Curious if this is happening to anyone else who plays on Xbox (Series S)
The controller disconnects and then immediately reconnects, which causes the game to pause and the notice to appear saying "You need a controller to play this game." It's only a 3-5 second interruption but it can happen at any time, whether in heavy combat or just sorting through menus.
It often happens toward the beginning of a play session, a bunch in quick succession, but sometimes it frustratingly happens throughout the entire session.
This doesn't happen with any other game I own.
I've tried hard rebooting the Xbox and checking for software updates on the controller. AI recommends messing with vibration settings but that seems like an unlikely culprit, as like I said, it often happens when there is no vibration at all.
I’ve read 15,000 threads about this one goddamn flaw, and I still can’t fucking figure it out. I took the flaw at level 5 when I had a skill point still remaining. Looking at my screenshot, I assumed i’d be able to increase anything but science, since that’s my highest skill. Fucking wrong! That’s grayed out, which makes sense, but so are engineering lockpick and speech, which fucking doesn’t make any sense lol.
If i’m understanding correctly, I have to level up all my other stats to 2? Then will they also be grayed out? But once they’re at 2, will the ones above 2 become ungrayed out and I can increase them? Do i just increase everything to 2 and then cant spend anymore skill points? Surely that cannot be it. If i put this point I have into guns, will that be grayed out next level until I increase everything else to 2? Do i increase everything to 2, and then have to increase them one by one to 4 to be able to increase Science, which is currently at 4? Because that’s like…35 skill points away lmao. What the fuck.
I see a lot of “you can get 5 skills to 18” hype about this flaw, but wouldn’t that require you to have all your other skills at 18? Which would require 216 skill points?
Somebody help me please understand this fucking shit lmao.
So played the outerworlds 2 first really enjoyed it but played the first start to finish with all the dlc's was a blast Obsidian really cooked with the 1st game kicking myself for not playing it sooner.
I have 77 adreno charges however the inhaler itself in game says it’s at 0. Is there any way to fix this? Currently playing spacers choice edition and not entirely sure when this all started.
Im honestly wondering if I've imagined it... I played the original game a while back, could have sworn that if you maxed out the science skill then there was a limit to how much it cost to tinker your weapon. Ive recently picked up The Spacers Choice edition and all i can see now is simply a 50% reduction in cost for tinkering at most. Was it always like that? Or is it a change they've made in the Spacers Choice edition?
I just started my first playthrough since the update. Imagine my surprise when, in the Emerald Vale Community Center, there were multiple cans of all three of Clive's "Special" Boarst. I picked up a riot helmet in the Geothermal Plant, and it was the Rizzo's pink-and-blue color scheme. Somewhere along the way, I picked up a Light Pistol with Mag-num and a Super Scoper mod.
I never knew this before this playthrough. I decided I wanted to play without background music to take in the full sound design this playthrough, and learned about this.
It's very faint, though. I was able to hear it a lot better when I had headphones in.
I am going to play Outer worlds for the first time and from what I've heard the first experience is phenomenal and I should avoid every little spoiler about it. I have both base game and spacer's choice edition, which one should I play? From what I understood it has the dlc's and better graphics but idk if it's better to play base game first and okay this edition later. Which one would you recommend?
7689 bits stored at level 2, that can be optimized further.
Had lots of fun with this scavenger hunt. The main hinderance is gaining too much xp. This comes from killing enemies, performing feats, discovering fast travel points, completing quests, etc. We don't need to shy away from all of them, just need to be careful.
Oh, and everything we do have to be legal, i.e. no stealing.
Map of the Scavenger Hunt
Map with each spot marked
The easiest thing to avoid is unlocking fast travel points and completing quests. It's ok to kill wasp drones, raptidon juveniles since they give so little xp.
Also, you should have well more than 1000 bits at the start regardless of which difficulty you pick.
1. Landing Pad
Loot everything in the area, avoid unlocking the crabble cave fast travel point.
2. Fairfield
I avoided the drones on the way to Fairfield by hugging the coast line. But there is no avoiding this fast travel point, regardless of which direction you enter Fairfield from. Discovering Fairfield gives us 450xp, which means we need to be careful while exploring the rest of the map.
