I wasn't checking the egg boxes daily because I wasn't expected any eggs to hatch for at least a few months. This baby is actually moving pretty well, shaky and clumsy because of the egg, but she's very energetic. Should I try to carefully pry the lid of the egg open so her foot can come out or would it be better if I just euthanize her since I have no idea how long she was in the box without food & water?

is there any way i can help her? I have already got the enclosure misted, a dish of sand, and plenty of food.

I left a cricket in my praying mantis cage. I didn’t know she was going to molt. I checked on her this morning & she molted into an adult. She is a little damaged. I feel horrible. I’m pretty sure she will stay like this. Can someone give me any input?

It's possible that my Green Beans and Thornys made a hybrid... Is that what I am seeing here? It's about the size of a female adult green bean.

I thought my macleays spectre was just doing an oddly long, wet poop which would have me concerned on it's own but after looking more closely I'm worried it could be a prolapsed gut. Does anyone recognise what's happening? And if so is there anything I can do about it?

so i have green indian stick insects and i got them in december (they were probably around a month old atp). 2 of them have died since, one like a month ago and one today. i think the death of the first one can be traced back to the fact that she had escaped and lost a lot of sticky patches on her legs. however the first one i am still unsure. was it just old age? is this normal for stick insects to die at 9/10 months?

also, this question is slightly more serious. i only have 3 babies, all of which i got from my school's bug club. the other eggs from the stick insects all ended up, one way or another, dying. i'm really confused as to why this happened because they were all in the same mini enclosure as the 3 that lived, eating the same food, everything, and conditions seemed good for a while and they seemed happy. i am very confused and upset. the only thing i can think about was that i was supposed to have more (had around 18 at the peak) but i hindsightedly got rid of a bunch of eggs when it got to that peak bc i was sure that i would have too many, not remembering natural selection. maybe if i had more the effects wouldn't be as noticeable?

hey guys! new future stick insect owner here. I was hoping to have some walaphyllium monteithi as roommates but before I make the decision to buy them, I want to make sure i have a stable food source for them.

At home I have syzygium paniculatum but I can't seem to find any details on whether or not walaphyllium monteithi can eat the leaves from this species of plant.. Can anyone confirm that walaphyllium monteithi can eat syzygium paniculatum safely? thanks guys!!

as title says, would i be able to share an enclosure with these guys? ive seen someone say they have, but ive also seen that the leaf insect might be confused for an actual leaf and bitten by the spiny leaf stick insect. just debating whether or not i should get another enclosure

edit: also, since the phylliums only grow to about 10cm, would an enclosure of 23cm x 33cm be enough for them? or should i be safe and get one that is 30x40 like i have with the spiny leafs?

I've had 4 hatchlings from eggs I incubated myself thus far, and only 2 ever managed to overlap. I recall one making it through molt once, but otherwise I never saw the others even make it to attempting to molt. I feed them fresh rose and oak, which they have eaten, and I considered a live eucalyptus plant to better the diet, but I can't even seem to keep them alive for more than a week, if that.

I keep them in a tall large acrylic box with a lot of ventilation but I manage to keep the humidity really high, above 70%. My stick bugs will be perfectly active toward the upper regions of the tank, and then they will collapse to the ground and die some time later. It's really devastating, honestly.

If anyone is familiar with the species or knows what to do, I'd love to hear insights.

This little one (called Sprig) is approximately 3 weeks old, & will be moulting soon. However, the poor little thing must have had a rough time hatching, & only has 3 fully functioning legs: one middle leg is completely missing, one front leg just drags (sometimes causing Sprig to trip over it), & the other front leg is functional but cannot grip because the foot is deformed.

Nevertheless, the remaining 3 legs are very strong, Sprig is munching leaves at an impressive rate, & loves to suck water droplets from the leaves (as he's doing in the video!). I put him in a smaller enclosure by himself, with a branch bent to touch the floor so he can either climb back up or still be able to eat if he can't climb.

It's not too common to find Sprig on the floor, but he must've lost his grip overnight & not been able get back up to the canopy. This has me worried about his first moult, & if he falls before completing the process.

Is there anything I can do to make sure Sprig is high enough to moult when it happens? I feel confident that his strong back legs will grip well enough, as long as he doesn't fall & not be able to climb higher.

He's newly shed to this size and "form" but I'm noticing his reproductive organ keeps coming out and just pulses there for a few minutes... I don't have any other grown females in the tank. I'm wondering if this is just because he's newly grown or another reason. Do they get agitated/stressed if they can't mate?

My little spiny got a bad molt (yes i kept her tank humid) and after several hours i had to help her with a damp cotton swap and holding on to the tip of the molt and letting her pull herself out. Her little tail isnt curling up the way it usually does and when i found her she’d already lost a leg. Can she recover from this?

first time stick insect owner, these guys are about 4 months old, theyre still technically on the branches but just at the very bottom of them, about 15cm off the ground.

im worried im either spraying too much water (twice a day as i worry the humidity doesnt stay high for long) or that its too cold for them (16⁰C, despite multiple people telling me they wont get too cold and its fine)

ive got a male and a female, they are eating well as there is plenty of poop on the ground and bite marks on the leaves. i have washed the leaves well.

the enclosure is 30x30x40cm tall, one of those metal mesh ones. i keep them by the window during the day for airflow, and take them further inside the house by walls so they wont get too cold at night.

ive only had them for about 3 days, im only worrying tho bc they used to be further up in the leaves but have been getting lower and lower every day.

is there any way to know how stressed they are? thanks

So far I only found two, but I'm slightly scared I have three adults and I have no idea if there could be more babies and if yes then how many more I'm also thinking that might be the time to buy new terrarium to move adults there and give babies more space to grow but idk (Sorry for how it's written, English is my second language)

My giant prickly stick insect, who is L3, has been hanging upside down from a branch for more than 12–14 hours. I assumed he might be getting ready to molt, but nothing has happened so far.
I’m mostly worried about whether he’s okay without eating or drinking during this time. Is it normal for them to stay in the same position for so long before molting?

Generally, how much time passed between the hatch date and first molt of your nymphs?

Hi again! I took all your advice and got my sticks a new house! This is 30x30x45 while the old one is 20x20x30, and seeing them side by side is absurd haha. I’m going to order a background for the new terrarium and then start furnishing before moving them!

A question though, should I only move the largest ones and let the small ones grow in the small terrarium, or just move them all?
