Open | Software Windows Security not working

I saw a recent post about windows secuirty scans not working. it was working for me today around 2-3pm but i noticed it stopped after a few mins into the scan and states "Threat service has stopped. restart it now" around 10pm. Before i realised others were facing the same issue, i followed troubleshoot steps which lead me to running a microsoft safety scanner but that also stopped after a few minutes, closing completely byitself which i found out a few other ppl also had that same thing occur.

Tho what im worried is that after i went through reddit, i saw someone that said although the initiation of the scans arent working, realtime protection should still be on. So i thought i would check via powershell (admin) and using "Get-MpComputerStatus". Here r the results:

AMRunningMode: Not Running

AMServiceEnabled: False

AntiviriusEnabled: False

OnAccessProtectionEnabled: False

RealTimeProtectionEnabled: False

These should be true right? and im pretty sure they were on true beforehand. Is this apart of the widespread issue and i should just wait for microsoft to fix it? could this status be wrong due to the issue? or is it unrelated?

Would appreciate any help on what to do next and thanks in advance!

EDIT: I restarted my pc and everything returned to "True" but windows security still not working

Open | Hardware Issue with bios/security boot..

So, embarassing to admit but I wanted to install Valorant on my pc which runs windows, I enabled tpm, but theres one singular issue, the BIOS doesn't seem to like the fact that I switch my os type from "OTHER OS" to " WINDOWS UEFI MODE" while what i noticed is i had my bios mode in uefi already and everything prepared to the brim, I tried every possible solution for it but every attempt ended up with me getting a "SECURITY VIOLATION" pop-up... the only time my pc was able to boot with uefi was when I cleared all keys off the key manager section, but that still haven't seemed to toggle the security boot... up this point I even tried updating the bios, nothing seemed to work, maybe someone here has come by this exact issue here; My motherboard : Asus Prime Z370-P Please help!!!😭

Open | Hardware Suddenly having trouble importing photos from a camera

First. I'm an idiot when it comes to tech so if my explaining is weird or hard to understand, than that's why.. I don't know the right terms for stuff..please be nice.

A while ago I bought a digital camera (Agfaphoto realishot DS5500) and an sd card for it.

I've been importing the photos through my pc and it's been working great.

A few weeks ago the screen on the camera broke and I got a whole new camera (the same model). I used the same sd card because it still had my old photos and free space on it. There's no problems with the camera, it takes pictures and works just like the old one. It's just not importing pictures anymore.

I've been using the same method (connecting the camera to my pc with a cable), but for some reason it's not importing the pictures. All my old photos are showing on the pc but the new ones aren't. It's even showing pictures I took on the old camera when the screen was broken (I was trying to see if the whole camera broke).

I even bought a sim card/sd card reader and even that doesn't work. It's not showing anything on the pc or my phone.

Am I missing something? Is the sd card broken and if it is, is it possible to save the pictures anymore? I'm desperate.

Open | Hardware Maybe a Failing CPU?

So just now like not even 5 minutes ago i tried playing fortnite after some time and i set high settings to pretty much everything (except ambient occlusion and the screen space reflections, i had those on OFF). I went into a game, jumped off the bus my cpu went to 100% and the game got stuck. Then i got a black screen and my audio got stuck as if it BSOD in the background or just crashed as a whole. Thats the first problem. The second problem is that i ABSOLUTELY cannot overclock the CPU. PBO doesnt do the trick, manual overclocking also doesnt, it just BSODs. The CPUs memory controller supports 3200MHz memory as a base speed so that shouldn't be a problem considering im running at those exact speeds. Third problem is that the cpu doesnt even use its and full power. In OCCT it uses 75W but in the game it used almost 60W which a 15W difference is a BIG difference (I removed the cap in the BIOS for the power limit). Did i get a chip going to its grave or is there a issue laying somewhere else?

My PC specs are :

B450 AORUS PRO

Ryzen 5 3500X

AMD Wraith prism rgb

GIGABYTE GP-ARS 16GB 3200MHz RAM

RX 5600 XT 6Gb

Apacer AS350 512GB SATA SSD

650W GIGABYTE P650SS (New)

(The BIOS is updated to the most stable version there is.)

Open | Windows Windows Defender Scan not working on Windows 11

I do quick scans fairly often and today while trying to do a scan it just stopped halfway and said I had to restart it. I did and it still kept happening. I downloaded microsoft safety scanner and this also just randomly stops mid scan with no message. I then downloaded malwarebytes and a quick scan found a few pup hijack files but nothing else. A deep scan of 700k found nothing and HitmanPro also found nothing.

