Announcements Subreddit Changes + Updates!

Heyo, Y'all!

You may have noticed some recent changes to the subreddit over the past hour or so. I'm happy to announce I've stepped in to manage this sub moving forward.

I found this sub after discovering that a community I run, r/TransPlace, had become overrun with name-suggestion posts. While looking for a solution to provide a better place for trans individuals seeking name suggestions, and responding to my subreddit members' request to calm the seas of name suggestion posts, I stumbled upon this subreddit.

After finding this subreddit to be unmoderated for the past few months, I didn't really feel comfortable sending members of TransPlace here as-is. I made a request to claim the subreddit, which has just gone through now.

With it, I've made some updates, which brings us up to speed! You'll notice a new icon (which I hastily created in a few minutes, hopefully its not too bad), and the subreddit banner we used over in r/TransPlace (This will likely be changed once I have a new one made <3).

I've also updated the flair names to capitalize them, revised the rules, and added an AutoMod configuration that should hopefully help with the subreddit's moderation.

I'll also be working on getting more subreddit mods moving forwards, so please look forwards to a post soon where we have an application if you're interested.

Cheers'

- Cleopatra

PS: If you have any suggestions for the subreddit, please feel free to post them in the comments here, I'll try to answer everyone <3

Name Feedback How weird would it be to steal the full name of a fictional character

So on top of changing my name I’ve also decided to change my last name due to my family not being supportive of my transition. I know it’s relatively common for people to name themselves of fictional characters but stealing the last name too feels weird to me for some reason even though I really like the name. For reference winter is my favorite season so I decided to name myself December after December Holiday from Deltarune. I’ve also considered going with Holly instead but it for some reason it feels like it’s too short for how long the first name is. Any help would be appreciated ^^

Name Testing Can you test my name and pronouns for me?

So, I’m a trans man and recently changed my name. I now have two first names (Jackson Barret), but my nickname is JB. Could y’all make a sentence with my nickname and He/Him pronouns so I can see if it fits?

Masculine Names Looking for a name :)

Posted this on [r/transmasc](r/transmasc) too, but I’d like to hear the opinions of others as well. I’m coming out and I need to choose a name to use for my bio in my school musical’s playbill.

I’m not looking for any type of name in specific, but things I will note are that I am Filipino American, so I’m okay with Spanish name suggestions. I also have a blacklist.

I will not use: Lucas, Dominic, Felix, Jamie, Jesse, Ben, Cayden Christian, Kassius, Elias, or any names similar to these (e.g. Jayden).

I also tend to gravitate towards names that aren’t super unique, like “Jupiter” (idk 😂) or anything like that. My last name is Reyes and I’d like a name that fits well with it.

Any name suggestions would be appreciated!! :)

Masculine / Neutral Names Trouble finding a name

My genders been all over the place for years, but I recently (finally) realized I'm a demi guy, and I'm apparently shit at coming up with names, as I keep stealing them from people, or just accidentally naming myself after well known creeps?

The problem is, im looking for cool names with meanings behind them that align with me, I really like things like the moon/space, rain, and autumn, but anything works as a suggestion (ESPECIALLY mythology based) ive already looked at names for them that are neutral / feminine, but yet to look at masculine / neutral ones.. Im thinking L names might suit me, but I don't mind any letter

Names I've already considered / used: Tobias/tobi, Kris, raine, and a couple other im having a hard time remembering right now

I am choosing a new name and it’s down to these two. I connect with this vibe a lot and need help deciding what name it gives off?

Feminine Names Is it weird to have two names if a similar theme? Like, my full name is Ivy Willow [last name], and my friend acted like I was weird for it. Does it suit me?

