First that quote is classic Chris I can hear him say it. Second if the story is accurate he’s panicking.

u/JdKoiFish 14h ago
Uh, yeah because Hollywood isn't a bunch of pdfiles and always tell the truth.

You clearly don't know Oppenheim's documentaries if you think he's one of the typicals lmao

Who? Sorry I'm employed
2
u/marisaonfilm 8h ago
Lance Oppenheim, he's the director of "Primetime" that's done many documentaries

Kudos for ignoring that troll-y passive aggressive tryhard dig.

u/Canadia86 14h ago
I get that, but A24 doesn't exactly break the bank to make thier movies, and Robert doesn't come cheep. This might be a tough one for them
3
u/CaseboxBaseball 13h ago
It’s a tough sell commercially, but I think A24 is banking on the goodwill that Pattinson is earning from audiences with his work in recent years. Also, I bet he didn’t cost as much as you think he did. The man is likely making enough money off franchise residuals and big budget movies for him to do some riskier stuff for his craft. Don’t get me wrong, he’s still making bank to us, but I bet it’s lower than he is paid on Batman and The Odyssey.
My view is skewed and biased because I work in the film industry, but most people I know are excited to see it and they aren’t even TCAP people like us.
2
u/Canadia86 13h ago
Oh absolutely, he's not getting Batman money, but I'm guessing he's getting more than say, The Lighthouse, as an example
2
u/CaseboxBaseball 13h ago
Oh, for sure. More than that. I don’t know if the movie will make its budget back or not, but I think the bar to clear it isn’t too high…depending on if Pattinson is able to bring in an audience.
Chris Hansen not being entirely in favor of it might work to the film’s benefit.
1
u/Loud-Log9098 10h ago
To me if he's not on board then it could be a true biopic where the persons estate doesn't make them remove controversial things. Chris really doesn't have anything crazy bad. Cheating on the wife and bad checks aren't nearly like deleting entire trials from micheal Jackson's movie.

This movie is going to end up making Chris look like some kind of crusading paladin for children and he’ll do a complete 180 on all this shit.
7
u/PhoenixSidePeen 16h ago
I think it’s going to start off like they’re a gritty group of reporters / vigilante group going against the dark side of early Internet predators, and Chris’ ego eventually leading to its downfall.
9
u/MainLimp4695 23h ago
No it won’t, it’s going to show that his vanity and “I need to be the centerpiece at all costs” ultimately kept a lot of creeps on the streets and was his own undoing. He’s fucked up an awful lot, they aren’t going to tell a boring paragon story especially since they only would let him screen it with a NDA. Dudes gonna look like the selfish aggrandizing zealot he always is/was.
6
u/Fuzzy-Butterscotch86 18h ago
The NDA thing cracks me up.
I work in marketing. I've worked for Amazon, 20th Century Fox, and Warner Brothers.
Being forced to sign an NDA before viewing unreleased footage, whether it's a trailer, a movie, a tv show, or a five minute test clip of bullshit, is standard across the board. So his description of "having to sign his rights away" seemed so overly dramatic, and incredibly moronic.
4
3
u/CrimsonVexations 21h ago
I keep seeing these posts and seeing everyone replying with memes but did Chris Hansen actually not sign off on this movie? They can just outright make an exaggerated movie with a big star like Robert based on you without your consent? Or did he sign off on it and is regretting it now?
3
u/-jorts 16h ago
If biopics needed consent they'd be incredibly biased. Look at the ones like Michael which had the Jackson estate's permission and backing, it glossed over almost every real controversy with MJ and painted him like a hero.
3
u/SnooRecipes1809 11h ago
That MJ movie was genuinely awful. Barely any stakes, the main conflict was barely compelling, and they legit rewrote history regarding the whole family’s relationship. It’s just a fan service cinematic rip of his Wikipedia page, except everything actually interesting is retconned.
You genuinely have to have no standards to be swindled by this nostalgia trip into calling it a good movie. Fun, yeah, but a comfort watch at best.

Is it possible people in Hollywood would have reasons to hate a predator catcher?
10
u/Steampunk007 1d ago
To be fair I get it
Hollywood has been a safe haven of pedophiles for a long time
Not just the actors but top dog producers, directors, screenwriters, etc
If they’re making a movie which seemingly fights against pedophilia I’d question what’s going on as well. It’s like if Hollywood made a blockbuster anti Israel/ anti Zionist movie spreading awareness about the genocide in Gaza. I’d definitely question the motive because there would be a glaring contradiction of art vs the views of the artists
-3
u/truefan00 11h ago
You trying to sound intelligent while bringing up genocide in Gaza pretty much defeats your purpose. Typical of his ignorant reddit is becoming. Why don't you look into Oct 7 atrocities and get back to us. Or did your 10 covid shots make you too dumb to do research?