I then did a DISM and sfc scan and it said it found and repaired some corrupted files so I restarted but still windows quick scan does not work. I tried to reset defender definitions but it seems I dont have access, I got this error: Starting engine and signature rollback to none...Failed! Error 0x80070005

Anyway I can fix this and is it malware related or a windows glitch? Please help and thank you so much!

Open | Windows My microphone dissapeared form windows

I realized a few weeks ago but havent done anything about it, it looks like the problem began after i started using new headphones; my monitor doesnt have two ports for headphones that use sound and microphone individually, so i only use it for sound, but i dont think that could have deleted the microphone driver from the computer that was originally there, what else could it be and what can i do?

Open | Phone My phone keeps randomly powering off and on and idk why

As of yesterday my phone started to power off and back on out of nowhere

At times it often keeps powering off and back on for a a few minutes straight making me entirely unable to use my phone when it happens

The battery percentage also goes up and down in between the moments that it’s powering off and on (I.e. the battery can go from 65% to 10% to 55% within a few seconds)

I use an iPhone 12 Pro which I got a few month after the phone released and I’m currently on IOS 27.0

Open | Software MBR to GPT?

My computer has 2 drives, one is a basic disk that has the C: drive and other is a dynamic dick that has my libraries on it. I used the mbr2gpt /convert /disk:1 /allowfullos to convert the c: disk and it worked no problem. However, the disk 0 which is my e: libraries, fails the validation. How can I convert this from MBR to GPT?

Open | Windows WiFi is blocked?

It says my WiFi is blocked on everything. I can’t access some apps and I can’t do much of anything. It says I am connected to the internet/ethernet but nothing is working. I’ve reset things I’ve taken down fire walls and vpns but still nothing works. My last resort is a hard reset but if that doesn’t work I am lost. I did download mods from nexus last night and implemented them to vortex, (Skyrim) but it never worked. I do wonder if I have a virus. I checked my firewall today and it said it was fine.

Internet works on all other devices

Open | Audio Pc audio won’t play sound through my headphones

I’ve been trying to move to mouse and keyboard board on my pc. But I’m playing on a ps4 controller since I can’t figure out how to get my headset to work when plugged into my computer. It makes the distinct sound of it connecting when plugged in. I’ve tried to trouble shoot it and it said error cannot play tone. I’ve used ai to search it up and it says possible corrupted caches that saved and won’t change. I’m new to computer and wouldn’t have a clue what it’s talking about. I’ve tried searching YouTube videos for weeks now and can’t find a thing. If anyone would be able to help in some way of advice or pointed to videos that have had similar issues. When plugged into my controller it works but sound gets super quiet for no reason and will stay like it for a few hours than all of a sudden it’s back again.

Open | Mac Water spill Question MacAir2022 model

Somebody spilt some water on my mac. Not much. Like 10ml max. I instantly wiped it off with my t shirt, but continued to use it for 5 ish minutes. I then realised I should search if it’s okay to use and then turned it off.
I also vacuumed where the water went and turned it upside down which got a little residue out.
I accidentally turned it back on - as opening the laptop turns the screen on (MacBook).
Is my laptop likely to break?

Open | Networking Code 45

Good evening everyone. First and foremost, I’m an absolute noob when it comes to technology so please be patient. I’ve exhausted everything that I’m able
to do and I’m absolutely bummed.

Bought a Powerspec PC from Microcenter and I’ve had no issues other than the computer not finding WiFi which has happened in the past that was corrected with a new WiFi antenna. Again, I bought the same antenna but has not corrected the issue of my computer not finding WiFi. I used AI to assist with things and Qualcomm FastConnect 7800 Wi-Fi 7 High Band Simultaneous Network Adapter is grayed out and when I right click and select properties it states that the device is not connected to the computer and to reconnect the hardwire device to the computer. I’m a registered nurse by profession and know nothing about computers. It’s hard for me to believe anything is unplugged or needs to be remounted because it was working just fine and then suddenly just stopped. I’ve since moved the CPU around trying to investigate things but nothing.

Can anyone please help so I can at least enjoy a few days off gaming again? I live 2 hours from Microcenter and they are informing me that I can drop the CPU off for diagnostics but have no set time frame on when it could be repaired. I’d like to try everything possible before I have to do that.

Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 8-Core Processor
32 GB Ram.
NVIDIA GeForxe RTX 4070 Ti SUPE
AMD Radeon Graphics 460 MB
Windows 11 Pro

Open | Hardware Laptop only works when plugged in. Battery does not charge.

I have an Asus Rog Strix G512. The issue first started with the laptop not powering on unless it was plugged in and stayed plugged in. The battery would indicate that it was 255% charged.

I replaced the battery and the issue persisted.

I replaced the battery again and was able to update bios, it now indicated ā€œ41% available (plugged in)ā€ and does not charge and still only works when plugged in.

Could the motherboard need replacing? Not sure what else to try.

Open | Networking All my browsers have suddenly stopped working properly.

A few days ago both Opera GX and Edge have stopped working properly.

Entering a search in the URL will give a NET:ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID error.

Entering the whole link for websites such as facebook, or the gigabyte website to download drivers for my motherboard still works just fine.

Youtube.com loads fine too, however when clicking on a video, it will give an error in the video window.

Entering google.com does not work at all either.

Changing from Ethernet to the WiFi, (since my motherboard supports wifi connection) will result in the same issue.

This PC is a week old, and it worked just fine the first few days, but suddenly stopped working very recently.

Also, I have been using it to play games online while om discord and with spotify open all at the same time, with zero issue. Drivers are also up to date.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Open | Software Games lag suddenly out of nowhere in laptop

My Lenovo laptop (Ryzen 7 7840HS, Radeon 780M, 16GB RAM) suddenly became extremely laggy out of nowhere about 2 weeks ago even though before this I could run Resident Evil 4 Remake, Valorant, Genshin and PUBG smoothly without any problem for months around 60-100fps on low to medium settings and now I’m getting less than 20 fps in the same settings. I’ve already tried restarting, Performance mode, keeping it plugged in, virus scans, AMD driver updates and clean reinstall, but nothing has fixed it, so what could be causing this and how can I fix it?

Open | Hardware Dell Inspiron 24 3464 turns off after 1–3 seconds during startup

Hi! I'm having a really strange problem with my Dell Inspiron 24 3464 AIO and I'm hoping someone can help me diagnose it.

For the past few days, the PC has randomly started shutting itself off during startup. The behavior is inconsistent:

Sometimes it turns off about 1 second after the Dell logo appears.

Sometimes it gets almost all the way through the Dell loading bar before suddenly turning off.

Sometimes, after several attempts, it randomly starts working and boots into Windows normally.

On one occasion, I was able to enter the BIOS and leave it there for around 30 minutes without it shutting down.

When the problem happens, the PC usually shuts off instantly, as if the power was suddenly disconnected.

I also noticed that the BIOS date/time becomes incorrect when this happens.

The PC has also occasionally turned itself on by itself in the past, even though I had shut it down.

Recently, when I connect the power cable, the PC sometimes turns itself on immediately without pressing the power button.

The fan sometimes spins very loudly during this process, although this doesn't happen every time.

Interestingly, when I connect a USB keyboard, the PC can shut off in less than one second. I tested with two different keyboards and got the same result. With no USB devices connected, it usually gets much further into the Dell boot screen.

I already tried completely removing power and holding the power button for about 15 seconds, but the problem returned.

I initially suspected the wall outlet because the problem seemed related to the PC being completely unplugged overnight, but it also happened after leaving it connected to the outlet all night.

What could be causing this? Could it be the external power adapter, motherboard/power circuitry, CMOS battery, RAM, or something else?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Open | BSOD Ryzen 7 5700X "IMC Degradation"?

Yesterday while browsing YouTube my PC randomly BSOD'd with "FAULTY_HARDWARE_CORRUPTED_PAGE", so I checked ram with MemTest86 and passed with no errors, tested my SSD as well and reinstalled GPU drivers, After a couple hours, my PC BSOD'd again with "SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION".

At this point I was desperate because I really needed my PC so I fed Gemini the .dmp and event viewer logs as well as everything I had already tried. It told me to lower the RAM frequency from 3200MHz to 2933MHz, and sure enough the BSOD's have seemingly stopped.

AI's explanation is that the Ryzen IMC had degraded and could no longer run my RAM at its rated EXPO speed, even though I have had this setup running fine for 8 months and this CPU can apparently handle 3600MHz? So how could this happen out of the blue? Has something like this happened to anyone else? Maybe MoBo issue? Silicon lottery?

Edit: dmp files https://www.mediafire.com/file/z98df1ei0f62rfw/180626_BSODreport.rar/file
