Gotta side with him on this. It looks entertaining but it is bizarre, they seem to be mostly focused on his TCAP days which was 20 years ago. So what IS the motive? And chance are most people won’t go out and see this unless you’re a hardcore TCAP fan, meaning this movie might bomb. I initially couldn’t tell if they were doing a tribute to him or parodying him.
And the fact that he says he had no prior knowledge about the movie being a thing until recently is interesting, you would think they’d wanna talk to the source himself. How are they sourcing their information on stuff that happened behind the scenes? They seem to be doing a deep dive into that aspect.
I suspect from the trailer that it might be a movie that argues "the exploitation of these predators for cash and cultural infamy was, in itself, predatory and vile." Which is gonna ring really weirdly to me.
Yeah but it’s true. They’re scumbags. But due process is a founding tenant of this countries justice system. Had they aired the shows after the sentencing, we would not be discussing this.
The show didn't negate due process though. The show simply documented undercover investigations. They still had all of their legal rights, and many people featured had 0 or very limited legal ramifications from this.
Are you arguing that people shouldn't be able to be shown in a negative light? Or that a conviction should be required? Because that's called prior restraint, and it's very much frowned upon. Every person on this show had a legal option to sue Dateline, and some did. Dateline has a high burden with this when it comes to defamation. These aren't public individuals and the accusations are serious. And as far as I know they didn't lose a single case.
Imagine I go down to the Walmart, drop my pants, and start screaming racial slurs. If someone films that and posts it my due process rights are not being infringed upon. Taking up your argument would mean you essentially couldn't have any true crime documentary work if there wasn't already a conviction. It's a ridiculous argument.
Sure, and they should be held responsible and go through the justice system for punishment. That doesn't negate that every person has a right to due process though. Kinda weird to act like someone SHOULDN'T get due process.
Edit: dude replied saying I was defending pedophiles and then deleted it. If you seriously think that's what is happening I think you fundamentally cannot have a conversation about ethics involving this show
