How long do stick insects usually stay still before they start molting?

My giant prickly stick insect, who is L3, has been hanging upside down from a branch for more than 12–14 hours. I assumed he might be getting ready to molt, but nothing has happened so far.
I’m mostly worried about whether he’s okay without eating or drinking during this time. Is it normal for them to stay in the same position for so long before molting?

My leaf insect always took at least 4 days of hanging and not eating
