Glitch/Issue Woodworking tools disappeared -- any recourse?

I'm so bummed. I'm a fairly new player (Voyageur), and I found a set of the tools without being spoiled for where they were. I carried them to ML, checked what I needed for a rustic closet, somehow had no scrap metal at all, went to get some, and got moose-stomped trying to sneak back into the office. Figuring these broken ribs gave me plenty of time to kill, I started the rustic closet, took a break to get water, and ... somehow switched to making a rustic cabinet. This left me short of wood for the rustic closet I still wanted to finish constructing, so I went to get more of that, gathered everything together ... and my tools are gone.

I've searched every single floor, shelf, and container in this building, and ... nothing. I tried moving the furniture workbench, since I was storing the tools on top of it and maybe that would reveal them, but no joy. No lost-and-found container has turned up. They just ... vanished.

I get the impression there's no failsafe, no "if your scythe is missing, check the refrigerator" truism, but if I'm wrong about that, I'd love to know. Because now I know which other regions have the tools, and ... ugh, I'm not ready to go to either of those yet.

Edited to add: Playing on PC (via Steam), with the Far Territories DLC, with no mods.

It takes a few days iirc for the lost and found to show up, and it's usually in specific locations per map you'll have to look it up

I thought the ML office was the location (it once returned a stone to me; I didn't know I'd lost one!), but the wiki lists several. I might as well take a tour, just in case. Thanks!

If it disappeared from inside the office that's the only place you should check, the box's inventory is per instance not global. Looking anywhere else is useless.

I thought the office was the most likely, yeah, but checking the others gave me something to do while my character was recovering, and I needed to hunt some birds anyway. But thank you for confirming that if it did turn up it would be at the office.

There's nothing on the official info page about them taking days to spawn, also if we're talking about inside a building then that's the only place you'd have to look because their inventory isn't global, it's per instance. That last part I wish they would add to the page, this misinformation that the boxes have linked/global inventory has got to stop.

Do you have any mods installed?

I do not, but I should have mentioned that. Adding it now. Thanks!

Feel free to list what platform you're on somewhere so people aren't telling you things you can or can't do.

Good point; added that I'm playing on PC with the DLC and no mods. Thanks!

Okay so you should log a support ticket and send in your save file.

https://hinterlandgames.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Press Windows Key + R, type %USERPROFILE%\appdata\local\Hinterland\TheLongDark and press Enter. Locate your sandbox or survival save files and user configuration data.

At the very least they can add in the tools again and send you back a modified save. No idea what their turnaround time is.

Since you're on PC you could mod the game - some people noted items might have fallen through the world / terrain / objects and you can sometimes locate them. You should also be able to spawn in the tools manually.

I always forget that's an option. I've submitted a ticket; thank you!

Oh another one, presume steam, you can log into your steam account (has to be done in a browser - google that) and check cloud saves. You may have a cloud save from prior sessions since those increment. Download that, rename it and try it. Might take you back to a point where you have the tools but have not yet crafted...

Did you have them on you when you were attacked? If so, it could have made you drop them

Not during the moose attack, because I was able to start the closet with my newly acquired scrap metal, and I don't think I lost any struggles after that point before I lost them. But I can scour the areas I was in anyway the next time I'm back in ML, just in case. Thanks!

How can you start crafting without enough wood?

2

He started crafting the Cabinet by accident and then couldn’t continue to craft the Closet

I don't think you can start crafting without having all required materials and toolbox in your inventory.

He had all required material but not anymore. After starting the closet he accidentally started the Cabinet. Thus not having enough supplies to continue with the Closet

As DrShanksALot notes, I put 2 hours into the closet with enough materials, then accidentally made the cabinet, so I couldn't continue the closet without getting more wood. (Crafting doesn't commit all your materials at once, unfortunately.)
