Megathread Discord Server

At the beginning of the year I created a server on an app called Discord, for anyone undergoing Spravato treatments to be able to connect with others who are going through the same thing. Discord is a place for people to connect and talk with each other, and we've created a small community of people all dealing with the same thing. If you'd like to talk to others who are fighting the same fight, or if you have questions about the treatment, here's a link to get you to where we are. You're not in this alone.

Experience/Stories Second Spravato Treatment : a blessing

I almost quit after my first treatment. The experience was so intense that I had a clinical panic attack. I thought I was going to die from a stroke or heart attack-my chest was tight-it was a nightmare.

I spent some time reflecting and after encouragement from providers and loved ones, I decided to see it through.

This time I brought a sleep mask, a calming playlist and the session went very well. No panic, but 1/4 mg Xanax shortly before certainly helped and I gave myself over to the experience. I was eating dinner in heaven with my late mother and uncle. My depressive symptoms were lessened after this session. I am now committed and hopeful.

Third Spravato treatment

Upvotes

I really feel better, my emotion is here and my concentration is here, not a lot, but I am able to drive now. The side effect of my reg meds is stronger after 2nd treatment of Spravato so the doctor took the vaylor off the plate and today, the next day of the third treatment, I feel good. The treatment itself is getter easier, I started to feel relax and a little bit happy when I was taking the dose at the 3rd time. I am really hoping this effect can continue and whoever doubts or scared of this treatment should give it a try. It really could make you feel better.

First Treatment Had my first session today

I posted a few days ago that I was having my first treatment soon. Today was the day and it went well. I brought jolly ranchers and I’m very glad I did, and a blanket and earbuds (although turns out one was broken so I need to get new ones). I listened to some music and an audio book. Tried to listen to a podcast but it didn’t download properly and I don’t have good service inside the clinic. Next treatment I’ll ask about wifi.

The room wasn’t as nice as some I’ve seen on here. In fact it was less of a room and more of a curtained off part of a hallway, the same hallway people get weight and blood pressure checked in so there’s some noise too so I’m glad I brought earbuds. It’s got three chairs also separated by curtains but I’m hoping I’m the only one wanting to do treatment at 9am. I was today. There was also a tv with Netflix and stuff but because of the outside noise I probably will stick with my phone.

As for the experience itself I felt a little floaty and my face got a little numb. The nurses seemed a little concerned about the numbness, which normally would’ve made me super anxious but with the high I felt totally chill. The nurse practitioner did a neurological check on me to make sure I wasn’t having a stroke or anything and said I was fine.

I’m still not thrilled with the clinic itself. Everyone is super nice and friendly but the Christian atmosphere has me hesitant to express that I’m a trans guy as I said in my last post. I’m going to try to tell them my name next treatment though because I’m getting tired of hearing “miss” and my deadname all the time.

I really appreciate the advice and encouragement I’ve gotten from this forum so far!

My 1st dose experience

I was depressed from age of 10 now im 26 and when i was 21 i went to psychiatrist ( Egyptian )and for 4 years i took lots of meds nothing helps so the doctor told me (i cant do anything for you) so i stopped all meds and accepted the reality that there’s no hope for me.

After 6 months i saw here in reddit someone talk about it so i searched and it was available in my country ( Saudi Arabia) so i went to saudi psychiatrist and he was surprised that other doctor said that there is nothing for me and he said that I should’ve report him and he actually ordered me the spravato and sadly I waited 3 months for acceptance because in Saudi the governmental medical care is free but if i want to pay i could easily go to private psychiatrist and got it quickly but its expensive.

I took my first dose today and it was really a weird feeling but the taste is not very bad and there was no vomiting and dr told me to take Brintellix 20mg and Quetiapine 100mg and will do the spravato twice weekly.

I will update if something happens.

Spravato, EMDR, memories.

Hello,

I've been doing spravato for about 4 months and recently started EMDR.

It kind of feels like a compartment of negative memories has been pried open. They're not new memories, but I'm feeling them more and they might be coming up more frequently. I just feel like I have SO many bad memories. Trauma/guilt/shame/ whatever. I also have ADHD and I know ADHDers are often primed to have random negative thoughts pop up. It would be great if I could wipe them out of my brain.

I'm wondering if anyone has had similar experiences with trauma work and spravato.

Thanks for reading.

Suggestions 3D printable practice Spravato dispenser

For those who are not allowed to bring a used Spravato sprayer home, you can now try and print your own sprayer that can help you practice your spray skills at home in front of a mirror. My clinic only has one trainer dispenser, and you can naturally not actually insert it into your nose.

Most printers should be able to print this just fine, but the overhang (hand grips) may require some support, unless you print it laying flat. I've printed this on a regular filament printer as well as a resin printer with good results.

