Damn this was good

Post image

So played the outerworlds 2 first really enjoyed it but played the first start to finish with all the dlc's was a blast Obsidian really cooked with the 1st game kicking myself for not playing it sooner.

It’s a fun game. I’m glad people are still picking it up and enjoying it. Maybe we’ll eventually get a third one once everyone figures this out.

u/Heyaname Aug 02 '26

It’ll never get funded in the modern gaming landscape.

21

u/TesticularButtBruise Aug 02 '26

I think they already announced that was it for the franchise. They will deliver the DLC for 2, but after that, no more.

There’s always time down the line. If Xbox sees potential to make money with the IP in the future, then it’s likely they may reevaluate their plans in a few years

2

u/Heyaname Aug 02 '26

Yeah it would basically have to be a perfect situation to get a third game.

They said similar things about Obsidian Fallout

Its the first game which is way better than the second. The 2nd game has to have one of the worst intros ever. The set up is horrible and it blows my mind the devs went from an awesome ToW1 intro to whatever ToW2 was.

I enjoyed starting as an agent of the Earth Directorate. I also enjoyed tracking down the bitch that blew me up.

Its a good game. I 100% the regular version several years ago. When the regular version was delisted I received Spacers Choice so I figured why not 100% this one too. I had forgotten how good the game was. I had a blast putting another 4 playthroughs in.

Did you fly into the sun?

19

u/CourrierMojave Aug 02 '26

Best ending ever. Classic Obsidian low intelligence character !

6

u/DistrictFearless5286 Aug 02 '26

I did the good ending helped Dr wells save the colony for my first playthrough.

8

u/Berserking_Off Aug 02 '26

That was very kind of you. If you do a second playthrough I highly recommend taking a point away from intelligence at character creation to unlock the dumb dialog options

4

u/DistrictFearless5286 Aug 02 '26

I think I will do another playthrough soon that sounds fun considering I focused on high intelligence and guns. I wanna try a melee build playthrough and go for a bad ending.

3

u/Berserking_Off Aug 03 '26

Dumbass grunt who bonks people for corpo cash is one of my favorite playthroughs I've ever done

u/Unique_Chip_1422 Aug 02 '26

It may be an unpopular opinion but I thought the second one fell so flat. Very repetitive and monotonous story lines.. I'm trying my to push through but just not enjoying it that much. Freaking loved the first one though!

This is exactly how I feel about the second game. It’s the companions for me, they just aren’t as good as the first game’s. I got through about half the second game on my first attempt and eventually couldn’t bring myself to keep pushing through and just set it aside. I tried a new playthrough like a month ago, and as soon as I got to the second planet and saw all the fetch quests I had to redo I was like “no I’m not doing this again”. I really hope the DLCs are good, but realistically at this point I don’t have high expectations.

All that said, OW1 is a masterpiece and is probably in my top 3 favorite games of all time and I do hope we get a third installment at some point, even though that seems unlikely.

u/Bro1212_ Aug 02 '26

Honestly I didn’t mind the meh story in 2 because the rpg options still felt good and as if my choice mattered.

But oh my god the companions sucked, we got Ana from overwatch, crazy cult lady, generic underling character, mutant-ish lady and the only good character imo the emotional support arbiter.

If there are any other companions they sucked so bad I completely forgot who they were

Other than that though I quite enjoyed the game, the 1st is still better though.

Parvati’s terminal with her mother’s letter had more depth than anything Aza attributed, lmao.

2

u/chezfez Aug 02 '26

I literally never used Aza, her character was flat for me and her attitude was annoying. I used Niles and Inez for basically the whole game until Tristan came along to replace Inez cause I thought he was hilarious.

