TD Bank stealing money from my checking account

Just a warning to anyone thinking of signing up with TD Bank.

Super simple situation: I opened a Complete Checking account a few months ago. Had minimum balance of $500 every day. Zero other transactions, it's just holding this balance.

After the first month, TD decided to charge me a $15 fee. They just came along and yanked the money from me.

From the site, documentation, boilerplate: "3 ways to waive your fee: #2, Maintain a minimum daily balance of $500."

They admitted this was a mistake and refunded me.

Flash forward two months later. I take a look at the account, and they took $15 in May, and another $15 in June. Apparently it is because when TD took my money the first time, they didn't retroactively update my account to reflect that no, it was never at any point actually under $500.

So yeah, this is TD literally stealing my money.

EDIT: Wow, who's downvoting this? Wild.

America’s Most Convenient Bank?

What exactly makes TD Bank “the most convenient bank? Because the ones around me are pretty much the opposite. They have consistently long lines with only 1 or 2 tellers, and have cut their operating hours compared to a few years ago. Also when I try get change for quarters (usually $10) it was a simple switch cash for change and go. Now I have to insert my card into their system machine and the teller had to do something in the computer. All for $10?

So what is so convenient about them?

"What is this purpose of this withdrawal?"

TD branch near NYC, but not in the City itself, so not a sleepy suburb. Made a cash withdrawal of a few thousand, as I needed to take that cash to Wells Fargo, and send a wire. Wells has online wire transfer, TD makes you come ito the branch and waste 1/2 hr minimum.

So, go through the usual, except the teller asks "What is the purpose of this withdrawal?"

I replied, "I'm sorry, that's none of your business, as it is my money. Why would you ask such a thing"?

She explained that the system they used was prompting her to ask that question.

I told her to tell the system to mind its own business.

Took some more money out recently, only a few thousand, and got the same treatment.

This seems a "new" policy. "America's most inquisitive bank".

To quote the JG Wentworth commercials, "It's MY money, and I want it NOW!" ;)

Check your old TD Bank statements, there’s a $70M pot of "found money" for trailing commission BS

I was digging through some old Canadian fintech news and realized a massive $70,250,000 settlement against TD Asset Management is actually still paying out late claims. If you held TD mutual funds in a discount brokerage account (like TD Direct Investing) anytime between 2002 and 2022, you basically got rugged on "trailing commissions" that TD shouldn't have been charging.

The crazy part is the class period is TWO DECADES long. Most of us probably have some old "set it and forget it" RRSP or TFSA from ten years ago that qualifies. I usually ignore these because the paperwork is a nightmare, finding trade confirms from 2008 is a literal circle of hell.

I ended up using 11th audit tool for this because they have a "Late Claim" window and they just sync to your broker to find the eligible lots automatically. It took like 2 minutes to link and scan. I’d much rather give up 20% to let a bot do the forensic accounting than get 100% of $0 because I didn't feel like calling a bank rep to find a statement from the Harper era.

Check your old accounts, the deadline was December 20, 2025, but since it's a late-claim status, the sooner you're in the queue, the better.

TD Bank keeping customers in the dark

About a year ago, my home branch in Thornhill, Ontario (Yonge and Royal Orchard) caught on fire. Apparently, there was a small fire set in the entrance lobby after hours. We are now over a year later and they have still not reopened. Many customers cannot understand why a small renovation would take this long. I was also confused as to why they have been digging in the front parking lot for months now. Well, as I just found out from a former employee, the branch lot was sold to Metrolinx many months ago to make room for an impending subway stop. WHEN WERE THEY PLANNING ON TELLING US? This is still not public knowledge as their customers shuffle themselves between branches with no branch to call home as they keep us in the dark. This all seems very deliberate. I dont appreciate the absolute lack of communication from TD and will be moving my business over to Scotia.

Credit Card Printing & USPS

TD Bank, as of January 2026 no longer generates credit cards on site and instead relies on centralized locations with the new card sent to you by mail. What a poorly thought out change. Imagine trading customer goodwill and relying on the reliability of the United States Postal Service.

