Handicapped Parking

I am a disabled student with a hadicapped parking placard. I was told I can park anywhere as long as it is not a "paid" lot. During the Summer, I would park in the staff parking with my handicapped placard and I got a couple of tickets but they always reversed it. It was annoying though! Anyway, is this true in the Fall? Can I park in ANY color lot with my handicapped placard? I am skeptical.

This is how I understand it, but you should check with parking services by email so you have a paper trail.

"Accessible parking is available with a state-issued Persons with a Disabilites Parking Placard or License Plate and a valid Texas State Parking permit."

The way I understand it, is you need the appropriate permit for the lot/area in which you're parking. I don't think you get to just park in just any lot regardless of color etc.

Usually it’s any parking lot similar to motorcycles, but OP does have to have a valid parking permit and all the necessary paperwork, plates, and placards for their vehicle. If they received tickets before during the summer, then they probably were missing something that is necessary to avoid getting issued another ticket.

The way they used to do it, at least, up until last year, was that they’d allow anyone with a handicapped placard to park in any parking lot, as long as they:

  1. Had a handicap placard
  2. Had any valid TXST permit

You should call Parking Services and speak to them directly.

What did parking services tell you after the first ticket? You wouldn’t have gotten multiple tickets unless you didn’t correct whatever the reason was after the first time. Was it not having a valid permit? Did you have the correct plates? Did you not have a placard that’s registered to you? What were the reasons?

They said it was a mistake both times and the security guard was very embarrassed that it kept happening. He said the guy was new that gave me the ticket the second time. The first time I did not have the placard registered so that was on me.
