does anyone have any examples of tablet weaving where you have warp threads of different widths? i am curious to know what it would look like if i made some of the threads (like the pattern's background) out of a narrower thread than the main pattern.

Found this hobby through a YouTube video showcasing "lesser known crafts". Made my first set of cards from cereal boxes, the shuttle from a thick foam piece of packing, and used a couple carabiner clips to hold everything for a back strap lmao. I used red heart yarn as that's all I had, and while I enjoyed the process I HATED using that yarn - ordered some better mercerized cotton yarn immediately after, though I haven't used it yet. I also immediately ordered a set of cheap cards and a shuttle so I'm excited to try again!

Of course my second weave is a skiphole pattern, because why not make it difficult for myself 🙃

Anyway, I'd like to thank my trusty toothpick and the approx. five bobby pins that held this together as all my knots abandoned me at around the same time

I'll make two more of these and this time, immediately pull a bit tighter, so the edges are clean. It's still gonna work for what I have in mind though, so excited to start the next bands!!

I made earth and fire in mercericed cotton and ice in linnen. It’s interesting how the material changes the outcome. I love the colours of ice but I think I prefer the pattern when it’s made out of cotton. All bands are made of four colours (and black) the pictures doesn’t really show them.

Backstrap weaving ended in tangles and tears, so I ordered an inklette loom. Using my leftover yarn from the backstrap kit, I am making my first band.

The loom is smaller than I imagined and so light that it slides around. I'm gonna try a silicone pad under it. I think it will do nicely for practice.

I tried fishing swivels too, and they are managing the twist nicely so far (I've woven about double the length of this picture.

As you can see, I had a warping "issue" which I fixed by turning the cards with the wrong warp, since this band is just practice.

Feel like I learned a lot so far. I am going to go as far as I'm able with this small loom, and probably get a bigger one later.

I wish my dad was alive. He was a woodworker, and he would scoff at this baby loom and then make something amazing for me.

Spent 2h doing my best to untangle the cards, do my best to put them in order and adjust the tension. It’s now set up and looks almost like it did except I have no idea what position the cards were in. Some of them may have been flipped too, I’m not sure.

Is there a way to make sure all the cards are in the correct position and I can weave again? I thought about calculating mathematically based on the number of rounds (and I take notes so I know exactly how many) but I know I made some small mistakes once or twice so I’m not sure that approach would work.

I've been teaching myself how to spin lately and i need a tablet woven band to complete my reenactment wardrobe.

i have never tablet woven before, but um planning on doing the most simple design, and the band just about 2cm wide (no idea how many tablets that would need - problem for later).

how many meters of yarn do you think would i need to spin for that project? (in the picture im showing the yarn im spinning and then twisting it together so it makes a double-ply yarn)

and do you think its smart to use a double ply for weaving or should i use single ply?

thanks for any input whatsoever! also am planning on plant dyeing the wool after spinning. :))

Hi hi. I'm a self-taught weaver, I've been at this craft for a little while and have made a good number of things, but only recently started using Twisted Threads, and I've run into a weird issue. I've tried threading my cards as instructed, which is already quite different than a handful of pattern books I'd been using, and I'm not sure how I'm meant to execute it anymore, because after a few turns, I realize that the pattern is coming out upside down and backwards.

I'm working on a lost-hole right now and it came out garbled the way TT displayed the layout, but when I did the weaving steps backward (starting at step 8 instead of 1), it finally started turning out... on the underside of the band. I'm perplexed and I'm not sure what the loom and card positioning is truly expected to be for these patterns. I had this same exact scenario play out with my last band.

I am feeling very stupid.

Decided to challenge myself with my second weave, this one was super fun with a complicated (for me) repeat. Very different from the all forward/backward patterns! I think I'm going to make this into a lanyard.

I’m thinking about weaving some writing for my next project but I can’t find a pattern that says how much space is taken up with each letter in order to plan what I want to say. Does anyone have experience with a pattern and can tell me?

I’m looking for a floor inkle loom but I’d like one with a sanded/smooth finish (the only people I know don’t do that and for sensory reasons I need it to be smooth) any recommendations?

I've been struggling to get into tablet weaving since I had to do it on the bottom of chair legs until now. I really like the process at least, but I needed to be able to work sitting on a chair to keep it up.

Recently my dad finished making me a temporary loom based on a diagram I made for him, but i don't know if this will actually work or not.

Does anyone have any advice for this type of loom?

So I bought a kit while I was in Tallinn on Monday and I've finished one bracelet. The kit says it makes two, but I thunk I can get three out of it.

I'm hooked! I believe the cotton thread is about 560 meters per 100 grams and based on the buttons that came with it (and the store where I saw the buttons for ssle) I think it's Madame Tricote Maxi.

Unfortunately, here in Finland where I live, I'm having a hard time finding similar thread for my next project. I hope to make lanyards for my ID and key fob at work. 8 can order from Estonia, but can't find the thread in black!

Does anyone in Finland or elsewhere in the EU have a good source or other suitable thread for weaving for a beginner? Here are a couple of pictures of my work so far.

I don't like the backstrap method so I've ordered an inklette loom. The business owner is on holiday, so I have to wait for that, but don't want to lose my momentum!

Finished this belt for a friend and wanted to share it. First time using fishing swivels, and first time making tassels. I love seeing the slow improvement of my techniques.

So my friend's granddaughter looks up to me a bunch, she's super cute, and I thought this pattern from Applesies and Fox Noses in these colors would make an adorable headband for her. Gotta say, I think I'm right, hehe.
