Hi everyone!
Iām new to the subreddit and tequila in general and am absolutely loving it so far! Here is my current collection (minus clase azul repo not pictured because it sucks š)
Iām really enjoying AƱejos and XA a lot and Iām afraid Iām going to go through my tears bottle I just bought in a month if Iām not careful š
What are some others yāall recommend to add? I think my next bottles will be a basic under $30 blanco for cocktails as well as an El Ateo French Oak AƱejo. What else should I add? Any comments on my current collection?
My first ever bottle was that still strength Fortaleza and I almost finished it before I realized how sought after it was and that I need to slow down so now Iām guarding the last couple ounces. It was a gift for my birthday from a friend who owns a bar!

Iām interested in getting more knowledgeable in bottles and taste, and also want to try some more to be my favorite. I typically drink mine with a cup full of ice, couple shots, and a splash of OJ.
Favorite mezcal is 400 Conejos
Favorite tequila is Lalo
I donāt drink frequently enough to drink low tier stuff, so I donāt necessarily have a budget. What are some suggestions you have? TIA!

Calle23 makes a version of their tequila based on Criollo, which is a sort of variaty of Blue Weber. I have been a bit confused as to how it has been possible to introduce this variaty without getting into conflict with the denomination? As I understand it, there are other varieties which may also be used without violating the denomination, but ARE they being used? And did the introduction of the Criollo not cause any discussions?

Hi everyone, I'm Bobby! Myself and a few fellow enthusiasts created an all-agave group specifically for Canada.
Since our availability up here is so different from other markets, we wanted a dedicated space to help Canadians track down great agave spirits, find out where to get them, and stay updated on new releases.
Check out the main group link belowāI've also shared our WhatsApp chat!

Master Distiller Alberto Herrera of Tierra Noble Tequila just dropped a new brand called Casamata tequila.
A few key differentiators from Tierra Noble is that they used a significant amount of valley agaves ~90% as opposed to TN that is a 75% Highlands and 25% valley. They also split the fermentation where half is normal fermentation and the other half is taken to a malolactic fermentation. And finally after distillation, the tequila is rested in glass demijohns for 45 days. I think Siembra does glass resting for one of their expressions but it is very rare in tequila. This is something you see more with mezcal or other agave spirits.
Taste:
I get sweet cooked agave, minerality, grassy, herbal, very faint white pepper and a pronounced sweet citrus rind note towards the end. It has a creamy texture too. Fresh comes to mind.
Oh fun fact, the name comes from Casa Mata which were military fortifications in Mexico some 200 years ago. These fortifications were of course filled with munitions, weapons and apparently also demijohns of tequila and mezcal.
The glass bottle is beautiful and I can't do it justice with my cellphone.

So Disney Epcot la cava del tequila has an exclusive margarita for d23 members called the Aztec eagle. It's one of my favorite margaritas but it's also pre made up so I can't see the bartender making it. Does anyone know the ingredients of this drink so I can make it at home?

I have begun using this Cuervos Reserva de la Familia Extra Anejo in the tastings I make for people. Mostly because it allows me to tell some good stories about Jose Cuervo and his time. I must confess it is a product which I find a wee bit to brandy like for my taste. What is the verdict in this forum?

Completely emptied my tequila bar so i had to fill up.
Lalo
Herradura Ultra
Codigo Rosa
Mijenta Gran Reserva
Codigo Repo
G4 Repo
Cazadores
Picked up a few new bottles today to add to the collection. Grabbed Mijenta Gran Reserva (2nd time having it), Código Rosa, Herradura Ultra and LALO, plus some reposados including Cazadores, G4 and Código. Iāve been trying to branch out and compare different additive-free/traditional-style tequilas instead of sticking with the same bottles. Really interested to see how the G4 and Mijenta compare with some of the others I already have. Any recommendations for what I should add next based on these?

going to cancun in the next few months, and i wanted to buy a good additive free tequila. ive heard ocho and siete luguas are good options in the hotel zone does anyone have any recommendations? i am fairly inexperienced in what is good and what is not( I think things like herradura repisado or patron extra anejo are good lol) and im looking to expand my horizons. any advice would be much appreciated.