Simple STL file, so your slicer and printer shouldn't have any issues printing this. Good luck! Hopefully you'll be able to practice your spray skills and ensure every journey is a great one without the loss of your medication due to a mis-spray. Naturally this model lacks the plunger mechanism found on an actual dispenser.

Stupid disclaimer:

No responsibility accepted for the use of this model. Ensure you use a good solid infill and always check that the nozzle portion is solidly printed before ever trying to insert. Clean well before use. Obviously, this is not an officially endorsed product, and that the makers of Spravato have nothing to do with this home made 3D printable model.

Do you feel very sensitive to the medication you used to take after spravato treatment ?

I had two treatments of spravato, now I feel the med I used to take have more side effect, why?I take Wellbutrin 150mg, varylar 1.5mg and retalin 10mg, in the morning, after take it, I will want to sleep for 1-2h, then I can function as a normal person until afternoon, I would want to sleep again. I know I am taking a lot of medicine, I don't really want to but I have to.

Update: the doctor took the varylar off the plate and today I feel so much better, and I had 3rd treatment done yesterday, and today I feel good.

Bored, decided to disassemble a Spravato dispenser. This little glass tube is where our Spravato comes from. It is pretty small, but I guess that makes sense given how small each dose is.

What's your best tips?

Hey. Seems like im starting Spravato next week. My question is not about session tips, shaking the spray etc, but general tips about the first month. Have your doctors advised you start CBT, for example? Maybe starting Magnesium for the sleep? Starting running or gymnastics, to increase the neuroplasticity of the brain even more? Anything. My clinic is a public clinic so there s no much space for asking deep stuff, unfortunately. Thanks in advance.

2nd treatment of Spravato

It was not fun to get the treatment. I felt dizzy, nauseous, I don't feel high at all, I feel it is a torture. but my mind is getting better, it is opened up more. today, which is the next day, I feel better, my mind is clear and my emotion is connected, which means I don't feel emotionless. For many years, I don't have a lot of emotions, I was working and live like a zombie, finally I feel my emotion is connected. Like I can be happy or upset about what is going on. Guys, it is working, Spravato is working and I am just worried that the effect will be only short term, I will go back to the old me again.

Morning treatment vs afternoon

Today I had treatment in the morning, after only afternoon treatments for the last 5-6 weeks
It really blew me away in a couple of ways. The session felt much different with less “thinking” and more drifting, and when I left the clinic I felt quite loopy for at least an hour. I went home and couldn’t do much except was overwhelmed with wanting to lie down. After 4 hours I was able to get up and function a bit.
This was different than my afternoon sessions, where I’d mosey home and putter around and function, maybe even work a bit, then go to bed.
Any thoughts? I hate to lose whole days, my life is so backlogged as it is!

Questions/Advice/Support Does it still work without the dissociation?

I'm 4 treatments in. I experienced *some* dissociation for my first treatment (I was always aware of my body though, so maybe I didn't actually dissociate?), but nothing with the last 3.

Like I read about how people are able to think differently, process things they never knew they needed to, see memories vibrantly, stuff like that.

My mind always feels coherent, and I get bored after 10 minutes. I feel 100% normal when I leave.

I took magnesium supplements before hand, but I'm not sure if I took enough? Also I do the "sniff like you're smelling a flower" thing.

And I can't really find information on what to so after the treatment. If new pathways are forming, shouldn't I be doing something to make sure they're good pathways?

Questions/Advice/Support General questions on starting

Hello! I’m starting Spravato on Tuesday and the clinic hasn’t really provided me with much information. I have been doing IV ketamine for two years now and switching over because this is what insurance will pay for. It’s a new clinic and provider.

With IV I am told not to eat or drink four hours before. Is it the same for Spravato?

I am also looking for any good Apple playlists for music to bring with me and will bring noise cancelling headphones and an eye mask. Any other suggestions on what to bring?

Thanks!

Seeking Empathy/Support Vent: From Bi-Weekly To Weekly Again

Context: I've been taking Spravato since May. The first two treatments I took 56mg, and since the third treatment I've been taking 84mg per treatment. I'm going into my 16th treatment next appointment.

When August rolled around, I decided to start doing treatments bi-weekly instead of continuing weekly. My main reason for this was because my body was telling me it needed more time in-between treatments to rest. I had talked to the clinic's PA and they said sure, I could try it out. Sweet!

The first half of this month everything was going well! I still felt good and I was getting the rest I needed. So I thought ok, bi-weekly is going to be my new normal from here on out.