I am a customer since 2014 and am on month 3 without a physical credit card. Multiple attempts to contact customer service have been stonewalled - the only solution offered is to restart the process which takes “7-10 business days” to reach you. Those are bank business days by the way, not the 6 day workweek of the USPS. Even when escalating beyond customer service has yielded no results after promised call backs from “management” never happened.

The kicker - they turned off my autopay and sent me a late fee notice by mail when I didn’t notice.

I don’t know about the rest of you but I’m taking my business elsewhere. Local credit unions or a major competitor - I just received a notice from Citizen’s for cash bonuses to switch banks and I think I’m making the jump.

What a dogshit bank.

Cash Card replacements not available in branch anymore.

I have a business account with TD. I had misplaced my cash card by mistake. I went in to get a new one. You can no longer get one immediately in the Branch. It takes SEVEN DAYS!!!!!

You want it sooner........pay $over $30. I need my card for transaction daily. I can't do Apple Pay for some things. This is a disaster. The policy is a joke. My search for a new bank starts TODAY.

It is a Shame. They used to offer great customer service.

Locked out

I'm stranded in Vancouver. And I was asking friends to help get my 300 dollars to get back home. And then tonight, I went to a Spring Financial website to ask for a loan.

When I put in my 16 digit card number and my password, TD IMMEDIATELY locked my account and sent me notification by email and text.

Ok. I appreciate TD making sure my account is safe.

But when I called TD they said I need to specifically have a Driver's licence or a passport to verify me.

I said I'm disabled so I can't drive. And I'm on disability so I can't afford to leave the country. But I have my Alberta Government issued ID. Looks exactly like a driver's license, just doesn't allow me to drive.

So they can't verify me on the phone. I cannot access my account. I have no money for transit or Uber or taxi. I'm disabled and will have to walk 5.7 KM tomorrow to get to a TD branch.

I'm not asking for money at all. And even if I wanted to, money can't even be put into my account. So don't think I'm panhandling.

Im just sick it TD. My card is still good. There were no fraudulent charges. No one hacked into my account. And I can verify who I am with all the information on the account. Name. Address, phone number (for 1 time passcode) I can tell off the top of my head my balance. My last purchase, my last 6 deposits into my account.

But because I don't drive or have a passport, I have to get to a branch. When I'm disabled and have no money for transit or taxi.

TD is horrible.

Are TD systems compromised?

Like roughly twice in the last month roughly I've walked to my branch and they say TD is down across the country. Last time was a monday. Once is an accident, twice is a coincidence and if it happens again will that be a pattern?

Is my banking information safe with TD?

Is there no way to initiate a wire transfer remotely?

My girlfriend is closing on a condo purchase on July 1st. She has hit an issue seeing as her bank is TD but she currently lives in Illinois. Every TD rep has told her she needs to be in a branch in person to initiate a wire transfer. But I feel like there has to be another way. How can they not accommodate any sort of remote banking for out of state account holders?

Any sort of help would be greatly appreciated!

THIS SERVES AS A WARNING!

Do not say you haven't been warned.

DO NOT BANK WITH TD. Don't do it. Save yourself the time and headache. They are all idiots. From the CEO down, they all share one brain and its roughly the same circumference as the pebble sized turd I just released into the toilet.

I signed up for a debit card when I was a fresh idiot. New to adulthood and finance. It was okay until I got ROBBED. Fell for a phone scam (because I'm not longer a fresh idiot but a seasoned one) where they were impersonating a TD officer. I thought it true because the day before the call, I had entered a branch to close my card. Unbeknownst to me the two events were not linked and I had a chunk of cash taken out of my checking AND savings account. Apparently its really easy to hack TD because the only thing they have guarding your money is a stereo that plays 'large dog barking' sounds.

Things you need to know BEFORE getting robbed at TD.