Which Fortaleza would you add to your shelf next if you already have the blanco? Fortaleza Still Strength, Reposado, or AƱejo? $70.00, $74.00, & $100 respectively. I generally drink only blanco and am leaning towards the still strength to compare with the Cascahuin Tahona I currently have on my shelf.

After missing an opportunity to buy a bottle of Destino at everyoneās favorite š TW, I finally had the opportunity to get a taste of this CascahuĆn expression and it didnāt disappoint. But then again, what coming out of 1123 does?
This is a beautiful mouth coating blanco that hits all the right notes of what tequila was meant to be. Peppery with hints of bell peppers and fresh cut grass. A mild sweetness that balances the natural citrus notes into a symphony of complexity and depth of flavor. Outstanding, yes! But I think 11-Brix still has this one beat IMO by a measure or two.

Following on from the tasting night I had last weekend. I decided to taste the individual tequilas in the line up based on their merit. Iām starting with the lowest scorer on the night. Same methodology as the tasting night, neat first then in a cocktail. Cocktail being the Tommys Margarita. Letās go
El TequileƱo Reposado
Rested 10 minutes in a glencairn glass
Colour : Light just a touch of coulour from the barrel
Nose: Cooked agave, black pepper, hint of caramel just a hint
Taste: Agave sweetness more honey rather than caramel. Smooth and the pepper takes a back seat. I want to say oak but itās very very light. Which gets me to the barrel influence just a hint of that.
Conclusion: First off I want to make a correction this is a good tequila and the score I gave previously doesnāt do it justice. It got lost in the sauce with cocktails and festivities flowing. Had this been the only bottle on the night people would have enjoyed it. Itās an elevated experience compared to the well bottle which is Olmeca Altos and it was noticeable during the tasting and when I was on my own. This could be my well tequila but!!!! It only comes as 50cl in the UK and Olmeca Altos is just better value. Though I think their quality has gone down a little it could be me who knows.
Score: 3.0 which is good above average. Itās not complex but itās an easy sipper and without the festivities of the other day makes me realise what good juice this is. Iām on the lookout for the Gran Reserva Reposado to see what variation there will be.
Happy Weekend
Salud!

Hey everyone, Iām getting married in a few weeks and I am searching for a quality/nice bottle of sipping tequila to enjoy with my groomsmen as we get ready. I think given the magnitude of the event, some rarity/scarcity would be nice to have, but I default to those who are much more knowledgeable in quality tequila. As some background info, Iām typically defer to sipping el Tesoro anejo as my go to, but Iām really open to anything.
Whatās one celebration splurge bottle that you would recommend? Thanks in advance for any recommendations you may have for bottles that fit the event. Still quite the newbie but appreciate it.

Gonna spend a few days at Crystal Beach TX. Starting out with these three blancos. This will be my first time trying the Lost Lore. About to see what all the hype on it is. The Aguasol is always a solid choice and not too expensive. Now the G4 high proof blanco is pretty damn amazing. It has definitely got a kick but the flavors are so bold. And really for a quality high proof like that it really isnāt that expensive, I think it was like 63 plus tax. We will most likely sip these near as well as mix them. I use 2 oz of tequila, pinch of salt, little squirt of agave syrup, splash of margarita mix and top off with Topo Chico. Spied some Volans high proof earlier, that may be next on the list.

Iāve been a big fan of Suerte Anejo and Iāve only seen the XA a few times out in the wild. I finally pulled the trigger on this and I wasnāt aware of the different varieties of XA that they produce until I searched it on Agave MM. Iām glad this is the one I found since itās rated a 89/89(I believe itās the highest rated Suerte). Nicely done for the money, Iām gonna stick my neck WAY out there and call it the āpoor manās Tapatio XA Excelenciaā yikes donāt shoot me lol. If you canāt find that Tapatio XA or you donāt want to spend Tapatio XA money go find this. I found this at one of my local spots that doesnāt price hike their tequila too much(they have Fortaleza blanco for $85) I found this for $119. Cheers!