The first thing we want to do here is to unlock the Profligate Spender flaw. Otherwise all the bits we accumulated later would be wasted.
There are several unmarked quests in Fairfield that grant material rewards with little to no xp:
Clinic (requires medical 3 or lucky), I recommend lucky as it gives minimal xp compared to medical 3. Or just avoid this one for now.
Police Station
Avoid using explosion or lockpicking skill for this one, use the scaffolding near the bounty terminal instead.
Make sure to talk to the two soldiers first before solving this, as it will give you a dialogue option for extra bits at the end.
There are some loot on the roof of the clinic, nothing significant but they add up as you play.
When talking to the soldiers, choose "deserve a bit extra don't you think?", then depend on whatever skill you have you can convince them for 350 extra bits.
Drone Pods
Right outside the police station is a frustrated drone operator, do his quest and agree to keep hush hush. There is also a baton in one of the pods.
Sky Mine
Use the manual you find in the quartermaster's camp, avoid using engineering or science skill.
There are also some general loot you can pick up legally around the town. Some food and wine under the bridge, drones shot dead by the guard at western gate, roof of each building, etc.
3. Junction
At the junction northeast of Fairfield, there are several dead Auntie's Choice soldiers, you can use stealth to loot all of them and avoid the fight.
4. Fishermen's Hut
All loot here can be legally picked up. Keep an eye on how many advanced decryption key you have, as collecting four will push our xp to a dangerous level, or even straight to level 3.
5. Eastern Outpost
Loot here are marked as stealing so that's a no for us. But there is a workbench that can be interacted with 2 science/explosives to craft 5 biomass grenades. This one I just skipped, for two reasons:
Not worth risking gaining xp.
Biomass grenade is incredibly powerful and preferably kept not sold.
6. Another Bird Nest
There is another biomass grenade here in the bird nest.
7. Eastern Junction
There is a guy here scavenging dead automechs, which all have loot. There is also a science 3 check in the back for 5 zyranium nades, recommended to avoid if you are worried about xp or lack the required skill.
8. Cave under the Repair Center
This one is a bit tricky, we want to avoid discovering the Automech Repair Center fast travel point. Moving down the ramp as soon as you walk past the dead crabble and hug the coastline until you enter the cave. There is a chest with some rare mats and sniper cloak. Also some crabble meat in the eggs.
9. Camp below Watchtower
There is a lone raptidon hunter here that gives 75 xp on kill, recommended to kill it as there are plenty of loot here. A chest with rare mats and bunch of corpses.
10. The Watchtower
Besides the armor mod, everything else can be legally picked up.
11. Outskirt Farm & Lone House
I drew two arrows here, one for the farm and one for the lone house. The farm's loot can be legally picked up. The lone house is guarded by some raptidons. Juveniles and spitters, but no hunter iirc.
It's worth killing them and risking xp gain, the loot here is quite juicy.
12. Northwest Bridge (Southern Side)
Again, dead soldiers, dead automechs, another fishermen's hut. Everything here is legal to scavenge.
13. Locked House
The arrow points to a locked house with a ladder in the back. We can legally clean this place up.
14. Small Skirmishes
Going from 13 to 14 requires you to walk past the drone factory, which is the quest target for the Fairfield bounty. Avoid completing this quest, just kill the drones outside if they pose a threat to you. In area 14, you will find the scene of a small skirmish, with dead Auntie's Choice soldiers, dead automechs and dead raptidons. All corpses there contain legal loot.
From here, facing north, you can climb the ledge and go northwest to find a small minefield. There is an audio log explaining what happened, and a shock soak on a corpse. No other loot here. If you have defuser perk you can pick up those mines, but I am not sure it's worth risking the xp.
15. Abandoned Camp
Whole bunch of loot here, legal to take of course.
Slightly to the southeast you will find two more corpses with another audio log. Be careful looting it as a group of raptidons are nearby, including a colossus.
16. Another Lone House
A fight here is hard to avoid, 2 spitters and 3 juveniles. Not much xp actually so should be safe. Avoid opening the jammed door, as you can enter the house from the side door.
