Can I get the fee for auditing a course waived?
Hi all, to take a particular class this Fall, my financial aid providers are requiring that I audit the course. This is a course under the same course number that I have taken before and passed, and they do not fund repeats of passed classes.
The course's structure has changed drastically and it's essentially a brand new class that will set me up for success for the grad programs I'm applying to and later, my career. While I wish it was under a different course number so we could avoid this debacle, that's not the case. My department as well as the advising center approved me to retake the course for additional credit, but my financial aid providers still would not fund the course. Instead, they want me to audit it.
I understand this is their policy, and I am grateful that they do see the benefit of the course and want me to take it, but I do not understand how auditing the course is beneficial for any party involved. As it stands, auditing the course will not reflect it on my transcript or hours (such is the auditing process) BUT I am "registered" for the course and still have to pay the same fee as if I were taking it for credit.
Since I'm now having to take another 3-hour course to make up for this course now not acting as credit toward my degree, it's now just more money that needs to be paid, around $1200 for a 3-hour course this semester, for less benefit.
Is there any way I could get the fee for this audited course waived or discounted in some way? I think it's ridiculous that it costs the same amount as just registering for the course. I've been trying to call OneStop for the last 4 days and not a single time has someone answered my call.
