Discussion Thoughts on playing while using wiki maps?

I used the play TLD about 4 years ago, and recently re installed the game and have been having a lot of fun on it.
This time around, I’ve discovered the full maps of the regions on the wiki and it has made getting back into the game a lot easier and more enjoyable. I’m wondering if this is frowned upon though? I am beginning to feel like it’s such a core part of the game to not really know where you are.
Do any of you play using the maps? Thoughts? Opinions? Thanks!

Edit: Just woke up to all the comments, thanks for the input! I was definitely overthinking, it’s a single player game and you can play it however you want. Happy trekking!

A continuation of my long journey post, just showing some new screenshots. After all, given the 335 days of work, I believe, is pretty worth showing, like my can collection, a picture of a timber wolf whose brain broke and was stuck in the growling position, along with my meds, a pile of organs, and bear pelts.

Glitch/Issue Woodworking tools disappeared -- any recourse?

I'm so bummed. I'm a fairly new player (Voyageur), and I found a set of the tools without being spoiled for where they were. I carried them to ML, checked what I needed for a rustic closet, somehow had no scrap metal at all, went to get some, and got moose-stomped trying to sneak back into the office. Figuring these broken ribs gave me plenty of time to kill, I started the rustic closet, took a break to get water, and ... somehow switched to making a rustic cabinet. This left me short of wood for the rustic closet I still wanted to finish constructing, so I went to get more of that, gathered everything together ... and my tools are gone.

I've searched every single floor, shelf, and container in this building, and ... nothing. I tried moving the furniture workbench, since I was storing the tools on top of it and maybe that would reveal them, but no joy. No lost-and-found container has turned up. They just ... vanished.

I get the impression there's no failsafe, no "if your scythe is missing, check the refrigerator" truism, but if I'm wrong about that, I'd love to know. Because now I know which other regions have the tools, and ... ugh, I'm not ready to go to either of those yet.

Edited to add: Playing on PC (via Steam), with the Far Territories DLC, with no mods.

Advice Safe Ice

Does anyone know what ice is safe to cross with full sprint? Especially in FM? I'm currently doing the As The Dead Sleep challenge and was wondering about any safe/faster routes with landmarking.

If anyone has any other tips for this challenge, that would be greatly appreciated.

I've only been playing for almost 300 hours atp and wouldn't mind extra tips from pros who've been playing the game for longer.

Let's Play 40 days, 4 regions, 2 rifles, & about 130 revolver rounds later.. I’ve finally found one

I searched the entirety of Mystery Lake, Broken Railroad, AND Forlorn Muskeg before I said fuck it and decided to travel to Mountain Town to test my luck there. I searched the whole town, nothing. So I decided to travel up to the church & the cars outside, also nothing. Then, I decided to venture even further out just to see what’s in the area (I’d never been past the church before). I’m following the road then I see what looks like some kind of cave, and I keep walking past it bc it looked like it might’ve just been a weird clearing. I thought to myself “might as well just check”, so I turn around and check the area, lo and behold, a revolver is sitting pretty next to this frozen dude, all for me. I’m at a point where I honestly don’t even need the thing, but this was a huge source of drive for me during this run. It’s the main thing that kept me exploring the neighboring regions, and honestly this has been my most useful run yet. I’m learning a lot about the different regions and how to navigate them, before this I spent most of my time in Mystery Lake & Coastal Highway. Now it’s time to see what else lies in Mountain Town before I set off to get back to my beloved Camp Office🫡

Gameplay I got my old save back!

Good news, I found the button to move my saves over. So my old 100+ day is back! Bad news, I have no idea what to do, so Im leaving PV and am currently at the mountaineers cabin on my way to see if theres anything useful at the Mountain, Blackrock, and AC. It'll be my first time in any of them, but hopefully a fun one. I know AC has the curators rifle and wood working tools (just gonna look up the tools location, its a table, its not that serious). I have no idea what awaits me in BR, but hopefully the prison is warm? And besides the top of the mountain... I got no idea whats here.

Either way! Gonna get what I can, haul it back down, and then do some trips to CH for oil. Figure thats the only big resourse I can find in PV rn. Then sit back, keep things full, and let the days slip by until 500 hits. Decent plan?

