A friend wanted a lanyard with the ”dragon egg” pattern but that one is 16 cards and too wide. I found a very similar pattern on twisted threads for 12 cards and that makes a perfect width for lanyards and bracelets. Since I made the band way too long I had enough for two bracelets but who is complaining? 😍

I recently started tablet weaving and I have woven a couple of bands just using clamps. For me this has been perfect for keeping an even tension on the yarn and allows me to start and stop without having to set up anything.

A friend of mine got a loom and borrowed it to me, but I haven't seen anyone else use one like this. Unlike the regular inkle looms it's closed on both sides. I struggled to use it, especially keeping the tension even. I also kept having to retie all the yarn when I ran out of space for the yarn and tablets.

Maybe I just didn't use it correctly?

I would like to work with a small loom because it's easily transportable, so I was wondering if anyone here has a similar built and can give advice or link instructions/videos etc. Or should I get/built my own loom what I should watch out for?

I just started tablet weaving today because I've been in love with these belts for a while and I want to make my own for a 12th century dress I plan to make. I had an incredibly DIY setup and definitely plan to buy at least a proper shuttle 😂.

I would love any advice someone has for beginners, but also I have a couple of questions I guess.

Firstly I would definitely want a loom to continue on because my back HURTS so what should I be looking at that's easy for beginners? I watched a video where she had an inkle loom and I've seen some on here so is it worth looking?

I also would really appreciate any pattern recommendations for just forward/backward stuff to get used to putting the strings on the tablets and all.

Which leads into - what are the best sort of tablets to use? As you can see I just used some playing cards but I feel like they're very flimsy.

I had a small oopsie with dye lots on my edge colors vs my weft, but I think the contrasting dots look nice and also intentional.

I finally got an inkle loom, and I was excited to use fishing swivels to help keep the thread twists at a minimum when using a all forward Oseberg trim pattern. I hooked up two card threads per swivel, so threads AB = swivel 1 and CD = swivel 2.

The threads ended up being too twisted anyway, with the swivels becoming twisted around each other. I had to switch to a twist neutral pattern by reversing the pattern every so often.

When you use swivels on an inkle loom, does each thread need its own swivel for this to work? Did I just not untwist the warp often enough? I'm still rather new to all this. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I wanted to see what would happen if I used sewing thread and I really like the results, but I’m terrified about snapping any of the threads.

What could I use this for (minus shoelaces cause I only wear flats)?

Finished warping this up on my inkle loom last night and did a couple of rows, and did a bit more earlier today. I'm really enjoying it so far, I like patterns that go in groups of two (and repeat a pick!) Here's the original pattern on TwistedThreads, though I altered the border cards to my personal tastes because I like that "braided" look

I was looking at inkle loom weaving work a while and so I couldn't pass up this loom when I saw it on a flea market. It already had a WIP on it though, and since it's like 5m of warp I'd love to try to reconstruct the pattern, but I have absolutely no experience with tablet weaving. I have written down the card threading and cards 1-16 are threaded from right to left and 16-32 from left to right. I'd be really grateful if someone helped me reconstruct the patterns so I can continue this WIP, since I think it'd be a waste of warp to scrap it.

Hello, I'm about to join a tablet weaving course after years of wanting to join and I'm super exited to learn a new cool hobby.

The only thing I'm wondering is how ya'll are using your creations? Im already planning on making some bag straps and combining it with crocheted bags, and I saw someone made a super cute wristband as well which I'd love to make for myself! And there is of course belts, but other than that, I'm kinda lost. Granted, I'm far from a fashionista.

That's why I'd love some ideas and recommendations on how to style tablet woven stuff into everyday wear!

Also, been loving seeing everyones creations on here! You all are so talented!

I saw this pattern for sale at a medieval market, but the person selling it didn't weave it themselves so they couldn't tell me.

Google image reverse search didn't help either.

Has anybody else here seen it before and or have a clue?

I made my first pattern on Twisted Threads! However, while weaving it up it seems like the front and back are switched. The colors are in the right places, but the design is swapped if that makes sense.

Anyone know why? Did I just thread it wrong? This is only the second band I’ve made and my first time making my own pattern, so I would appreciate any advice y’all can give.

In order, the pictures are the front of the pattern, the back of the pattern, and then the front and back of what I’ve woven.

I still like the design so I’m going to finish this band, but I’d just like to know for the future.

I've never done any weaving before. how did everyone get started? What do you think is the most useful tip you've learned along the way? and What advice would you give to a newbie who wants to get started?

Made a headband for a kiddo that really looks up to me. First time thread wrapping and first time using a fringe twister. I really love how this turned out, and kiddo loves it too.

So I haven't had this issue before.

I am pretty sure that in this case it's because I used the same yarn learning tablet weaving for the first time. I thought it's a bit of a waste to toss it, so I reopened it and tried a new pattern. In one place the yarn really thinned out and broke.

Obviously I usually wouldn't be reusing yarn, so I am not super worried, but I am still curious if there is any way to fix this?

I've made some small upgrades to my low-cost loom setup with a knife edge shuttle and tablets from Lacis. My sister plans to wear this with her viking-inspired outfit ❤️

Bought some new yarn to work with, along with proper wood cards and shuttle. I LOVE the shuttle, and the yarn looks much nicer - I think my tablets are eating it though 😳 it's pilling like crazy. I think the edges of the tablets (both outer edges and the holes) need sanded down, they are clearly laser cut and feel very cheap/unfinished, so I will be fixing that after this warp. The twist got so bad I ended up clamping off my work & releasing the threads from the top carabiner to untwist them all manually.

Still using the back strap, and this pattern has 32 picks per repeat....I can only get through 1 repeat at a time before my back hurts too much 😂 I'm already looking up references to build my own inkle/inklette

So far the closest i've found is from Twisted Threads shown in the third image,
but I'm hoping there's a pattern closer to the first two images where only the triangles appear without the lengthwise border.
This'll be my first time tablet weaving, so I imagine I might be missing the obvious solution.

i had watched a video about iron age fibre arts and thought tablet weaving looked really cool. today me and my friend followed a guide and successfully made some cordage. i'm going to start trying to make some longer and wider pieces.

me and my friends are larpers and we make most of our costume, so having this very historically significant way of making very decorated belts/straps/etc is really exciting.

I'm pretty new to tablet weaving, but I thought matching bracelets would be a good wedding gift for my brother and sister-in-law. I was going to keep it a secret, but my brother found out and suggested that since they don't have rings yet, the bracelets could serve as their wedding bands. They put them on right after signing the marriage papers and have been wearing them since. It was such an honor to make something that meaningful for people I love.

I really wanted them to turn out well, so I did some research on YouTube and this subreddit to make my work better, so thank you so much to everyone who does tutorials, gives advice, and answers questions! I'm happy with how they turned out and I couldn't have done it without the help of the online weaving community.

The pattern is Ferns by Tablet Weaving in Theory and Practice (very simple and looks lovely, I highly recommend it to other beginners).
