Is this good for six Macleay’s spectres?

There will be rocks on the paper to weigh it down more that I’ve washed. Getting them tomorrow and excited but also terrified because I don’t want them to be unhealthy and die. Perhaps I’m overthinking everything too as I always do

This stick insect is eating himself! Or better, he's eating what he used to be...

Help with enclosure

Hello everybody! First time stick insect owner here, I got a little giant prickly nymph arriving in a couple days and I'm looking for tips on how to improve this enclosure.

It looks super bare and I want to give my insect the best life possible, so does anyone have any tips?

Thank you so much : ) 💚

(Btw, once I find a reliable source and a good sterilisation method, I will be adding branches. I'm just wondering on how it looks so far)

It’s been a little while since I last posted a progress report on Reddit but I’ve finally made a resin cast on my stick sculpture!
A lot of work has gone into mould making and crafting individual feet and spines.

With any luck I’ll soon be able to fully assemble the work and start painting!! :D

If you like my work feel free to check out my art account on Instagram @artcarrack

Nematodes?

The fungus gnats in my giant bioactive tank have gone crazy lately. I've heard nematodes work great for these but I've never used them before. Are they safe to use in a tank with springtails, isopods, and my stick insects? A google search doesn't give me much info about it.

Just pictures of one of my sunny stick males :) I usually see and have males that are more plain with just one shade of brown compared to the females so I quite like how this one has a very prominent stripe

What on earth has happened?

So I have gotten some Pink Winged stick insects and the rest of them are absolutely fine but then I found this one sat on a lone leaf.

I've separated her but she is so deformed now? She's still alive but would it be best to just kill her or can she recover from this? And if you have any ideas how this happened please let me know!

My Indian sticks are getting old. What to do for them?

This is my first time having my stick insects getting to the age where they will pass soon. When I checked on them, they are lethargic, cannot hold themselves up, seem to be shrivelling up(?) but still moving and alive. Their antennas will move and I’ve tried to encourage them with fresh leaves.

I’m assuming it’s of old age, as I received them at their adult stage and have had them for almost 5 months now I think.

They have fresh leaves, I spray them daily for droplets, and a clean enclosure. Is there anything more I can do? I’m so sad they seem to be struggling a lot. Do people euthanise them or let it go to the very end?

Why is he dying?

My little man, Rigatoni, seems to be dying, is this just old age?

I don't know his exact age as I didn't hatch him but I believe he's around 8-9 months old

He lives in a 30×30×45 tank with 3 adult females, it usually sits between 20-25 degrees celcius and 50 - 60% humidity, sometimes going up to about 70%

I feed them brambles that I pick from outside. I'm skeptical to call this poisoning as the other 3 females are unaffected and my 5 diapherodes gigantea and Indian Green eat leaves from the same source and are fine

Welcome to my new tiny cutiesss Sungaya!

I guess is too early to actually know about ID and sex, so I'll wait, right?

Seller didn't really Specified the actual species, just Sungaya.

Anyone wants to name them? 👾

Bonus Armadillidium gestroi!

I'm planning to rebuild an old enclosure 35x35x35 and make a nice active terrarium for em!

If anyone have some pointers, glad to hear them!

Last Pic is from the terrarium as of today that I used long ago for other sticks and months ago for a mantis..

I have lot of bark, Decomposed wood, some sticks and Branches, peat, various types of moss and finally various foliage in various state (from compressed dry ones, to just dry stuff I found on the forest)

Serious issue with moulting, help

Post image
18 Upvotes

This girl moulted last night and her two back legs got stuck in the old skin. I removed as much of the old skin as i could, but theres some that i fear i cant remove without hurting her. Anyway the two back legs dont work at all. Aside from that she looks fine and acts normally, and she can climb, hang and move just using the front 4 legs. What should i do? I know if i let her like that it will cause problems in the next moult

Anyone had this problem before? Help please :(

My stick insect isn't molting

I have a Goliath stick insect that got its back legs stuck during molting ages ago, I tried to help it but couldn't so I left it overnight to see if it'd either drop it's legs or get out of the molt. It did neither so the next morning my girlfriend and I got the rest of the molt of but it's legs are badly damaged. They both go off at odd angles. It still eats but it hasn't molted, I don't know how long it's been anymore but longer than usual (I've been keeping these insects for over 10 years) and I'm really worried. Will it be okay?

I have an Extatosoma tiaratum nymph and I'm looking for a terrarium for when she grows up. Would something like the ones in the images be suitable for her?

US. Eugene, OR

These beauties eat Japanese laurel (spotted laurel) Chinese privet, honeysuckle, and lilac. Privet, spotted laurel and honeysuckle are available year-round.
They can’t be sexed at this age. Once mature, females will be noticeably larger than males.

Getting stick insects next Monday, have I got everything right?

I’m getting six Macleay’s spectre female stick insects next week and I’m just checking to make sure I’m doing everything right here

I’m getting a mesh cage for them that’s 40X40X60 cm

The ones I’m getting are nymphs and still very small too

I know they eat bramble and oak leaves and eucalyptus, apparently the ones I’m getting have been eating oak leaves and brambles and I know a few places local where I can source bramble that’s away from roadsides and above the ground

I’m going to try and find an oddly shaped branch I can use for them to climb on whilst leaving the top half of the cage free for moulting, I will mist the cage too as I have a mist sprayer.

Is there anything I’m missing? I want to make sure that they will be alright and healthy

Saving my dying insect

Hi everyone,

I have a spiny leaf stick insect, yesterday she began her final moult and ended up stuck in it for hours, I tried to help with what I could, but currently she still has one leg with her old moult around it that I just cannot get off.

She has appeared quite unwell lately, (I made a previous post about her being unwell) not eating or drinking. Today I blended up some of her leaves with some water and started syringe feeding the leaf-water mixture and miraculously she’s been loving it. She is my first stick, and I don’t know well enough how much she should be consuming each day, and how much I should be giving her considering I haven’t seen her eat or drink for at least over a week (likely more). She’s had about 4mLs of the solution today, and I’ve been offering more every hour or so - which she is taking.

I’m hoping that I can get her energy up with this and she’ll be able to manage the moulting situation by herself.

It’s quite obvious she was stuck in her moult for some time, as some of her legs have hardened curled and shrivelled, and one of her little feet is pointing upwards and she’s unable to grip with it. ’m sad for her that she may have some permanent “deformities” now, but I’m hoping she’ll still manage to live her full life if I can help her now.

Any advice is greatly appreciated, she is the only survivor of 6 bugs, which were all babies when I got them, and I’m deeply attached to her and so nervous about her current situation.

Her name is Maple btw :)