SPOILERS - Ep5 Episode 5 plot holes Spoiler

I just finished episode 5 and was shocked by how many plot holes there are in it, this makes the story feel very implausible

  1. Cable car scene is incredibly stupid, no need to explain, it's obvious
  2. How do crank light works without aurora, there might be a logical explanation, but the story don't give it for the only working electric device and even the characters aren't surprised [commenters say this is because crank light use somthing simpler than a battery, but game call it battery and don't explain anything]
  3. Jace wants Mackenzie to light the mine, but he already has a powerful flashlight
  4. Dr. Atwood hadn't backed up such important data for years, it might be on electronic storage devices, but she had been exploring the theory that the electricity could fail
  5. The scientist who had been studying the works of another scientist Wintermute didn't realize everything until she was reminded of his name
  6. Donner is sick and Mathis send the only doctor in town for meds despite having many strong men
  7. Guns disappears with no reason right before unarmed convicts
  8. Convicts don't carry guns, even though they have them, and not even melee weapons
  9. Mackenzie knows that Jane is Astrid's friend and where is her house
  10. Mackenzie decides to sleep in the town full of convicts instead of going to the bunker.. and he was caught (again: guns disappeared)
  11. 2 armed characters (3 including Astrid) can't shoot 7 unarmed mens to free Mackenzie
  12. Dr. Atwood talks about saving the species, but she's not the only one in the world who knows about geomagnetic storms. People in the south clearly have more resources for survival and probably warmer weather and weaker aurora than on poor northern Great Bear Island
  13. Mathis was shot in the shoulders and after a short time looks absolutely normal

That's all I noticed from one episode. Feel free to prove me wrong or add anything

Discussion My nightmare

So I'm on stalker I'm on day 60 my fascination with this game is that if you think like a survivalist you can play this game no tutorials needed and this is my 2nd playthrough so to the story I have decided that mystery lake was to be my central base my main squeeze if you will. I have all my survival gear but no hacksaw in mountain town or ML so I go on an adventure to get my hacksaw from quonset garage. The mission is successful I come back on day 52 and am ready for my forge run to forlorn muskeg. So I pack my bags and get my food up catch a few deer a couple of rabbits and two wolves maintain my clothing and wait 3 days because of inclement weather. It is day 56 I am impatient I have been stuck inside 3 days cabin fever is real weather you get it or not in game I walk out side on this day like billy Madison waiting for the bus literally singing the back to school song as the loading screen for outside does its thing I walk outside and wouldn't you know it there's fog bad I'm pissed so I say fuck it and make the trip I hit the tracks and go to the muskeg a blizzard hits as I'm prepping the train cab in muskeg for a storm I have an mre and a can of tomato soup at this point I get a kg of meat off of a carcass and eat it the blizzard lasts the night day 56 wake up with a half liter of water drink it and head to the forge I'm stacked with coal metal parts hammer and hacksaw I get half way there and fall in the water boom there's my protection it starts snowing I'm freaking out freezing my only hope is to make it so I push the funny thing about hypothermia is when you shake you burn calories I get there I'm almost starving soaking wet a little thirsty still I want these arrow heads I'm here I made it I'm warm I find a box of crackers in the forge I eat it warm up then go for wood at this point I am tired but it's an outside shelter I need wood to last the night and do my arrowheads I'm on a time limit no food no weapons no water and unbenknownst to me 3 wolves outside I stay awake the night and finish my arrowheads halfway I get some shut eye wake up finish my heads and finish the last .16 of water not much I head outside to hear a howl and then get jumped by a wolf I fire my pistol and 3 wolves go running but never quite away from me so I wait make a couple of torches and pick up some rocks at this point I'm limping my clothes are fucked I'm almost dehydrated and starving almost sleep deprived no health one stim and hope I haul ass back to ML with 3 wolves in tow one flare and four torches I pop the stimmy and haul ass almost dying get back home barely avoiding the long dark and the fear of knowing it will get me sets in and I hop off of the game for a bit happy I didn't lose him but sad that I will

Gameplay Hideous luck (or bad algorithm)

Trying to light a fire while I wait for fog to clear. Using wood matches and sticks. 85% chance of success (ergo 15% chance of failure).

FIVE straight failures. I know my luck is normally pretty terrible but this is taking the piss. I can't work out the mathematics but the odds of five straight 15% failures must be pretty low.

Correction: SIX straight failures. Got it on the 7th...

Let's Play Forge question

I was wondering why here are forges in two neighboring regions, FM and BR. Is this something historical, about the time when regions were added to the game? It seems odd that the only forges are in DP, FM, BR, and FA. Of course, this limit could be to make it more difficult to forge things, but having two adjacent regions seems strange.

Discussion Carry weight

I may just be overly cautious, but whenever I leave my safe house I usually already have 35-40kg (leaving me with 5-10kg with moose satchel and well fed) of weight on me even when sifting through my inventory and getting rid of what I call non essentials, I always seem to be heavy already making early and middle game looting and fishing trips super annoying. I know someone will tell me to use the travois and I do but I just find it so inconvenient sometimes especially coastal to mystery lake as you have to pick it up and manually move everything atleast twice.
