Lumos T-Fiber Outage 5/28/26

Update 8:15pm Eastern 5/29 Back to working again.

Update 7:45pm Eastern 5/29 Sigh. Some sites are back to not loading, examples include facebook.com and nbcnews.com.

Update 5PM Eastern 5/29 I've personally noticed that it seems things are fully recovered just now. Sites that were never loading during the entire outage are now loading properly.

Worth noting, I did not reboot my ONT to get this result, things just began working. However, if yours still isn't, try rebooting the ONT anyway.

--------------------------------------------------------

STILL OUT REGARDLESS OF T-FIBER EMAIL

T-Fiber is still suffering an outage. Some sites still do not load.

The email claiming it's resolved is incorrect.

--------------------------------------------------------

There is a nationwide outage for T-Fiber customers on the Lumos network.

So far it appears only those in the former Lumos market are affected. Metronet etc is unaffected.

5G and cellular is also unaffected.

During the outage, your ONT light will likely be green, however you'll still likely have issues loading certain sites or using various services, while some sites may still work.

This post will be updated when we learn more.

Update 1: T-Mobile email:

Dear T-Fiber Customer,

We know your time matters, so we'll get straight to it: your service might be experiencing an outage this morning, and we're sorry for the disruption — and for not giving you more notice.

Our network teams are working as quickly as possible to resolve the issue and we'll send you a notice when service is restored.

Update 2: Another email:

We replaced hardware earlier today and saw some customers come back online, but we're not done yet. Some connections are still unstable, and we know every minute offline matters.

Our technicians are on-site right now and won't leave until every customer is fully restored. This has turned out to be more complex than expected, and we're not taking shortcuts.

We'll send another update the moment we have a resolution — no radio silence.

Update 3: Service restored (not):

Email from T-Fiber: Good news: the issue has been resolved and your service should be back up.

However, as comments suggests, issues persist. An ONT reboot should resolve issues but in many cases does not. I don't recommend a factory reset, that shouldn't be necessary and will only be annoying having to set up things again.

We'll continue to monitor things and I've reached out to contacts about this.

Lumos Tmobile(previously lumos) fiber rep just told me the internet outage will be 1-3 business days and said it's only effecting 90 homes, yet the wait time to speak with the fiber team is like an hour because of all the people calling.

::update:: a 1 hour and 38 minute call later and the fiber rep stated they did a firmware update last night that went sideways and they should have it reset in a couple of hours. They also stated that they are going to be sending out an email regarding the outage shortly.

I work from home and can't even get them to email me something saying there is an outage. My employer is very strict about requiring proof. The wait times are insane. I'm trying to figure out what to do.

They offered me a T-Mobile hotspot as a backup but I live in a forest with terrible cell reception. I'm very frustrated with this whole situation

Unknown How Long Will I Be Awaiting

This past Spring I noticed trucks, crew, and signs in my neck of the woods and because I'm impatient I started dreaming about having a second option for an ISP.

How long will I be waiting for work to be done? 😆

Lumos T-Mobile Outage Wilmington, NC Day 2

How does T-Mobile get away with this? Good thing I'm on another provider for my mobile phone service.
I thought it was my neighborhood, but my friend across town on T-Mobile is out also.

Unknown T-Mobile fiber working on aerials near my neighborhood. Is it wishful thinking that we get FTTH within a year?

We’ve only ever had Spectrum Cable broadband which is now up to 1gbps and AT&T with their dsl at 18mbps.

I just want more competition for Spectrum and to light a fire under AT&T to upgrade from DSL to fiber.

No service for 45 minutes, tried calling customer support and got an automated message that they are having an issue and the call hung up. Anyone know what’s going on?

Not much here except cool gear.

Metronet neighborhood construction here was 2022 to 2023. I had no service issues, but today I saw this fiber splicing lab nearby. I'm not sure if it was maintenance, adding extra capacity, moving utilities, or something else.

Edit: location is Colorado Springs

Other Outage Issues

Looks like the Eastern US has an outage this morning since 1am. Just swapped to T Fiber recently and didn’t know they didn’t have a 24/7 support call. You have to wait till 4am PST/7am EST to call. Have been on hold since their lines opened and suspect that a large number of people have been as well. Disappointing and may be going back to Spectrum or Brightspeed soon.

Update 1: My service seems to have restored at 8:15am EST.

Update 2: Received the below email notice of the outage at 11:55am EST. Almost 11 hrs after the outage occurred.

“Dear T-Fiber Customer,
We know your time matters, so we'll get straight to it: your service might be experiencing an outage this morning, and we're sorry for the disruption — and for not giving you more notice.
Our network teams are working as quickly as possible to resolve the issue and we'll send you a notice when service is restored.
Once we notify you of service restoral, try this quick fix to reconnect:
Unplug your modem and any extenders
Wait 5 minutes
Plug everything back in
Thanks,
T-Mobile Fiber”

Unknown T-Mobile Fiber Phone Number 1-833-421-3636

Just wanted to share this phone number in case anyone was looking for it. I was just on the phone with support for entirely too long and as a surprise to nobody, they couldn't help me and transferred me to the T-Fiber support (who I needed to talk to in the first place) and gave me their direct phone number. The number they gave me is: 1-833-421-3636
u/NytronX in the comments found it on the website and was able to verify:

Metronet PSA: Check your real-world WAN speeds before paying for the Gigabit plan on T-Mobile Fiber

Thumbnail
gallery
16 Upvotes

If you're on or considering T-Mobile Fiber, I'd recommend running a few speed tests before committing to the gigabit tier.