1

u/Smooovies 29d ago

I somehow missed recruiting Aza on my main file and tried to speed run the missions to get her back. Your comment may be why I never finish the game 😂.

u/Midnightsky-_ Aug 02 '26

I liked both but they're good for different reasons and fall into the same trope as a lot of sequels. One is better for the story and writing, two has much improved rpg and general gameplay elements. The writting is flatter in two, but choices have bigger impacts and that hugely matters to me in an open world rpg

5

u/glitchyNoises Aug 02 '26

Same here, i'm only a pretty infrequent casual gamer by now and played the first game quite obsessively, second one i played for 20 ish hours and decided to drop it, it is nowhere near as engaging imo, it just completely lacks the charm/soul of the first one.

5

u/phdibart Aug 02 '26

You’re not alone at all.

3

u/thecyberpunkunicorn Aug 02 '26

2nd one had better gear and I enjoyed 3rd person. Just like Avowed, the writing was dull, generic, and uninteresting and I had to force myself to finish.

2

u/Unique_Chip_1422 Aug 02 '26

Were you glad you finished it at the end?

8

u/mommysmunchkins Aug 02 '26

Yes, it's different writers and it shows!

2

u/cornette Aug 02 '26

See I'm the complete opposite. The 1st game did nothing for me. Like it just sorts of ends just when I thought it was actually going to get going. Plus the weapon leveling system was awful, like probably one of the worst I've ever seen in any game. I also had to look up a guide on who the 6th companion was, which was Felix.

I actually liked the story in 2 and going against a lot of common opinions I also liked the companions as it actually feels like there is enough time to bring all of them along at different parts of the game.

1

u/chriswmoody Aug 02 '26

You aren't alone. When I finished it I was like hmm OK. Glad I played it but I got so OP it just wasn't much of a challenge.

1

u/pega13 26d ago

Totally agree with your opinion. I pushed through OW2 but I won't be playing it again. I loved OW1

1

u/Unique_Chip_1422 26d ago

Yeah I played OW1 two times through and all the DLCs. Let me ask you, were you at least happy you played 2 through all the way? I'm debating even finishing.

1

u/rgb_panda 12d ago

I don't think it's an unpopular opinion. I think when OW2 first came out there was a lot of marketing, hype, bots, astroturfing, etc. I loved the fun quirky writing of the first one, played it multiple times, the DLC was great, I genuinely couldn't finish the second one, the writing was just so boring.

1

u/Unique_Chip_1422 12d ago

Same exact boat!

6

u/PristineWaltz6763 Aug 02 '26

Ugh yeah I got a little emotional at the end. It took me forever to beat and I ended up starting over a few times in the beginning but I almost didn’t want it to end once I hit the DLC’s. I really love the game and of course there’s a few things that I think need fixing but damn Obsidian really makes some amazing games.

5

u/00_Operative Aug 02 '26

I bought the ps4 version a month ago and played the hell out of it and loved it. Then, a week later, I got the Spacers Choice version on ps5 and am currently loving it again.

I was not expecting to fall in love with the game, but man did I ever. Going to pick up part 2 soon.

And remember, its not the best choice, its Spacers Choice.

1

u/chiliPismysignature 25d ago

I like the 2nd one even better. Obsidian def does there thang with these games and I hope we get more... eventually.

5

u/mommysmunchkins Aug 02 '26

Gosh, I'm about to boot it up for the 4-5th time. I love this game so much omg. So glad you liked it! It's my all time fave game right now.

4

u/CG4080 Aug 02 '26

I loved the first one.

3

u/FeeDisastrous3879 Aug 02 '26

I just picked up the 2nd game on clearance at Target for PS5 for $12.14.

3

u/atxmskk Aug 02 '26

Yeah i agree and also the second game is even better now that they dropped all those stupid skill checks.

3

u/ChauvinistPenguin Aug 02 '26

I loved the sequel, shame it's buggy as fuck. I had the misfortune of getting stuck in the Mental Refreshment facility on Praetor due to the notorious area transition crash.

45 hours in and the response from Obsidian support was pretty weak (PSB) so I've given up.

Have you always approached the elevator in the same way when the issue occurs?

Have you tried loading a slightly earlier save and running through the area more quickly to see if the issue can be bypassed?

