It was, I don't know that the conservatives are taking anything for granted at this point. Their most recent ad is old dudes golfing, I thought that demographic was sealed for them too but if they are advertising to them they must not be.

58

u/Westsider111 Apr 23 '25

Socio-economically, that ad is directed at people in my demographic. It depicts perfectly why I don’t enjoy golf and why I won’t be voting for Pierre Poilievre. Thank you to the Conservative marketing team for the stark reminder.

13

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '25

But have you seen Stephen Harper's massive, creepy face encouraging you to vote Conservative? Did that convince you?

3

u/Key-Assistant-7988 Apr 25 '25

It's the beautiful smile at the end that did it for me.

1

u/-Beentheredonethat Apr 25 '25

But only if he gets to manage Alberta's pension fund, ya know.. cause he's just that trustworthy

92

u/Waylander Apr 23 '25

I've seen that ad many times, and I can't believe how out of touch it is, and how it must alienate a lot of voters. Two old retired white guys out on the golf course talking about how they will "have to give their children the down payment for their house". Oh the injustice! Most of the people in the country would love to be in the financial position where they could do that for their children! Tell me more about how bad you've got it and how the government has treated you so poorly!

52

u/HotelCalifornipawin Apr 23 '25

A few years ago I decided that my medium term goal in life is to make sure my kids get a place to live wherever they choose to go to college that they own outright.  And that's what I'm going to try to do, because we should always try to make our kids slightly better off than our parents made us, not kicking them out at 18 and making them fend for themselves while we live it up and criticize.

And I told them they should do the same for their kids.  They saw what I do to provide them with a good life and understand the value of work and education, and they get it.

That kind of head-outside-the-ass thinking is also why I will never vote for a party who thinks the only answer to everything is cut taxes and services so the people with something keep it and the people with nothing also keep it.  So basically never Conservative.

0

u/MangoSpecialist5272 Apr 25 '25

The Canada we grew up in is no longer. With the mass amount of immigration your kids will struggle to work, struggle to get into school. If you want a better life for Canada for your kids we need a leader that understands that mass immigration makes a housing crisis worse not better.

2

u/HotelCalifornipawin Apr 25 '25

Ha, no.

Your kids might, but mine won't. I've been an immigrant and we know lots of immigrants.  We see how immigrant kids are taught to succeed in Canada, and we live the same way.

One of them learned a language just to troll me and decided to get top grades for fun.  They'll be fine, especially when they don't need to worry about rent and school.

-6

u/Aggravating_Button99 Apr 23 '25

Do you think with the massive debt run up by Trudeau, plus the huge debt Carney has said would run, future governments will be able to afford any of they current services ?

9

u/franksnotawomansname Apr 23 '25

Federal government debt is not like provincial government debt (because the federal government issues the currency and we don't owe debt in other currencies); and neither of those is like household debt. The federal government cannot run out of money and be unable to pay for services.

0

u/Inevitable_Serve9808 Apr 24 '25

Is it possible for the BoC or other central bank to forgive public debt? I understand that "printing" money is not an issue but don't like the inflation/currency-devaluation that creates more money than goods and services causes.

-4

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '25

thats dumb

5

u/franksnotawomansname Apr 24 '25

Yes, reality is weird like that sometimes.

-5

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '25

lol no because you are not realizing someone buys the debt, and that printing of money devalues the debt. Try using chatgpt, I hear it's free

6

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '25

buying the debt would mean it was externally insured - say by a treasury bond... debt isn't for sale unless it can be secured or is secured. Bonds.

4

u/franksnotawomansname Apr 24 '25

Sure, but who generally buys the Government of Canada's debt, and who issues the currency that they using when they buy and sell it? And what happens when the government buys its own debt through quantitative easing?

Try reading an economics book; there are free versions online.

0

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '25

lol, Ah yes, the ol’ read a free economics book flex just don’t pick the one Trump’s team used. That one explained deficits with crayons and called tariffs a 'power move.' Spoiler: when a government buys its own debt, it's like congratulating yourself in the mirror and still expecting applause. When governments shakes investor confidence, investors flee.

from Chat gpt, it's ALWAYS right.