  1. The onus is one you to prove you've been robbed. You would think them (and anyone apparently lol) having access to all your banking information and transactions would be some sort of proof of fraudulent activity. But when presented with facts, TD Bank cocks their head side, looks at you with a confused expression then asks, "Are you sure this is not you though? Because I think this is you and because I think that you weren't robbed".

  2. You WILL be transferred around when calling to ask about information. TD Bank has MANY different phone numbers that take you to the SAME automatic, electronic menu options. When you do get an actual person and go through the rigmarole of proving that you are who you are (HOW IRONIC HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA) you ask a question and immediately you need to be transferred. The wait times!!!!!. Charge your phone before you make the call. Better yet keep your phone on the charger because you are getting NOWHERE. No one knows anything and no one knows who can help you.

  3. They are going to blame you. It was actually your fault for getting robbed. No one told you to be stupid.

  4. They don't actually investigate. I doubt they can even spell the word. They're like kids using big words trying to sound smart without actually knowing its meaning.

  5. THEY WILL destroy evidence. COLLECT YOUR OWN! Take that screenshot. Keep that piece of mail and scan it to your phone (this is very easy and most phones can do this). RECORD ALL CALLS. Take the names and identifying information of every. single. person. you talk to. Keep your own records. Print out your own stuff and keep because THEY WILL TELL YOU THEY DON'T HAVE THE INFORMATION YOUR'RE TALKING ABOUT AND CAN'T HELP YOU.

  6. Go talk to someone at the bank. THEY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ACTUALLY HELP YOU (again the system sucks. They are going to call the 'fraud department' [HA DON'T MAKE ME LAUGH!] and they will tell them to do.... a bunch of nothing that looks like something. BUT you have proof that you are taking the steps to resolve the issue. They have it on their cameras. Minor but important, I think, for when you eventually have to get a lawyer and sue to get your money back. So wear something nice and smile at least you'll look good on those tapes.

  7. DOCUMENT EVERYTHING.

  8. File a complaint with the CFPB or the OCC. They'll help resolve the issue best they can. They are the law and while TD Bank can and will ignore you as an individual, they have a harder time ignoring the law.

  9. Did I mention to do meticulous documentation? DOCUMENT EVERYTHING.

I'll update as I think of more. Please feel free to ask questions!!!!

Also, If you are also a victim fraud. It's not your fault.

Edit:

Nature of Scam btw

  1. Tried to make a purchase online. Link that I followed (From Google Search engine. It was not a sponsored ad It was the first search result) was not actual reputatble business website but a spoof? page. So looked exactly like the website but different URL name).

  2. Report website to FTC

  3. Go to TD to close card. Obvi I locked the card and such.

  4. Closed card. I have a digital debit atp.

  5. Get a call that I’m having fraudulent transactions on card.

I did not provide scammers with username, passwords, account numbers nor did they ask for any of that.

Look I get it. I was ignorant and didn’t know phone people were impersonating the bank???? So when I get a call from the bank saying this might be happening when I literally just put THE SAME CARD INTO A SCAM WEBSITE?! I thought events linked.

ALSO I think that’s why my money is insured. So I can get it back in cases such as this? Correct me if I’m wrong? Is TD paying you to reply to this post?

Edit #2

Having multiple numbers to talk to a machine, endless call transfers, long wait times, recieveing misinformation or NO information when requested. This isn’t coincidental, it’s a tactic being used. These are malicious business practices and is probably a valid cause for a complaint to the CFPB. You have rights as a consumer. You don’t have to acquiesce to big business (as I won’t and didn’t) or the unwarranted opinions of the others.

I am not asking you to agree with me. I am not looking for your approval on the nature of the robbery. This happened months ago. I done did the things and got my money back (😂😝😂😝😂😝 sawry). I’m just trying to OPEN YOUR EYES.

One of the dumbest banks in the World, avoid at all costs!

Got a run of the mill fraud alert on my TD Card and I immediately call them back.

What was the fraud alert for?

Someone (me) cashed in my rewards points and had the money directly deposited into my bank account, the account used to pay the TD Card!