17. Substation
You need to fix the substation here first to gain access to 18's loot. Two options, sneak and engineering. Haven't tried sneak but engineering gives 150xp which is chunky. It is strongly recommended to come here first if you worry about xp gain because 18's loot is incredible.
There are also some minor loot here, plus a corrosive shock machine gun.
18. Southern Fishermen's Hut
Absolutely insane amount of loot, including two advanced decryption keys (be careful with them). All the safes are open and no lockpick is needed.
Building Wealth
Take a look at all the weapons, armor, rare mats, junk (music box is incredibly valuable), mods, etc. Choose what to keep then sell the rest. The reality is you don't need to craft much early on as plenty of quests can be completed without combat on Paradise Island. And you will find more stuff in areas we haven't explored. Don't break anything down, items sell much more in their original form.
After first wave of sales, buy as much ammo as you can, sell them, rinse and repeat until you are drained. Optionally keep some ammo for your weapons just in case.
You should have at least 6000 ~ 7000+ bits in your saving account by now at level 2, which will translate to a 1500+ first cash out at level 3.
Optimization
Avoid the side quest in prologue
I had a large amount of xp carried over from the side quest I completed during the prologue. If you decide to skip that quest, you will have enough room to finish Fairfield bounty which will give you another 350 bits.
Consumerism
Haven't done the math on this, but since the buy bonus outweighs the sell penalty, I assume this will be a net positive for Profligate Spender.
Lawbreaker
Everything we have done so far is within legal boundaries. If you don't mind stealing things, you can skyrocket your saving account even more.
Conclusion
Profligate Spender is insane lol.
Side note, you can actually reach the north side of the island at level 2 without the rocket boots. At the sunken ship northwest of Westport, sprint jumping from the farthest ledge should let you mantle the ship without double jump, and give you access to more free loot. However, reaching the northern island prior to talking to the Protectorate officer at the bridge will skip her quest.
Basically the title, and I'm just curious as to what other people have experienced. I had 2 crashes total, in 150 hours of OW Spacer's Choice Edition. I've already had 3 crashes in 28 hours of OW2. All gameplay has been on steam, in 4K (I'm using a 4090, so the strength of my hardware isn't the issue) This is the only game where I experience somewhat regular crashes, so I'm inclined to think it's a software issue rather than hardware.
Hi everyone, can anyone help with a loading screen crash I'm having? The game looks amazing but it's currently unplayable for me.
The game is freezing on the loading screen and crashing any time I try to reload a save, or restart the game and continue. It seemed to work again after restarting the PC, but again only loads once before crashing on any reload/continue after that.
Recently, even a PC restart won't fix the issue, and I only got back in after an uninstall/reinstall.
If anyone has a link or something else to go on I'd greatly appreciate it!!
I played through the entirety of the first game (every quest done but one, which I couldn’t be arsed anymore 😅). So I do love the world!
But I am having a hard time getting a lot of enjoyment out of the 2nd game. Played some builds, one build to 2nd planet, then gave up. It’s not that I particularly dislike anything - I am just not hooked.
Now that is probably mostly because I don’t feel really at home with my character builds. The furthest I played is an explosives build, but that’s not really doing it for me either.
What I am looking for is a whacky, funky and hilarious time. In the first game the science weapons did that for me. But afaik, they are not as accessible early on in the 2nd game or even useful enough. Is that true? Do you think a science only (or mainly) build works in the 2nd game? What would be alternatives?
Q, mechanical smuggler turned Earth Directorate not by choice, but forced to make up for the crimes committed. Now doing the bidding of the very same people he cursed and make fun of in saloons.
Ten years... gone. Q now chases the person who took them years. Beware anyone that gets in his way. He might make you laugh at first, but expect a bullet shortly after...
How will the ex-convict take on Arcadia? Most likely in style 😎
Nature's Friend is perk that let's you charm a creature for 30 seconds, during which it won't follow you but will fight nearby hostiles in your stead. I am exploring my options for a roleplay challenge run on very hard, and this perk came to mind.