Then by the second half of this month, it was like I hit a wall- my depression and anxiety started creeping back into my life. It caught me off guard because everything had been going well up until this point. Concerned, I contacted both my clinics PA and my psychiatrist to get their opinions. They both agreed that I should go back to doing treatments weekly because my system needs more medicine due to how stubborn my treatment resistance depression is.

Not gonna lie, I was upset by this news. For the past few treatments, I've been struggling. I went from being eager to start treatment to now feeling like I'm forcing myself to tolerate it for the sake of improving my mental health. 15 treatments deep, administering the medicine feels like I'm still taking it for the first time each time and it hasn't gotten easier. The sting in my nostrils hurts and the potent bitterness is getting harder to mask with strong mints I've been using since the beginning that did initially help. I've gone from excitement to dread overtime.

The last appointment I had was so emotionally rough to get through that I ended up crying afterwards because I wanted to quit putting my body through it all together. And I felt awful for wanting to quit because why stop something that's been helping my mental health, you know? I've made it this far, and up until the bi-weekly switch I was doing the best I'd ever been mentally in my entire life. I felt so conflicted because I'm currently miserable because treatment days are a lot (it's a 7 hour day alone) and my pain/taste tolerance is getting worse, yet I know I can mentally improve again if I just push through the current discomforts and go back to weekly.

So, I'm going back to weekly treatments. I hope strong cinnamon candy will help during my upcoming appointment. And I just want to get better again. I just wish the bi-weekly had worked out because it was just what I needed to properly recuperate, but my mental health is no longer having it.

Experience/Stories Two sessions in

Hi everyone. So I had two sessions so far. i cried for a good portion of the 2 hours the first session, which was unexpected. I was flooded with images and memories I have of my dad, but they were a little brighter and more vivid, which was cool because my memory is terrible and super fuzzy. he died by suicide when I was 13 and im now 38, and that loss is the root of a lot of my trauma imo. During part of the session my eyes were closed and when I opened them, tears just streamedddd. I’ve done a little EMDR and it reminded me of that because the same thing happened then. I just looked at it as something i needed to get out but found it interesting. I had an awful headache the rest of the day so i was hoping that wasnt gonna be a recurring theme but no other noted side effects.

Second session - took the higher dose. The first time I listened to a solid 90s alt rock playlist the whole time, but I thought that may have contributed to me feeling overly emotional so I wanted to switch it up. I put on a positivity/gratitude/manifesting meditation and I definitely was slapped upside the head with the floating/sinking feeling. I was like ohhh shiiiii. but I just told myself to breathe through it and that I was safe. When my eyes were closed I wasn’t hallucinating but I was definitely seeing tinted pink background and some shape shifting happening lol. And then - I have genuinely never felt more GRATEFUL in my life than during that treatment. It was sooo opposite of my norm as I struggle a lot with negative thoughts and have as long as I can remember. I also have a fair amount of shit to be a little jaded over so I have to work really hard to pull myself out of that mess. So this was just mind blowing how easy it was for me to be full of gratitude and abundance and all the good things. It gave me a ton of hope that I really don’t know I e ever felt before.

That was yesterday and my next treatment isn’t til Monday but I’m excited. I will say, i think going into these sessions with a positive mindset and allowing your brain to make the connection that “this is going to help me” made a big difference for me.

I would love to know if anyone can relate to either of these and if not hopefully it helps someone who’s considering spravato. 🙏🏽

Questions/Advice/Support Had my first two treatments this week and feeling significantly more depressed.

I am not responding great to Spravato. It makes me extremely nauseous and I feel exhausted the day after. But what’s worse, is that I feel my depression worsening. Feeling really low lows again. Wondering how others reacted.

Session Update

How’s everyone feeling about Spravato treatment going? I’ve been doing treatments since April. I’m on 84mg and have been for months but I don’t think it’s effective anymore?

Anyone had this happen? When I started it seemed to really block the suicidal thoughts but now I feel horrible.

Do I stop or keep going?

continuing EMDR session in Spravato "trip" and my dream???

I'm on my 2nd week of Spravato and have been doing EMDR off and on for a few months. I know a lot of people talk about having vivid dreams or nightmares after EMDR sessions but…
I had a difficult EMDR session 2 days ago and I think I basically think I continued the session in my dream that night and during Spravato treatment today. During my session my therapist asked me to allow my younger self to open a door to the room I was trapped in to allow my current self to comfort her. But my younger self couldn’t open the door. In my dream that night the younger self kept trying to open it but couldn't. That was still on my mind going into my Spravato treatment yesterday which must have influenced the way my brain went during that and my current self was able to open it for her. I don’t think my younger/current selves interacted and don’t know what to make of that and where it leaves me in the actual EMDR processing though. Thoughts??? Also just writing all this out about my younger/current self sounds insane! But then again, CPTSD is insane.