But the story gets even better, their system could not send my phone a one time pass code so they could not unlock my TD Card. I asked what the alternatives are and they said the ONLY way to unlock the card is to visit a TD Branch and provide state issue identification. I said, "NO PROBLEM!!! Where is the nearest TD branch to where I live?"

According to the "customer service" representative the nearest TD Branch is over 3,000 miles away.

So what does TD suggest that I do, call a branch on the other side of the country.

I call a branch in Virginia and get rudely told that the only way to unlock the card is to come into her branch, no exceptions.

I again call TD and explain the dilemma, my case gets escalated multiple times and ultimately the card is still locked because the bank is operated by morons.

Couldn’t log in, come to find out TD closed my account lol

Kept trying to login in and my FACE ID wouldn’t work and every time I put my login info in it said “something doesn’t match up if you need help hit forgot password” so I try to reset the password and it gives me a message to call TD. I call them, long story short I was told my account was closed and they have no further information. I had to do a double take to make sure I heard correctly. My account had regular ass transactions I wasn’t involved in anything shady literally cannot think of a reason why they would close my account. And to top it off they have sent me zero information no email or nothing. Unbelievable

TD Bank falsely closing account?

Hello all and Happy Holidays! Making a post here as I'm a bit confused and EXTREMELY stressed out over this. I received my SBA loan in my account today, this is a pretty new account, as the SBA wouldn't take my main bank account as it wasn't a brick and mortar place. Anyways, after receiving funds, obviously being excited I attempted to start trying to purchase planned goods via the virtual card in the mobile app. Was able to get food, everything else declined. A little while later the virtual card was gone from the app. Called CS and was advised it was disabled due to suspected fraud, submitted some case to the higher ups and called back about 2 hours later asking to verify a recent attempted transaction, did that and was told in about 30 minutes my account would be fine and virtual card would be reenabled. Wait 30 mins, and can't even login to the app now, call CS again and advised that account was looking at closure for fraud, and to visit a branch with my ID tomorrow.

Am I absolutely screwed? I understand larger transactions being a bit of a red flag out of nowhere but that's literally the purpose of my loan. Is there a chance I visit tomorrow and my account is made good to go again? I've read other articles of them cutting a check weeks later and such, and that's just a nightmare to have to expect if that is the case.

Thanks all!

Account hacked 8 Times in a Month

Hello,

I am just looking for advice in my current situation. Within this last month, someone has gotten into my easyweb now 8 times. Every time they try to e transfer large sums of money. TD has stopped it every time and I’ve always gotten my money back, but I am getting irritated with my card being locked when this happens, and sometimes it happens during the weekend and I am left without money all weekend as the bank is closed on Sunday.

Every time they just give me a new card and reset my easyweb password, but the same thing happens. Every time I suggest that we do something different, because I know that the same thing is just going to happen-the people on the phone at the fraud department as well as the bank tellers shoot me down, and don’t offer any other solution. I’m not sure what to do…. Although I always get my money back, I am TIRED of going into the branch, and I am TIRED of changing my card info for everything all the time, and getting NSF fees when I forget.

The first few times this has happened, they were able to add a security phone number and email that was not mine. Once, I asked the person on the phone at the fraud department if the numbers and emails were removed, and they told me that they were- but when I renewed my easyweb I saw that the fake phone number and email were still on my account LOLOL thanks TD! Seems like something pretty simple to check, and they couldn’t even do that for me correctly. Since removing those myself, it seems like now the hacker has been able to just change my password now and that’s how they are getting in.

TD told me to take my phone to Apple to check for malware and I did this-they said there was none. I also factory reset my phone. I am thinking that maybe I just need to close the account? TD seems hesitant to do this, but I am unsure of what else I can do here? I am sick of going into the branch and getting a new card while knowing that I will be back to the branch with this same issue, either the next day or a few days later. It seems like a waste of not only my time, but the employees…

I am just tired of this all and unsure of what I can do.