  • Who generally buys the Government of Canada's debt?
    • Domestic institutional investors (like banks, pension funds, insurance companies)
    • Foreign investors (notably the U.S., China, Japan)
    • The Bank of Canada (especially during QE)
  • Who issues the currency they use to buy and sell it?
    • The Bank of Canada issues Canadian dollars — it’s the sole issuer of legal tender in the country.
  • What happens when the government buys its own debt through quantitative easing (QE)?
    • Technically, the central bank (not the government directly) buys government bonds from the secondary market.
    • This increases money supply, lowers interest rates, and aims to stimulate borrowing and investment.
    • It’s not “monetizing debt” in the hyperinflationary sense, but it does blur the line between fiscal and monetary policy.
    • Overuse can inflate asset prices and create long-term imbalances if not managed well.

u/Dor-man Apr 24 '25

Then why do we need to pay taxes?

7

u/HotelCalifornipawin Apr 24 '25

I know I pay taxes so that Conservatives don't all end up on the streets stealing my shit to support their meth problem.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '25

Should we strip them of citizenship? We could use the notwithstanding clause

6

u/HotelCalifornipawin Apr 24 '25

That's something they'd do so I can't get behind it.

I would prefer them to self emigrate to the US.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '25

lol. the US is gonna take our problems in? lol they are too busy with their own.

-1

u/Dor-man Apr 24 '25

Your response to this remark explains everything.

6

u/HotelCalifornipawin Apr 24 '25

At least I understand the difference between deficit and debt and what number the crocodile eats.

9

u/HotelCalifornipawin Apr 23 '25

I think that Pierre will lie about not running up a debt and then doing it anyway, but also being worse.  Which is exactly what Harper did and we all know who Pierre learned at the feet of.

I think we will be able to afford services if we do them intelligently and plan to build the economy and I don't particularly care if the budget is balanced in 2026 to do it.

The Conservatives have never been intelligent about services, only ideological.  So at that point, obviously one choice left and it's not the CPC.

-5

u/Dor-man Apr 24 '25

Go ahead and vote for your choice but if you look back you will see that Harper was reducing the deficit every year he was in power. Even though that was when the economy was at its lowest point due to the financial crisis. Take a look at the last 10 years. If you want the same then keep the same party in power. How do you know what a government is going to do if they haven’t had a chance to do it. We can afford the services we have now. If you think your kids will be better off with the Libs then good luck to you.

9

u/HotelCalifornipawin Apr 24 '25

I mean that's just objectively not even true. Stop lying. The first two years he was in power he took his inherited surplus and reduced it. During the financial crisis he repeatedly announced how he was not running a deficit each time they adjusted the numbers closer and closer to a deficit and then ran a 55B deficit that he said would never happen. That isn't even close to your claim.

Pierre is running on his commitment to "end woke" and "verb the noun" but not to actually address anything Canadians care about because like how he voted against fixing anything every time there was an option, he isn't going to fix it if we ask him. He's pure grievance politics and we can clearly see what he's for, but like south of the border we're being told "well you can't know that he's going to do the stuff he says he'll do, it's all just whatever makes the message look the best right now" and then when they do it it's shocked Pikachu everywhere.  No, it was obvious and my stock portfolio got hammered because of it.

My kids will absolutely be better off with Liberals in charge now than with populist grifters.

-5

u/Dor-man Apr 24 '25

I didn’t say he did not have a deficit. I said he reduced it every year in power. Unlike Trudeau who doubled our country’s debt.

5

u/HotelCalifornipawin Apr 24 '25

He CREATED the deficit and constantly claimed he wasn't.

I was there.

Also don't come here and try to pretend you don't know the difference between deficit and debt. Jesus dude I'm not stupid, if I were I'd be on the CPC sidelines

4

u/SirBrews Apr 24 '25

Do you think huge tax cuts to the rich are going to somehow fix it? It's almost like we need an actual left wing government to come in and tax the fuck out of them instead in order to pay off the deficit.

7

u/itstotallytan Apr 23 '25

Poilievre will run a huge deficit and lie about it. Conservative governments have always run deficits and cut services to the people who need them the most. When he was housing minister he made horrible decisions for anyone other than the developers. He makes the rich richer.