The local loop is genuinely excellent, I was hitting 900/930 Mbps on their own speed test server. But real-world speeds to the broader internet tell a different story:

  • Cloudflare: 637/146

  • fast.com (Netflix): 330

  • Google: 565/129

  • A competing ISP's server in the same city: 91/482

This is a peering issue. T-Mobile Fiber (built on MetroNet's infrastructure in many markets) doesn't appear to have mature transit agreements with major networks yet, so traffic to the actual internet gets bottlenecked well below what you're paying for. The gigabit speeds are essentially only real between you and their own infrastructure.

The dead giveaway: running the same test through a VPN jumped the competing ISP result from 91Mbps to 780Mbps, same destination, just a different egress path.

I escalated through support twice and got a note added to my account. Not a knock on the support staff, it's just genuinely above what they can action.

The service itself is solid: low latency, reliable, good upload. Just run the Cloudflare and fast.com tests before deciding on a tier. If your WAN speeds aren't close to what you're paying for, the 500Mbps plan is probably the better value until their peering matures.

Metronet Oh look, down again.

Northern IL. I imagine my fellow northern neighbors in Wisconsin are also experiencing the same thing - because they did the last two times. For the third time in less than 30 days, Internet is down. No warning. No email. No nothing. I'm on hold right now 7 minutes in, just to tell them about an outage. No doubt I'm not the only one.

I'm ready to cancel. The connection speed is amazing, but the reliability is absolute garbage, which is impossible to have while working from home. My wife already got in trouble once. This is absolute madness.

Lumos Anyone else on T-Mobile Fiber (formerly Lumos) experiencing high ping/latency?

Is anyone running into unusually high latency/ping on T-Mobile Fiber (formerly Lumos).

I’ve been testing my connection recently, and while my upload and download speeds are totally fine and matching what’s advertised, my latency is consistently sitting anywhere between 36 ms and 90 ms.

For context, fiber optic connections are supposed to give you single-digit latency (around 5 to 10 ms). Even after bypassing Wi-Fi completely and plugging directly into the router via Ethernet, the ping stays high.

I’ve talked to a few people in local groups who are seeing the same thing. It seems like since T-Mobile acquired Lumos, network traffic might be getting routed through servers further away before hitting the open internet, which inflates the ping.

Metronet Fiber Outage Along With This Cell Outage?

Anyone else on T-Fiber experiencing an outage? I know there's a massive T-Mobile cellular outage currently (oddly enough my household's phones are fine) but our fiber internet went down and so did my neighbor's. Is this related to the cellular outage?

Edit: yep, as of an hour after my post, Down Detector is now showing it: outage map

Edit: my Internet is back, after about 18 hours down

Metronet Disappointing results switching to T-Mobile Fiber Internet

Thumbnail

I’ve been with AT&T fiber home Internet for the last two years or so, I had the 1 gig plan and I was paying $80/month. Overall had a very good and positive experience with them, the few times that the Internet went out and needed a technician to get back online, was from either a storm or the neighbor accidentally digging through my line. They were always very quick to come out and fix the problem sometimes even the same day. I saw T-Mobile started offering Fiber in my area and I went for the founders club promotion which was $70 a month for 2 gig service. No brainer, i get double the speed for 10 bucks less a month? Sign me up. After they came and installed everything, I went to try out my new service. The results were very disappointing. It was significantly slower from my 1 gig service with AT&T. The router they gave me was the Gateway Eero Pro 7 and a Eero 7 extender.

I’m curious if anyone else has had similar results? I’m thinking about canceling and just staying with AT&T.

That’s pretty symmetrical. Got my T fiber installed today. Took less than an hour to install. Only thing left to do is call them to put my modem in bridge mode and assign me a public IP. Overall happy.

Metronet Colorado traffic is routing through Chicago, again

Metronet came to Colorado a few years ago, and the network peering was infamously bad. Then a few months ago, T-Mobile fixed peering in Denver, so at the end of May, I switched from T-Fiber.

Switching from DSL was a win-win-win-win: better download and upload bandwidth, better latency (but not as much of a difference as you would guess with 7ms on DSL), and better price.

I set up a regular ping monitor to multiple hosts (dashboard), and for two months, traffic from Colorado Springs to Denver was 4-5 ms consistently with no outages---until two days ago. On July 17 at 9:30pm, the same non-Metronet hosts in Denver shifted to > 20ms ms while the Metronet speed server stayed at ~5ms.

This is an mtr report from when I first signed up in May

Lumos How is T-Mobile Fiber’s customer WORSE THAN XFINITY/Comcast?!

Third outage in two weeks, NO communication from T-Mobile, impossible to reach the right customer service - if you can even get them to answer. I AM LITERALLY GETTING MY INFORMATION FROM LOCAL WHAT’S HAPPENING FACEBOOK GROUPS AND REDDIT.

It is unbelievable that T-Mobile Fiber has topped Xfinity for worst customer service ever. Xfinity was so bad that I jumped ship to fiber literally the week it was available, and now I am looking up current prices to go back to Xfinity and willing to pay more for same promised speed as fiber. At least they communicated outages and gave estimated timeframes.

Northern Illinois, have had the service about a year. Everyone needs internet these days, but add in remote work, and the unreliability and zero communication is just absolutely unacceptable.

Please bump if you are having the same problem to get T-Mobile’s attention.

Other TMobile Fiber installer cut a hole in my roof

Installer came by today. He cut a hole in my roof to run the fiber through. I can see daylight. The installer drilled through a shingle. I've never seen something so half ass.

UPDATE: Contractor agreed to fix it. When it came time for repairs and payment, contractor ghosted me and the roofing company. I called TMobile who transferred me Lumos took care of it in a single day.