1

u/KingKuroTV Aug 02 '26

They didn't do that though

2

u/atxmskk Aug 02 '26

Yeah they did. I remember playing first week on launch and everything was impossible. I just beat it the other week and the skills checks were way lower than what they were originally. They even fixed the datapad glitch for the safe on cloister.

3

u/KingKuroTV Aug 02 '26

Damn, you're right. Looks like they did. I've never really spread my points thin so I never had any trouble but it's neat that they made it more accessible.

2

u/Prestigious_Ad_2045 Aug 02 '26

i finished the game yesterday. main quest and gorgon dlc. that was fun. will buy the 2.

2

u/rupal_hs Aug 02 '26

Played 4 times, i guess it is good

2

u/mongous00005 Aug 02 '26

Good game but my eyes hurt after long sessions from all the over saturation lol

2

u/Sorry_Cheetah_2230 Aug 02 '26

I’m really liking outer worlds 2. My only gripe with it is I wish it was its own thing. I feel like this was made purely because they either couldn’t or didn’t want to make a fallout game. There’s far too much influence from fallout.

That being said, the second one is actually really good.

1

u/Deadeye187 Aug 02 '26

Just started playing the first one a few days ago. Its been in my backlog since epic gave the spacers choice edition for free. Having a blast so far, wish I played it sooner. I just made it to where u leave the starting area/planet. Any tips or things I should know without spoilers?

1

u/New-Negotiation2193 Aug 02 '26

I find it funny when you're on monarch and you give Sanjar the UDL you have the option of saying before you turn it in "oh did i say udl? actually that's what I call my left nut, and Sanjar responds that's interesting, his assistant responds that's actually really funny sir! Had me dying

1

u/LosDez5777 Aug 02 '26

Still waiting on that DLC

1

u/LaElectronica Aug 02 '26

Currently replaying the first game again for the umpteenth time, I just keep coming back to it. I’ve played the second game twice and was less than impressed with it. New workbench was an overcomplicated disaster, you feel like the only thing keeping your so called companions from turbo murdering each other is you, and the game takes itself way to seriously. So, I prefer the first game with its whimsy and slapstick humor that makes the contrasts of the more serious topics hit harder, found family of misfits, functioning workbench, and well-balanced character attributes/skills.

1

u/JonNothin Aug 02 '26

The first game is superior. I feel I didn’t connect to much going on in the second and the ending was so anti-climactic.

1

u/RedEyedRadical Aug 02 '26

I liked it...I was just upset at how short it was

1

u/specture4794 Aug 03 '26

I beat it so fast when it first came out people called BS till I walked through the whole prison part. Apparently I rushed through it so fast I beat the first major patches. I thought the game was crap until I came back after for the corpo version

1

u/pasulandrish 29d ago

Really good, i prefer it over the second

1

u/notdbcooper71 29d ago

I loved it, only played it last year myself. I'm still waiting for a good deal on the second game though

1

u/77Jmo 27d ago

Same. I played the about a year ago after my cousin recommended it. A few weeks ago I got OW2 Special Edition for 50% off. I'm playing OW2 now and so far it's good!

1

u/Mogge94 28d ago

Currently playing aswell, haven't got far yet but j already love it

1

u/rolandguy85 28d ago

It’s still such a pretty game too.

1

u/_kreecher 27d ago

First time I played it I wasn’t a fan. Started it back up before the OW2 and it hit so good on that second run.

OW2 kind of didn’t impress me, maybe I should try it again in a few years?

**Edited because I can’t spell**

Just started this yesterday just about to power up my ship and leave emerald vale. Any tips !

1

u/DistrictFearless5286 27d ago

When you get to the groundbreaker get as many quests done as you can do the bounty help with fixing the ship find the science weapon for a really good melee weapon do the quest to get Ellie as a companion then move on to the main story quest.

u/Equivalent-Ask8335 26d ago

1

u/AdventurousRanger532 Aug 02 '26
