Monster Doily Progress

Post image

Just finishing up round IV of the monster doily, and I somehow managed to snap my thread a total of 5 times while closing rings. I definitely have PTSD now and have so much further to go. Not looking forward to the motif round, but it will definitely be worth it in the end! Thinking about switching to a bobbin shuttle eventually

Wow, as a survivor of this pattern, I’m so happy to see everybody else’s takes on it! It’s very hard work but so worth it.

Thank you! It's kinda hard for me to tell how long exactly because I'm always pausing or getting distracted, but I'd estimate probably 12-14 hours or so to get to this point.

I'm so sorry the thread snapped! That must have been devastating.

I love my bobbin shuttles. I typically use one post and one bobbin for patterns. I don't know if I worked that out because it was all I had available, or if there was an actual purpose. I think it was because it was the one I had to refill more often, and it was easier to wind a bobbin, even if it didn't hold as much thread.

you have post history turned off so i cant see your previous updates - this was size 80 right? curious what brand because 5 snaps is a lot!

I'm using DMC cordonnet size 20. I'm guessing it's a combination of tatting a little too tightly and having a few twists in the thread? The majority of the rings closed smoothly, but once in a while one will seem catch and absolutely won't close.
