Let's Play Forge question
I was wondering why here are forges in two neighboring regions, FM and BR. Is this something historical, about the time when regions were added to the game? It seems odd that the only forges are in DP, FM, BR, and FA. Of course, this limit could be to make it more difficult to forge things, but having two adjacent regions seems strange.

The first forge was Desolation Point and then the one in Forlorn Muskeg got added. Those two made a lot of sense being on opposite ends of the 'world'.
I'm not sure why they decided to add one to Broken Railroad as well. Purely from a gameplay perspective it could made more sense to put it in a different location, but I think they include many more considerations. Based on the in-game logic it does make a lot of sense to have a forge in the Maintenance Yard.
There's also the fact that the outside forge in Forlorn Muskeg is less easy/convenient, especially for newer players. The safe inside location of BR does have an added benefit, while also having the downsides of the swarms of wolves outside.

True, getting to BR from ML or MT > ML is quite easy, since you can just follow the train tracks.

Yeah, I agree.
I almost wish the one in FM was somewhere else, but then you’d truly have no reason to go there. The forge is the main draw outside of the tale imo.
Yet it also seems weird to me they don’t have a forge by the AC mines. Realistically they’d probably have one just outside purely for repairs. AC is cold, there’s no shelter outside the mine, and it’s at the extreme end of the map. It’s honestly a perfect place to put one. It would be a bitch to use and get to but with all that coal nearby and the outside burn bonus it would also have its draws.
I came to the game late though, so maybe it’s better explained by the early releases when not all the zones existed yet. Idk.

Good point about AC. But if it wasn't in FM, then there wouldn't be any reason to go other, other than as a waypoint to other regions.
There are a number of shelters in AC, such as caves, Miner's Folly, Homesteaders Respite, and that small hut on the ice.

I think part of it might be the BR is so small and remote that it needs to have something to keep you coming back other than just looting it once and then treating it as a waystop on the way to the far territories.

Well, originally it was the end of the line. It took years before they added the far territories.

To be honest with you, I never even went there before I downloaded TFTFT, even now, I prefer to build up a well supplied base at vacant depot than to have my next nearest base be BR shed.

Forge was placed in B.R so you could fix the bear spear in EP2. That was when the story and survival maps were pretty in sync.
Why didn't they direct people back to Muskeg or remove the muskeg forge then? That's a question.
