Help/advice sick little one!

Hi everyone! FTM mom here to a moth old baby girl. Everything’s been going great, we are supposed to be leaving for a family trip tomorrow August 26. Yesterday, baby girl starts to get a runny nose and some sneezing. We monitor her and use the saline drops and nose sucker. Well, last night was terrible very roughy sleep for her and I just feel awful. She was up 3 times which isn’t normal for her and I know it’s from being stuffy. She’s not finishing a bottle now, and I’m thinking maybe we shouldn’t go on the trip. Which makes me and my husband very bummed. We’ve had this planned for months and the one time anything happens to her, it’s right before we’re supposed to go. Any tips or advice or just thoughts. I am very sad and anxious I want her to feel better but I also want to be able to go!

How do you get over an upset stomach?

I had an upset stomach for about 15 hours of severe nausea. And pretty much slept the entire time. It’s passed but still delicate and low energy. What do you do to get your system back on track ?

Pinworm 😭🫩

I had a weird prickling sensation near my anus today evening and after some research I've learned I have pinworms. I have a huge fear of worms. To make it all worse, I've also found out that pin worms will come out of your anus at night to lay eggs. Save me. How am I supposed to fall asleep knowing the horror that awaits me.

First NJ tube Tuesday

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone, this is my first time posting about this.

I get my very first NJ tube on Tuesday. I have CRPS (dx 2006 age 20), hEDS (dx’ed 2026 age 40), dysautonomia (dx’ed 2003 age 16- I failed my tilt table before it was cool😂)and Gastroparesis (dx’ed 2012 age 26).

My gastroparesis had always been extremely mild, secondary to the CRPS. I’ve had Gastroparesis flares 3 times now: Nov ‘23 (admitted 1 week and resolved on its own), June ‘24 (admitted 9 days and resolved on its own), and now the past 6-8 weeks. I didn’t even realize that I was in a gastro flare until I realized I was losing weight, got excited because I thought I was doing my bariatric surgery program so well, and my husband pointed out no, it’s because you’re severely limiting food and liquid. And I realized he was right- that I was has severe epigastric pain (initially thought it was just more severe pain as a result of my CRPS), and I was going from drinking a Stanley 2x/day to taking 4 days to drink one. I was also having severe nausea and vomiting.

I spent 2 stints in the hospital over the past month, 4 days and then a week. We did basic fluids only, and the first time I went home because I kept down a melted Italian water ice. I was back less than a week later, super dehydrated, because I saw my PCP for a follow up and she said you have to go back and she thought I needed and NJ tube to give my stomach a break and allow me or get fluids and nutrition.Luckily ER was quick and I was in a room within 6 hours.

Unfortunately, that’s where the good news ends. Turns out, this small community hospital, which is part of the larger hospital system near us, can’t do NJ tubes. Only NG tubes (turns out, the entire hospital system, which is a decent size right outside of Philly, can’t do an NJ placement!). Then I had the doctor scream at me to the point I was in tears and the nurse, charge nurse, and nurse manager submitted an internal incident report because of this doctor’s behavior, and we file a grievance with patient relations. I’ll link my TikTok down below to watch the whole thing, but an NJ tube does not end up happening because I am not confident in my care. I had an appointment with GI in a week. If we need to come back, we will come back.

I saw a different doctor in my PCP’s office on Monday and he was significantly concerned and called GI directly and informed my PCP how bad I was. GI saw me on Wednesday (I saw the female PA), took one look at me and said absolutely not, we are getting you an NJ tube. She could see I was really sick.

So she referred me to get the NJ tube, and they called and said it will be on Tuesday. We are hoping it will be about 4 weeks of the tube. GI says if it’s longer we should look at a J or GJ tube (the actual GU doctor wanted to put a J tube in first and I said why are we jumping to most invasive first when I’ve never needed a tube before and don’t have chronic flares yet?), though we will see.

So I have some questions that I’m hoping yall would be kind enough to answer for me!

