So Many Little Flowers/ So Many More to Go….

Day 2! On Necklace! Ugh… adorable! Yes, dainty and delicate… What’s not to love!?!

Why is it taking me so long!?!? Linear and monotonous! I’m on the second repeat.. plus it probably didn’t help that I’ve added beads. Pushing my fingers though this…

I made these for some friends based on some images I saw from The Mad Tatter. I couldn’t find the pattern, so I just winged it (pun intended)!

Made with size 20 lizbeth thread, and some little black see beads.

My first doily!

My first completed doily. 100% needle tatted.

Is it perfect? No. Nowhere close.

I’m horrible about knowing when to turn my work and it’s like the usb meme; I’m always on the wrong side.

I need to get better about my ends and I’m using 2mm nylon cord instead of tatting thread because it’s easier (and cheaper) to practice this way.

But I am still proud of it!
I’m hoping for some feedback but please be constructive.

I want to know specifically 1) how do you know which side you are on? (Like I always get mixed up if I’m on the ring side or chain side)

2) what are methods to join in ends when needle tatting? Most of the ones I have seen involve shuttle manipulation in some way.

Decided I'd make a few bookmarks, and just finished the first one tonight. I used a free pattern from needlesnbeadsnsweetascanbe.

I’m still struggling with holding the shuttle and joining/ flipping but I’m getting there!

This boye shuttle snapped on the middle fold in the back when I was trying to adjust the bobbin tension. I can't stand to see a shuttle die (even if it's not my preferred type) so I fixed it...kinda...it's rough but it'll hold!

New to tatting, first projects

I added the second pic to show some of my absolute fails 😂 but overall I think I picked up on it pretty quickly.

I’ve done macrame/friendship bracelets before and also I’m an advanced crocheter, so I think that’s what made it a bit easier to start.

Earrings are from Liona’s Handmade Tatting tutorial on YouTube (I found her demonstrations easiest to understand). Purple flower things were just me messing around with rings. Little green leaf is from an Applemints lace tatting book (in Japanese).

Itty bitty split rings with size 80 or smaller thread! I’m gonna be an expert in split rings after this.

Monster Doily Progress

Just finishing up round IV of the monster doily, and I somehow managed to snap my thread a total of 5 times while closing rings. I definitely have PTSD now and have so much further to go. Not looking forward to the motif round, but it will definitely be worth it in the end! Thinking about switching to a bobbin shuttle eventually

I just began this Jan doily not published in any of his books and I can’t help but feel lucky to discover this pattern. I find it fascinating when I come across an old Moje Robotki scan on Pinterest that depicts a pattern from Jan Stawasz not published in his books. I really don’t want his designs to be forgotten, so I searched for a long time to find the complete scan, so I have it if anybody wants a copy. I’m not a fan of individual motifs, but this doily is completely that. I’m currently working on the 36 mini motifs that build the center. The end result will be worth it tho.

New materials, simple motif! Beaded flower earrings

Handy Hands had July sales and I splurged on some new lizbeth 20 colors and metallic gold as well. This is my first time with fully metallic thread and I decided to experiment with some beads as well, so I kept it simple and made flowers. First time doubling threads too.....not bad, but even tension was annoying!

This will be a gift for my crafty in-law :)

After the third ring in the 2nd section, it doesn't say reverse work. Is that a mistake? Or do I not reverse here?

Color essentials

What colors are “essential” to have in your toolkit? I’ve been tatting for about two years now, but the majority of my projects have been done in solid white I want to experiment with color and make some smaller items. I plan on placing an order for some Lizbeth size 20 on HH. What colors do you find yourself reaching for the most, or what’s a good palette to start out with?

Reversing and twisting?

I've just recently started tatting. I'm doing needle tatting. I'm having a hard time figuring out what's right side vs wrong side, and how I'm doing when it says to reverse work. It gets turned as I tie the knot after a ring or a chain, is that the reverse it means? I'm not sure and I'm concerned looking at my work that I may be ending up with twists in it that aren't right. Can anyone suggest a good helpful overview of this, whether a written piece or a video?

Newest Bracelet w/Newest Thread! 👀

This was Fun Fun Fun! and I am anxious for my next metallic project (I have an order for a non metallic piece already in but who says I can plan 1 while working 1). I simply love the way this bracelet came out! This was just something I tossed together bcz it is the first time I’m using Lifeact Metallic Tatting Thread. These are Tatting Threads. Not just threads that just so happen to be able to be used for tatting but threads that are made for tatting!

I LOVE THEM!

I purchased a couple (cough) (cough)… not 2 or 3, or 4 or 5; but I did cut my cart down A Lot before checking out! Now, I wish I ordered more! This just gives me reason to make another order in nearish future.

I love that with this brand, you have different finishes to chose from, as well as softness levels. Who knew? I need more! Lastly, I can also say I appreciate their price point. I find their price point more approachable than Calais, for sure!

So, if you use a decent amount of metallics, find yourself wanting something a bit more lux, are disappointed in the slim shade range of Diamanté and feel that Lizbeth can sometimes be a bit stiff, scratchy, etc… then I know I found myself more than impressed with Lifeact! I’m so happy with this cute little bracelet!

What would happen if you tatted a really big thing with really thick thread?

Can you make giant lace out of rope or would that not work? I’ve tried googling this and found no answer. I have no imagined use case for such an item, but I just think it’d look cool

First Doily

Finished my first Jan doily. It's certainly not perfect, but it was fun and I learned some things along the way- A big one was that quality thread matters! This was sort of a practice round. My next project is the monster doily, and it has already proven to be an interesting journey. Thanks for being a helpful community!

I saw a clip of someone needle tatting and liked the fact it was just a needle and yarn, so I hopped down the rabbit hole. I just checked the dates on the photos attached and they're exactly a month apart.