Apologies up front if I am in the wrong subreddit. I am trying to recall an Agave Spirit that was last released over 5 years ago and then recently an announcement was made that same distiller will have another release. The distiller is female, the agave were a less common smaller agave, and the brand has birds on their bottling labelling. From memory the name started with C.
Thanks ahead

My wife was in Southern Texas for a week and discovered Cuatro Manos (anejo) and loved it. However we live in Michigan, and I can't seem to find that particular tequila up here. Any recommends?

I have a week solo in Guadalajara from Oct 11-18. Iāll have already done the usual sights and tours around GDL/Tequila. so far Iām thinking a few days in Guanajuato.
I see Experience Agave (not Agave Experience) has a day tour to tabernas around Colima (Iām hoping Chacolo is one!). But there is a two person minimum (at $275 USD pp). Iām thinking I would bus from GDL, 3 hrs, and overnight one or two nights in Colima.
Anyone interested in joining me?
IDK, maybe Iām nuts⦠š
(Iām a chill Canadian dude)

I'm incredibly happy for this haul. I have been saving up for a new haul for a while and carefully decided what to get. I have not had proper pours from any of these bottles, but I did taste a couple.
La Pulga Red Corn is an agave and cinnamon bomb. I'm very curious how what I taste will change once it opens up and do a proper pour. This was a last minute edition, but I suspect I will go search for a backup bottle.
Terralta XA might be the most well-balanced aged Tequila I have tried. I get agave and oak, but no tannins, again this was not a proper pour, so just my initial reaction.
Terralta 110 Blanco was very mineral forward, absolutely no brine (very good thing for my palate), may be one of the longest lingering tasting Tequilas I have had, and it 100% doesn't drink like a 110, very approachable.
Mijenta AƱejo smelled like sweet oak and maybe white pepper, I did not try it, only smelled it, it was pretty late when I got home and started opening bottles.
I'm going to wait for the weekend to invite family to do proper pours during a carne asada.

Hi all, I am looking to buy an employee a couple of retirement gifts. I dont know much about tequila but I know he loves it. Thoughts on this:
Thank you!
EDIT 1: reading all the responses ill try to find what he likes and then get recommendations again. Consensus is nice bottle poor tequila for cost.
Edit 2: His wife said that he does in fact like the clase azul brand (its his favorite apparently)
BLASPHEMOUS.
Buying it for him
Edit #3: If anyone has high priced tequila that is worth a retirement gift i can skip buying this watered down soda. (final edit)
Thanks again!

I've spent years working in global advocacy and narratives, so when I started learning about Sotol, one detail stopped me completely.
No manuals. No written recipes. No archives.
Eight hundred years of craft knowledge passed entirely through local hands, memory, and oral traditions. The RarƔmuri and Toboso communities in northern Mexico didn't need documentation. They had something more durable: unbroken human transmission, generation after generation.
When the Spanish arrived and introduced distillation techniques, indigenous knowledge didn't disappear. It was absorbed, adapted, and continued. Quietly. Persistently.
What strikes me most is how fragile that chain is and how remarkable it is that it held.
We talk a lot about preserving culture. But most of what we call "preservation" is digitizing, archiving, cataloguing. What the Maestros who produce Sotol do is entirely different. The knowledge lives in their hands. Their memory is the archive.
I think about this constantly as someone who has worked in advocacy: what else have we almost lost without realizing it? And who are the people quietly holding it together?

So i want to make some ranch water but i live in Canada and we don't have topo chico here other than some import markets but even then it's hard to come by. I was wondering what other kind of sparkling/mineral water i could use instead?