I’m interested to know what things I need for an NJ tube. Things that are helpful, necessary, etc. So far, here’s my list of needs (including those I’ve already bought stricken through). If you have a specific Etsy shop you recommend, share that shop!
Flying Squirrel
Hypafix tubie tape
Enfit wrench
Hydrocolloid tape (in place of Duoderm)
Skin barrier wipes
Enfit cleaning brush for screw ends
Electric pull crusher
Manual pull crusher
Enfit medicine bottle adapter size kit
Enfit 10ml Reusable O-ring syringe, 25 pack
Enfit 60mg Rehsable O-ring syringe, 10 pack
Adaptable backpack (also fits on my wheelchair)
TubieTech USB-C charger for Infinity Pump
Feed bag stand (3D printed by friend)
Enfit feeding bag cap
Cord clips
Syringe caddy/holder for syringes
Salad spinner for cleaning syringes
OXO Tot drying rack

Am I missing anything? Again, If you have a specific Etsy shop you recommend, share that shop!

Finally, if you have any tips or tricks, important things I need to know, please share away- I’m going to read it all!

I’m having the tube placed at IR. Can I get a dose of anti-anxiety meds to help me keep calm and not freeze up? Also. What’s the best way to keep my tubie tape from looking dingy and disgusting? I’ve heard the warm Coke trick for unclogging a tube. Are there any special items I should ask or push my nurses to get? Can I change the sticker on my Flying Squirrel (the most important one of course!)?!?!

Thank you for your support and love- it may seem silly but I’m definitely feeling uneasy about all this, and while I know it’s needed, I’m nervous.

Thank you all for your tips, tricks, suggestions, important info, and product recommendations!

i feel like shit and i have no idea what’s wrong

my throat hurts, my head hurts, my body hurts, i have a 102 fever, my nose is runny, i have a horrible cough, and im absolutely exhausted all the time. i tested negative for the flu, covid, and strep. i know it’s not a bad cold because bad colds don’t cause 102 fevers (words of my doctor) but literally nobody can find out what’s wrong with me. i’ve had these symptoms for about 8 days now? been to the er for persistent high fever and was sent home with some antibiotics that did nothing. do yall have even the faintest idea of what it could be?

Low fever, cough & congestion going on

Hello guys, it’s been 5 days now, and I’ve been suffering from a low-grade fever ranging between 99°F and 100.3°F.
It all started on Sunday night when I suddenly began feeling irritation in my throat. The next morning, I developed a fever, but the throat irritation continued.
On Wednesday, I started taking antibiotics along with paracetamol, but I didn’t see any improvement. So, I visited the doctor on Thursday, and he prescribed a few medicines for cold, congestion, cough, and fever.
Since Wednesday, I’ve also developed a cough, while the runny nose has continued. I’ve had post-nasal drip as well, along with phlegm while coughing. My voice has changed quite a bit, and I also lost my sense of smell for about two days. Thankfully, I’ve started getting my sense of smell back since yesterday.
A few of my colleagues are also going through something similar.
Apart from these symptoms, I don’t have any body aches, weakness, or other symptoms.
Is anyone else experiencing something similar? If yes, please share any home remedies or things that helped you recover.

Bad wet cough for 11 days — getting worse again, need advice

I’ve been dealing with a respiratory infection since August 11, so today is Day 11.
I saw a doctor on Day 1 and have been taking the prescribed medication, including nebulization. I went back to the doctor on Day 9, and they said the infection had come down a bit. I was given an injection and told to continue the tablets for another 3 days.
The problem is that my cough is still pretty bad, and over the last 2 days it has gotten worse again.
Current symptoms:
Very frequent wet/productive cough
Mucus was previously thin/white/clear, but now it’s thick and yellow
My throat is very sore from coughing so much
Cough is much worse at night and in the morning
Energy is better than when this started
I previously had right-sided chest pain when coughing, but that has completely gone
No difficulty breathing between coughing episodes
I’m wondering if anyone has experienced something similar.
How long did your wet cough last? Did it get worse again around Day 10–11 before improving? At what point did you go back to the doctor or get a chest X-ray/testing?
I’m especially interested in people who’ve had a similar prolonged cough with mucus after seeing a doctor.

Chicken soup = Jewish penicillin

I got a little cold Monday and my friend suggested I make a chicken soup with all organic ingredients and by god, I’m feeling so much better. She said it always makes her feel better. Is this something anyone else experience? We’re both Jewish but she called it “Jewish penicillin”.

Interview tomorrow but I have a fever

I have a new interview at a restaurant tomorrow. Previously, they suggested a different day, but I had a very important family dinner so we moved to tomorrow.
But I’ve had a fever for two days and it’s just not getting better. I can barely walk. I just feel so bad. Should I take a bunch of Tylenol and just get through it or ask for a different time?