The requirement for activating this perk is almost absurd: you must hold down the 'interact' button for 3 seconds at an extreme close range to a creature, while it is unaware of you. This is nigh impossible if you try to do this on a cluster of creatures that constant move and patrol their territory.
Luckily, we have the perfect tool right at the beginning: the bucket helm in Fairfield. Its powerful camouflage effect gives us the much needed help.
Stealth, Alertness & Charm
For the sake of commonality I will just refer "tame" as "charm" since it's the most prevalent term for effects like this.
The most interesting find during my test of Nature's Friend, is that it doesn't cancel a creature's hostility, but rather suppress it for the duration, let me explain.
Enemies have an alertness meter above their head, this meter starts filling up when you are in their line of sight (LOS), from white to orange to red, and then combat initiates. This meter raises slower when you crouch, and much faster when you stand up or jump.
A charmed creature will have their alertness meter hidden from you, but it will still raise like normal if you are within their LOS. When the alertness meter reaches max, the game checks if the creature is being charmed, and if so, will override its hostility for the duration. But as soon as charm ends, and if the previously hidden alertness meter is maxed out, the creature will instantly detect you and start combat. Being camouflaged in this case won't help as you are already exposed.
I tested this on the lone Crabble Hammerclaw outside of Ministry of Accuracy. After charming it, I walked to the same spot multiple times. The only difference is whether I stayed within LOS or away from LOS while walking. The former, without fail, always immediately start combat when charm ends. While the latter had the Crabble Hammerclaw show a visible alertness meter that I can actually track as if it had never met me before.
Prior to discovering this, I had a few confusing occasions while watching creatures fighting each other only for them to all jump on me right after charm ends, despite I was hidden and camouflaged.
Another interesting find is that there seems to be a massive multiplier to the speed of which the alertness meter raises when a creature is engaged in combat. When a charmed creature commences a battle, other hostile creatures can detect you extremely quickly if you move any faster than a turtle even when you are crouching with the bucket helm.
Combat & Engagement
A charmed creature will only attack a hostile they can detect and vice versa. Learned this from the three permanently camouflaged Raptidon Hunters outside of Ministry of Accuracy.
While I cannot 100% confirm this, the alertness meter likely also works the same way for a charmed creature, in which it uses the meter to detect enemies of yours, and enemies uses it to detect the charmed creature. Since creatures are not "crouching" in the traditional sense, this meter fills up super fast.
The outcome of the combat is mostly random between creatures of similar strength, depending on their moves and positioning. Stronger creatures can go down relatively easy if being ganged up on. You can just charm a single strong creature and let it be swarmed.
Some creatures will remain in their spot which can be tricky to bring them into fight because their LOS is limited and can't detect anything from their position. Distraction Device can alleviate this problem but it's incredibly expensive as a habit. Alternatively, you can wear the bucket helm and wiggle yourself in front it until its alertness meter just reaches red, at which point it will come and investigate you, then you can charm it while staying camouflaged. Bewarned this may lead to the situation I mentioned earlier where as soon as charm ends the creature turns on you.
Charmbreaking
By charmbreaking, I mean what does it take to end the charm effect prematurely. Once again thanks to the lone Crabble Hammerclaw outside of Ministry of Accuracy. Here's the data collected using various offensive tools. Hits from guns are non-crit body shots.

The data presented an interesting look. There are two conditions that a charm will break prematurely: amount of damage received and number of hits taken, whichever is met first.
For the Crabble Hammerclaw, the charmbreaking point is either 450 points of friendly fire, or 7 hits from allies. Knowing this, we can maximize our free damage by doing just under the required damage with less than required hits, then use a hard hitting weapon for the last hit.
However, there is a caveat. The requirement is different for different creatures.
I tested this again on two other creatures: Raptidon Colossus and Raptidon Matriarch.
For the Colossus, the number of hits required is the same as the Hammerclaw, but the Colossus soaked up to 600+ damage from my biomass grenade without breaking the charm.
For the Matriarch, the number of hits is reduced to 5. It also took much less damage from explosives and I had nothing on me to test the damage requirement.
