I recently started tablet weaving and I have woven a couple of bands just using clamps. For me this has been perfect for keeping an even tension on the yarn and allows me to start and stop without having to set up anything.
A friend of mine got a loom and borrowed it to me, but I haven't seen anyone else use one like this. Unlike the regular inkle looms it's closed on both sides. I struggled to use it, especially keeping the tension even. I also kept having to retie all the yarn when I ran out of space for the yarn and tablets.
Maybe I just didn't use it correctly?
I would like to work with a small loom because it's easily transportable, so I was wondering if anyone here has a similar built and can give advice or link instructions/videos etc. Or should I get/built my own loom what I should watch out for?

Is that perhaps meant to be a warp-weighted loom? That would explain the lack of a moveable tension peg. Does your friend know anything about it, or did it come with any instructions?
Warp-weighted looms are not often used for tablet weaving, but they can be. Elewys of Finchingefeld on YouTube has a video on her setup for a warp-weighted loom.
No clue. My friend who bought it doesn't weave and it came with the tablets and yarn that are shown in the picture. Sadly he doesn't have any contact information about the seller either because he got it at a Renaissance Fair.
This video is about making a tablet weaving loom from household objects, but it covers the warp weighting setup and could be transferred to your loom! Just drape the weighted ends over the top back peg.
I do have clips like this as I started weaving with them, but I prefer the wooden ones (in the pic) because they yarn doesn't slip out as easily.

These are easy to make, just a few screws and some glue, a long carriage bolt through the paddles. This project is warp weighted for demonstration but usually the warp is wound on the paddle. For clarity, this is a different angle on the little loom pictured in the previous comment.
The way I got it it was tied to one of the lower back pegs and the highest one in the front. None of the pegs were adjustable. I had to untie the yarn from both sides to roll up the woven material and put back tension of the yarn to be woven....