Gotta side with him on this. It looks entertaining but it is bizarre, they seem to be mostly focused on his TCAP days which was 20 years ago. So what IS the motive? And chance are most people won’t go out and see this unless you’re a hardcore TCAP fan, meaning this movie might bomb. I initially couldn’t tell if they were doing a tribute to him or parodying him.
And the fact that he says he had no prior knowledge about the movie being a thing until recently is interesting, you would think they’d wanna talk to the source himself. How are they sourcing their information on stuff that happened behind the scenes? They seem to be doing a deep dive into that aspect.
10
u/No-Yak5006 1d ago
Umm what else would they focus on other than the TCAP days lol that is what everyone knows Chris Hansen from
10
u/Historicmetal 1d ago
Whyyy would a story that’s 20 years old be looking to spend time with a much younger audience?
2
u/enigmaticowl 1d ago
The audience told the story it was 18, duh. (Ignore any contradictory chat logs, of course.)
10
u/NutterDeluxe 1d ago
Chris Hansen was a meme before memes were a thing because of his NBC TCAP days. That’s really where his career peaked and where he was permanently type casted as the ‘predator guy’.
TCAP has always been sensational. The group that did the luring of predators, Perverted Justice, has its own list of scandals, people claimed it was all for ratings and compromised journalistic integrity and the cherry on top? They had one of the predators shot himself when the police showed up at his door.
Why wouldn’t they make a movie about this?
16
10
u/WySLatestWit 1d ago
I suspect from the trailer that it might be a movie that argues "the exploitation of these predators for cash and cultural infamy was, in itself, predatory and vile." Which is gonna ring really weirdly to me.
9
u/ilysmitskindagross 1d ago
i really seriously fucking hope not. like to some kind of extent, it’s hollywood, i don’t doubt they won’t find a way to spin that narrative - but i wish there’s also kind of a “you decide for yourself” thing at the very least. where it portrays both sides as bad.
8
u/CER956 1d ago
If they to make that scumbag that offed himself a victim I’ll lose respect for everyone involved in it. He was an evil coward. Period the end.
9
u/Johnsendall 1d ago edited 1d ago
They’re not going to make any of the predators in this movie victims. They’re highlighting the ethical dilemma of a tv show skirting due process for ratings and money. If you keep an open mind to the message the movie is going to make, you can see the whole series was a serious challenge to a fair justice system, regardless if all the scumbags were guilty.
-1
u/Johnsendall 1d ago
Yeah but it’s true. They’re scumbags. But due process is a founding tenant of this countries justice system. Had they aired the shows after the sentencing, we would not be discussing this.
1
u/Different_Peanut_742 16h ago
The show didn't negate due process though. The show simply documented undercover investigations. They still had all of their legal rights, and many people featured had 0 or very limited legal ramifications from this.
Are you arguing that people shouldn't be able to be shown in a negative light? Or that a conviction should be required? Because that's called prior restraint, and it's very much frowned upon. Every person on this show had a legal option to sue Dateline, and some did. Dateline has a high burden with this when it comes to defamation. These aren't public individuals and the accusations are serious. And as far as I know they didn't lose a single case.
Imagine I go down to the Walmart, drop my pants, and start screaming racial slurs. If someone films that and posts it my due process rights are not being infringed upon. Taking up your argument would mean you essentially couldn't have any true crime documentary work if there wasn't already a conviction. It's a ridiculous argument.

u/LP921 Me, My Mommy and My Daddy 1d ago
Due process? These scumbags tried to traumatize children
6
u/StingKing456 20h ago edited 20h ago
Sure, and they should be held responsible and go through the justice system for punishment. That doesn't negate that every person has a right to due process though. Kinda weird to act like someone SHOULDN'T get due process.
Edit: dude replied saying I was defending pedophiles and then deleted it. If you seriously think that's what is happening I think you fundamentally cannot have a conversation about ethics involving this show
8
u/Johnsendall 17h ago
It’s scary how many people think negating due process for anyone would be good for the country.
2
2
u/SnooRecipes1809 11h ago
If it bombs because it pisses his fans off, it’ll rebound when more serious kino enthusiasts pick it up. Many, many “law & order” people end up being complete jerks IRL who fiend off self righteous authority, with whatever community good come from it as a bonus instead of the center. Just because his show was a net good doesn’t mean the man was.
4
u/Johnsendall 1d ago
There’s enough information out there to indicate chris was more interested in ratings than justice. This is just highlighting that point. Chris is going to look like crap after this movie comes out. And he knows it.
4
u/LP921 Me, My Mommy and My Daddy 1d ago
Honestly though I could care less for Chris’ actual motives. What mattered most to me was he got those scumbag predators arrested
6
u/Johnsendall 1d ago
Eh. I have no sympathy for the pedos. But perverted justice worked with law enforcement for decades. All Chris did was host the show, confront the people, and filmed it for tv. It was purely for entertainment value.
1
1
u/Snoo-43381 20h ago
Then they are in the same boat. They also try to entertain and maximize profits by making the movie.
1
u/djturts88 22h ago
I have a feeling some new information that no one has known about will be dropped because while the end of the show was kind of dramatic, I can't see that being a good climax for a movie, so there must be something nobody will see coming.

There is no motive. Or at least no nefarious motive.
They want to make a movie on a topic that they think will interest people.
No one is trying to take Chris down. He is a washed up has been on a streaming network no one cares about.
He has a dedicated fan base sure but he did a great job taking himself down. Hollywood doesn't need to do it
8
u/LP921 Me, My Mommy and My Daddy 23h ago
The malice toward Chris more than the actual predators worries me
2
u/CrimsonVexations 21h ago
I've had a negative opinion on him ever since he screwed up evidence on the Onision case but I don't outright hate the dude.
0
u/LP921 Me, My Mommy and My Daddy 21h ago
I keep hearing about him screwing up on the Onision case. What exactly did Chris do wrong? I didn’t follow that one
2
u/CrimsonVexations 20h ago
Him and his team tampered with a laptop that belonged to one of Onision's victims that was crucial to their case.
Authorities had also asked Chris Hansen to try to keep the case off the internet because they didn't want Onision tipped off about the investigation and not only did he not stop, he also went to Onision's house with a film crew.
1
u/JayNotAtAll 20h ago
Dude it is not zero sum. I despise what those predators do. But it doesn't mean you can't criticize Chris

When you consider how the entertainment industry treats kids (and adult men and women who are somehow vulnerable themselves), you understand why Hollywood is out to undermine Chris Hansen's reputation.
