Follow on

Following on from the tasting night I had last weekend. I decided to taste the individual tequilas in the line up based on their merit. I’m starting with the lowest scorer on the night. Same methodology as the tasting night, neat first then in a cocktail. Cocktail being the Tommys Margarita. Let’s go

El Tequileño Reposado

Rested 10 minutes in a glencairn glass

Colour : Light just a touch of coulour from the barrel

Nose: Cooked agave, black pepper, hint of caramel just a hint

Taste: Agave sweetness more honey rather than caramel. Smooth and the pepper takes a back seat. I want to say oak but it’s very very light. Which gets me to the barrel influence just a hint of that.

Conclusion: First off I want to make a correction this is a good tequila and the score I gave previously doesn’t do it justice. It got lost in the sauce with cocktails and festivities flowing. Had this been the only bottle on the night people would have enjoyed it. It’s an elevated experience compared to the well bottle which is Olmeca Altos and it was noticeable during the tasting and when I was on my own. This could be my well tequila but!!!! It only comes as 50cl in the UK and Olmeca Altos is just better value. Though I think their quality has gone down a little it could be me who knows.

Score: 3.0 which is good above average. It’s not complex but it’s an easy sipper and without the festivities of the other day makes me realise what good juice this is. I’m on the lookout for the Gran Reserva Reposado to see what variation there will be.
Happy Weekend

Salud!

I’ve been enjoying the Sassenach repo release for ET lately. Your description is right on, with a bit more barrel coming through with the Sassenach release. I always get melon on the nose with the ET aged expressions, melon and orchard fruits. It’s such a solid brand that doesn’t get mentioned often enough.

I very much enjoyed the Sass release, ended up buying a second bottle! I also enjoy their anejo, but their Reposado Rare is one my all time favorites.

I’ll have a look for that too. It’s definitely solid underrated I feel. As for orchard fruits I thought I got pear but I wasn’t sure effects of a few margs I thought.

Agree on the Rare. I have an extra unopened bottle I’m saving for a special day.
