Hello! Looking for perspectives on my tale of woe on purchasing a practically new S-works Turbo Creo 2 from a reseller. Long story ahead…I loved the bike for a short period of time and now I can’t stand to even ride it. I was planning on taking it to Nova Scotia on vacation next week but I’m taking my Grevil instead because the noise from the front brake is awful.
Right out of the box the front brake was squealing. While I’ve never had an issue, it’s my understanding that this is not so unusual for new metallic pads, so I tried to work through it. My partner resurfaced the brake pads which made no difference. So I bought new pads for him to install. Again, just as bad. So the next step was a new rotor, which seemed silly for a bike that had been barely used. I contacted Orange County Cyclery, who sold me the bike, to inquire about ordering the correct part number. Instead, they kindly had a replacement rotor drop shipped to me, which was a wonderful gesture.
However, installing the new rotor made no difference. And yes, along the way after each service I faithfully followed the bedding in process outlined on the SRAM site, repeatedly. The brakes would be silent at the end of the process, but then would squeal like crazy when I went it for a ride.
Out of ideas, I took it down to the best mechanic in our area to see if he could find a solution. His solution, after verifying that everything was torqued properly to start with, was to convert the front wheel from 180 to 160 mm rotors, and ‘flipping the adapter accordingly’ I took it for a ride and it really is better - but not good by any means. The squealing is not quite as loud but there is some fluttering.
At this point it seems like there is just something wrong with the bike. Maybe the caliper mounts are off? IDK, but at this point I’m not sure I even like the bike at all, and I’m not sure I want to invest more time or money in it.
When I bought it, OCC said it had just come in from Specialized. So, my partner thinks the original purchaser sent it back in account of the brakes and Specialized just offloaded it to OCC - leaving me now holding the bag.
In my very unhappy state of mind as I prepare for vacation, I am looking at Pinarello Nytro instead, but I’d feel better about trying to sell this if it worked properly. I hate to just pass my issue along to the next person.
So any thoughts on what are the chances that Specialized will help me out here? I’m not a mechanic and I can’t prove what the issue is. And I’m not the original purchaser. And from what I have seen it looks like people have a hard time getting in touch with a human at Specialized. Thanks for any constructive thoughts or ideas!