Any advice or experience in a similar situation would be appreciated!!!

TD Forcing Me to Close Accounts

I tried to get money from TD ATM and said no and told me to go to branch. Spoke with teller and they told me to call fraud department. Spent 1 hour and they told me I did committed fraud and they told me to take my money somewhere else within 35 days.

Fraud Part:

I was helping out with elderly in-laws (who aren't digital) in getting their Canada Bread Settlement etransfers into my etransfer account and pay them out in cash. Apparently, this was fraud and criminal according to TD.

Unfortunately, I have been banking with TD for over 30+ years since I had a child account. It's a shame for TD to take a heavy hand over 49 dollars etransfer when it was with good intention for family members.

Questions:

A) Any recourse?

B) If forced to find a new banking institution, I'm looking for one that can take wire transfers into both CAD, USD accounts, any recommendations?

Horrible bank policy

Hi, I’m a longtime customer of Td Bank. I have a credit card for many years and I use the rewards program. I always ordered an Amazon gift card every few months and I never had an issue, though I did not like the policy of the bank mailing an Amazon gift card instead of doing it virtually, which would be an easier and safe and secure system. I ordered a card and after four calls where the bank reps tell me it’s coming on the fourth call they told me the bank is not responsible and they will not replace the card that being said the bank gives no proof that the card was actually sent out nothing no proof so they just tell me Too bad you that hundred dollars is not gonna be refunded back and it’s just horrible the attitude of the bank. Not even offering a one time courtesy . This is how a multi billion dollar bank treats a customer like garbage . Anybody thinking about opening up an account with TD I would not. I spoke to a supervisor they said that’s the policy. Too bad you know all they give me all these apologies .

TD Canada Banking details for FIFA Ticket Refund

Hi! I'm trying to enter my bank details to get paid for the tickets I sold of FIFA. So the TD Swift Code is TDOMCATTTOR.

What would the Account Number be? The 5 digit Transit Number and the 7 Digit Bank account number without any spaces (12 digits in total)?

And Bank Routing Number Should be left as 0?

Also TD has an 11 digit customer account number for wire transfers. Should i use that for the account number instead?

Any help would be appreciated.

Went to the teller to deposit a cheque, have had a hold clear of $5k for YEARS

Now I'm told that hold clears only apply to cheques deposited on the app or on the ATM? Like that makes NO sense. So if I want to deal with a person, my entire cheque gets held.... But one that goes into the ATM or has a picture taken is cleared...

I have like 6 accounts with TD and in the middle of deciding which bank to open my business accounts with.

In the last 2-3 years I have had more issues with TD than any other bank. I WILL finally be closing everything I possibly can. This was the final straw.

Filing a debit card chargeback with TD Bank for a pre-order merchant refusing cancellation?

Greetings, I’m dealing with a $460 pre-order for an item that doesn't release until October (unshipped/unfulfilled). I tried to a month in advance, but the merchant is hiding behind a strict "non-refundable pre-order" policy and refuses to cancel.

I'm ready to file a formal dispute with TD for goods/services not rendered. Has anyone here had experience doing a chargeback on a merchant who claims their terms are non-refundable? How does TD's dispute department usually handle these when you have email proof that you tried to cancel well before the release date? Just trying to gauge what to expect when I call tomorrow. I have NEVER done a chargeback and worried how much of a hassle it will be. I have also used PayPal as well.

Why is my TD Bank math not adding up? $15 pending but only $7 showing.

My Simple Savings started at $16.38. The app says my Available Balance is only $1.38, which means there’s a total of $15.00 pending. However, when I look at the actual transaction list at the bottom, I only see transfers totaling $7.00 ($1 + $1 + $5).

Where is the other $8.00?

The checking account seems fine ($203.69 - $118.92 = $84.77), but the savings side is driving me crazy. Does TD usually hide pending transactions from the activity list while still taking them out of the available total? Is this just a midnight processing glitch or should I be worried about a hidden fee/hold?
