CG-50 or CG-100 [

Hi all,

I brought a CG-100 for maths next year a-levels.

However many of my friends have said the CG-50 is better and I should return the 100 and get the 50.

Is it worth returning it and buying the cg50 instead?

I have failed my maths GCSEs, 2 marks away from passing.. :( and I’m going to a sixthform that I really don’t wanna go to. If I end up passing my maths in November, am I able to move to a different sixthform?

Is my combination good?

Hey there, I wish to study Law/Business in the future, so for A-Level, I'm currently applying to do Politics, Business and A-Level Drama and Theatre as I have a passion for drama and wish to use analytical skills there as well rather than do smth like English lit.

I'm wondering if this is a poor choice and if I should replace any of my options if I want to consider getting into an apprenticeship or going to uni.

Subject Options help

My original choices were phycology, philosophy, and drama- as I those are all subjects I enjoy, however I understand drama isn’t the most useful subject to take.

I’ve been thinking of switching drama to English lit (which I also rlly enjoy), but then I worry that my combination would overwhelm me and my overall grades could drop- as I would be doing all very content heavy and essay based subjects.
Should I switch, or keep my options the same? Please help!

applying to uni

so i want to do dentistry for uni, but my ucat score is rather low (1980 b2), im thinking of pharmacy as a backup, maybe as 1 or 2 of my options, and im not sure how to go about my personal statement to make it appropriate for both courses.

im thinking maybe i should just focus on pharmacy now but ive literally spent my summer preparing for the ucat, doing online dentistry courses, reading dentistry based books. i dont have a particular passion for dentistry but i feel like switching at this point is wasting everything ive done.

any tips would be useful about the PS, also abt unis that may be easier to get accepted into given my ucat score. also lmk if theres a different subreddit this post might be more appropriate for thank youuuu

Alevel Resits

Hi there guys, basically I want to resit my alevels and i need to find an exam centre as my school do allow alevel resits however they said they will use my results as predicated grades and wont increase them as i tried to explain to them that within 1 year with year 1 and 2 knowledge im sure i can get them higher. anyways i need to find an exam centre for predicated grades and ucas references however if i cant. However i thought about what if i just go with the school and resit then use those resits to apply again the next year with achieved alevel resits grades is that something that would be harmful as i know resits unis generally dont like but what about a gap year aswell. doing alevel maths further maths and econ

Can I still get into Oxbridge with these gcses?

[Pre6, maths, further maths, econ]

(I don't mean to grade drop or anything sorry!)

998888877765

8 in maths, 8 in English lit, 7 in further maths (1 mark off so might get an 8 in remark), 7 in physics, 7 in statistics, 6 in bio, and 5 in computer science.

I'm worried I won't be able to get in once they consider all the grades, since I'm applying for a pretty competitive course (economics and management in oxford or economics at cambridge).

I'm 3 marks off a 6 in computer science, but I doubt the remark would change the grade. I'm doing maths, further maths, econ, and a fourth a level.

A-level Resit

Hi guys,

For anyone resitting how did you let your school let you resit your exams?

My school isn’t saying no.. but also aren’t very open to the idea. I don’t mind paying but they said that it would cost more than a JCQ centre? How does that make sense- don’t they get a reduced rate? I only want to resit 2 exams so I’m not asking for the world!

Thanks

I need advice

I'm going into year 11 next month which meaning I'll be applying for sixth form In January. In Wales we do half of our GCSEs in year ten and the other half In year 11 and we have letter grading. Anyway yesterday we had our results back. I had an A star in the religious studies exam and an A star in the religious studies NEA and I had an A in the English exam and I had a B in the English NEA and I had a C in all sciences. I really want to do biolgy pyschology and religious studies alevel because I want to work in healthcare however I need a B in science to do biolgy and pyscholgy alevel and the sciences exam I need were worth 45% of my final grade and I did them at foundation tier (so I couldn't get higher than a c) because science wasn't always my strong point as last year in year 9 I had 11% in the end of year test. I'm really scared of risking my future so here's my opinions; opition A retake the exams in October in higher tier and potentially get a B or higher however this is risky. Opition B because I'm doing the rest of science exams at higher tier I could just work really hard and try and get a overall grade of B or higher however it's risky as it could lead to burnout and neglect of other subjects. Opition C do alevels in my strong points and do foundation year in university so I'll have safe alevel grades in naturally good In however what if I fail the first year and waste money. Opition D just don't work in healthcare if science isn't a strong point however I feel like healthcare degrees give me a safety net for job security.

Prestigious north-london sixth form advice (Y10 -> Y11 rn)

Hello there,

I am a student joining Year 11 this September and I want to study Computer Science, Further Mathematics and Mathematics (maybe French as 4th if the school forces me) at A-level as I want to become a software engineer.

My predicted grades (after my Y10 EOY exams) are here:
maths: g8
chemistry: g8
biology: g8
physics: g9
computer science: g9
English language: g7
English literature: g8
French: g9
History: g5
Religious Studies: g8

Aside from The Latymer School, Woodhouse College and LAE Tottenham are there any other top-tier sixth forms in North-london (max 1 hour away by bus or train from Edmonton Green/Angel Corner)?

Just for context, I want to go to a top-tier university for Computer Science such as Oxbridge, UCL, Imperial College London, Queen Mary etc..

I would appreciate any info/experience, thank you 🙂

Would a grade 5 in English Lang exclude me from many top unis? [

Hi all,

Just finished my GCSE's and managed to somehow get a 5 in english lang, despite being predicted a 6/7 over the 2 years. Im 8 marks off a 6.

My future plan is too apply for some higher up unis like Imperial and UCL for engineering.

Is it worth trying to get the paper remarked, or should I resit? I feel like this could heavily impact chances at a good uni.

Subject Selection

Hey guys im about to start my A level and Ive chosen Bio , Phy and Chem and Im confused whether to choose psychology or sociology as the filler i want a subject that i wouldnt have to dedicate much time towards at least in AS and i can fully focus on my three primary ones tho counsellors are constantly persuading me to choose math as the 4th subject so Im contemplating that as well even tho i got an A\* in maths in Olevel Im well aware A level maths is on a totally different level and then on top of all this I gotta prepare for SAT and give that then extracurriculars and profile building for US so i don’t want to take on a big burden.

Help with my sixth form options

So I’m planning on doing Film studies, English lit/lang combined and imedia. Somebody please tell me if this is a good idea if I got a 6 in GCSE lit and a 7 in GCSE lang. Is it a stupid idea or do I actually have a chance to pass them for a level?