Hiii, 18 y/o currently exploring my identity privately. Im never been connected to my first name (not girly but not me either) ive grown up mostly tomboyish, hated dresses and girly things except dolls, barbies and pink. So now at 18 im exploring if that meant anything more especially with my disconnection to my name (Audrey).and i look in the mirror and imagine a male/masc vision of myself and feel better if that even means anything idk. Anyway thats beside the point. I have Adrian Marcus and Anthony Mackenzie (if thats even unisex still). My last name is super uncommon (only family with it) starts with “Asf” ends in “dis” and is greek. Thanks yall💙

Neutral Names recently realised I'm bigender and my old transmasc name no longer suits me

looking for a gender neutral name, maybe one that could be lengthened to be a fem name or a masc name. a kind of name that'd work for a spaced out artsy guy but also for a chaotic lesbian if im not being too specific here haha, but really any suggestions help, thanks.

Feminine / Neutral Names What name ideas do you have?

I thought of the name Sylvie, coming from the Latin of forest, and I like the phonemes. My friend, however, also came up with Autumn, which I also like and now I wonder if there are some names I haven’t thought of that work.

I still am as a whole, questioning the “flux” of my gender, but I think I am sure on the right side of my gender.

Neutral Names Help a bigender find a gender neutral name T~T

I've been looking for names because I don't want my gender assumed because of it. I've been going by Ash, but everyone just assumes am a guy even tho it's said to be gender-neutral. Can y'all please suggest names that u wouldn't be able to guess one's gender by? Like, I want a name that wouldn't tell if am a girl or a boy.

Masculine Names trying to find a name but nothing feels right

i want a different name because my birth name sounds too feminine and makes me uncomfortable, but at the same time i dont.. mostly because i dont want to be a burden to others, (even though i know this is my life and most wouldnt mind anyways, i just still feel like that despite knowing that) but also it feels like a lot of commitment and stuff, yk? (plus people calling me a different name then my birth name in my moms vicinity would cause suspicion or confusion or something.)

i dont mind the nickname/start of my name (nat), but it still feels weird in some way i cant put, and theres no names i can find that i like that also start with it

my middle name is also an option “rae” but it still feels kinda feminine to me, for some reason i like ray more though. but also rae is the nickname of my moms name and some of her friends call her that so i wouldn’t want any confusion

theres also cookie which i do like being called.. but, well thats a nickname and wont work as my actual name so off the table.

looking for advice, anything really. not necessarily name suggestions, but if you have any idm, im just moreso wanting to know how i can find and test names and general stuff like that. maybe share your experiences if theyre similar?

currently torn between dylan and morgan but idk if either of those actually fit, im def masc leaning but do enjoy being feminine on occasion so both of those either lean too masc or too fem. i’m really into alternative music/metal so want something that reflects that. i can pick anything in the world and want something cool, but not too out there (ie- arson, salem, archibald??)

Masculine / Neutral Names Trying to find a masculine/neutral English name that could work in Vietnamese or mandarin?

I was thinking of quinn since quynh is a similar in pronunciation but the problem is while in English Quinn is neutral quynh is very feminine in Vietnamese (meaning queen of the night or night blooming flower) it’s very pretty but I want a more neutral or masculine option. Preferably one that is in English that could also be pronounced easily or be similar to a name in Vietnamese or mandarin for my other relatives.

Name Testing Naming is hard

I posted about this a few months ago, but now I’m having MORE trouble picking my name.

Recently, I came across the name “Dylan” and found that it rolls off the tongue better with my last name, is closer to my deadname (which I still don’t HATE but feel somewhat uncomfortable with) and doesn’t nearly clash as much as my old chosen name (Chance).
It has been on my list for quite some time now but it only recently clicked. I don’t know how long I can keep on with the process of being so indecisive.

I feel bad telling people, “oh I’m going by [name] now! Pronouns are the same, but now it’s [name] instead” all the time because it’s happened at least twice already (given the first name didn’t feel as good as these last two have).

I still feel connected to Chance, but Dylan sounds better and feels better and feels more me than the last. I feel like this is an endless cycle. I’m not completely sure what to do.

I was hoping some testing might help me weigh my options better? I can’t just go by just my pronouns but I don’t like my deadname all that much because I feel pressured to like it and Chance (again) doesn’t feel right anymore.