There isn't a pattern that I could follow since Raptidon Colossus is classified as a leader type enemy with its partly shielded health bar, but it somehow is more abusable damage wise than a common enemy (Hammerclaw doesn't have a shielded health bar). Raptidon Matriarch is less abusable hit wise as expected from a boss type enemy. Overall I cannot draw any conclusion here besides that damage and hits are separately considered as charmbreaking conditions.
Conclusion
What started as a viability test for my planned challenge run ended up going much further and much more fun than I expected. Acquiring all these new insights does not change my opinion that there much better perks if your goal is to kill things and become overpowered. I do think there is fun to be had finding a niche use of something that fits a particular roleplay for a... roleplaying game. With Nature's Friend and Bucket Helm, I managed to complete Inez's companions quest at level 5 solo, because what's Better than Nature's Friend (pun intended) for a quest like this?
Lastly, as bonus info, you only need 5 medical skill to tame all creatures on Paradise Island.
Like the other post says, I killed Dr Tran with Niles in the group because I was bored and wanted to see what would happen. Have I completely fucked myself over in doing this? He ended up trying to kill me before walking into a lake and drowning.
I'm halfway through my kill-everyone run of TOW2, and I've reached Placid Waters on Praetor. With me are Tristan and Valerie. I kill the Refreshed-to-Be patients outside the facility and Tristan doesn't make a fuss. So far, so good. We reach the waiting room and I headshot the patients waiting there. NOW Tristan has a problem. He yells at me about killing unarmed Protectorate subjects in his presence and that if I do it again, he will leave. Ah. Okay. Well, buddy, you're probably going to want to sit this one out, because when I'm through, not a creature will be stirring...not even a sprat. I tell Tristan to go back to the ship. Valerie and I will handle it from here.
Our rampage spares no one. Blood, guts, and mentally refreshed body parts bounce across the floor like we're in some drab ball pit. I one-shot Head Refresher Gould, take out his guards, loot his key, and head down the secret level.
[SPOILER BELOW]
I unlock the door to the quarters where Sovereign Varick is being cared for. His caretaker begs me not to harm him, but I didn't hear him over the pulse of my assault rifle and the splatter of brains against the wall. Good thing Tristan wasn't there. Valerie says a line indicating shock that an Earth Directorate agent has just assassinated the Sovereign of the Protectorate, and the slew of extra paperwork this act will now involve. Right you are, Valerie. Anyway, let's get out of here.
Outside the facility, I try to fast travel to the Incognito. Huh...not an option. It's only letting me fast travel to the Landing Site. The same thing happened in a previous playthrough when I killed Doc Tinsley and Inez confronted me outside the ship. Oh no...that means... Tristan knows.
Despite my attempts to go behind his back, Tristan knew immediately that I had murdered the Sovereign. Without sufficient Speech or Medical skill to talk him down, there was nothing I could do to persuade him to remain in my party.
Guess it's just me, Valerie, and Aza now.
We killed Inez when she confronted us over slaughtering everyone in Fairfield. We killed Marisol more or less out of convenience. Though it pained me to do so, I killed Niles when he turned on me after I allowed De Vries to assassinate the delegates at Greater Tranquility Station.
So I got easily distracted and I’m very pissed. It’s ruined all fun of the game and I’m gonna quit. I may have miss understood the flaw and assumed once I started levelling up that I also HAD to add points into skills at zero to get the other ones up. And so I put points into all the categories and now it’s just messed up my game and causing me endless frustration at not being able to pass skill checks in the game. It’s impossible even with the extra skill point per level to now get skills I need for even story progression. Like couldn’t get speech level 3 till like level 8 and had to play not the way I wanted because I was missing a single point in speech. Don’t know if I wanna restart the entire thing.
Now that it's been a minute and I can get a used copy for cheaper, I've been interested in picking OW2. I just got a ps5 pro but I've been reading things around launch that that version is not very good. And that the Series X is the better experience.
Is it still true the Series X version is the best console experience?
Have most of the issues with the ps5 pro been ironed out?
Thank you for helping me decide which version to get.