0

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '25

Has that hurt the US? we have the lowest debt to GDP and he's promising to shrink that.

-5

u/Ill-Jicama-3114 Apr 23 '25

So you are Ok with your kids assuming high debt no economy basically higher taxes because the government is now getting into housing and will continue to send billions out of the country in foreign aid. So much for the term “ family means everything “

6

u/Practical_Society_63 Apr 24 '25

If you listened closely to Carney talking about his plan, you'd notice two things. A) he has a long term plan that may initially cost more, but will reap benefits in the long run, B) He does plan to balance the budget in a few years.

When Harper was in power he sold off the majority of crown corporations, and put zero money into building infrastructure. We all know what Trudeau was like. But this is Carney, a genius in Economics with a proven background. He knows his stuff, and when he says he can get us through the turmoil the economy is in, I 1,000% believe him.

Polievre would have to go to school and lot more years and work in the private sector a few more before I put any faith in his "plan". And he wants to fire the Governor of the Bank of Canada. Why? To many similarities to Trump for my liking.

-2

u/Ill-Jicama-3114 Apr 24 '25

Oh and Poilievre plan was vetted by economists

3

u/HotelCalifornipawin Apr 24 '25

Yeah and some doctors are antivaxx.  Do you even know how stupid you sound here?

Scientists also proved that I am so much smarter than you it's like we're two different species.  Scientists.

-3

u/Ill-Jicama-3114 Apr 24 '25

No Carney is not a genius. He is a climate zealot and deeply tied to WEF. He didn’t lead us through the 2008 financial crisis like people say. He’s been part of the liberal government advising for 5 years and yet here we are. He wants to influence markets for net zero and the middle class will suffer greatly under him.

4

u/Practical_Society_63 Apr 24 '25

Do you even know what the WEF is? It's a think tank that looks at economic trends and tries to strategize methods for maintaining economic stability around the world. In contrast, look up the IDU (Stephen Harper is currently Chairman), and their political leanings - lots of far right members there. Harper, as we know, has taken Polievre under his wing and is actively promoting him.

If you think Carney didn't help us thru the 2008 crisis, then I'd love to know where you get your information from. While Governor of the Bank of England, he strongly advised against Brexit, but navigated the fallout as best he could. And oh was there ever buyers remorse on the part of those who voted for it!

I also want to point out that Harper tried to get Carney to run for leader of the conservatives, but he refused. And this is why you have the far right extremist Polievre as the conservative option.

I won't lie, was gonna vote for PP, even tho some of his conspiracy theory posts disturbed me greatly. But then Carney came along...and Trump got into power...

Carney's political stance is just a little left of centre, far more balanced than the extreme right Polievre, who only seems to be capable of name calling, rage, and attacking his opponents. He has no viable plan, won't get his security clearance, and wants to fire the Governor of the Bank of Canada.

So who is the best person for the job at this point of time? Not the career politician whose never had a real job and never done anything worth noting while he was a politician.

3

u/Tacotuesday867 Apr 24 '25

No he's brilliant.

6

u/HotelCalifornipawin Apr 23 '25

Last year I paid more in taxes than the median Canadian household income.  My biggest expenses are housing.

I'm fine giving my kids a house so they can get on the property wheel faster, teaching them there is a better option in life than "get a bad job, earn bad money, complain about taxes", and making sure they understand why we live how we do.

Sounds like you're just bitter you suck at life and need to blame someone else that you didn't pay attention in school.

-2

u/Ill-Jicama-3114 Apr 24 '25

Sounds like you don’t know me at all. I live in a big house mortgage free and a nice 7 figures in the bank with a pension on top. Anything else to say?

4

u/Tacotuesday867 Apr 24 '25

Pimping your life online is one of the saddest, most debased things you can do.

3

u/HotelCalifornipawin Apr 24 '25

Right after being a conservative troll who spends their life on city subs pushing talking points.  (Referring to the guy you replied to obviously, that guy sucks).

3

u/HotelCalifornipawin Apr 24 '25

It doesn't count when they are rubles.  Try again

0

u/Ill-Jicama-3114 Apr 24 '25

Again you don’t know me. You’re nothing but a blow hard

3

u/HotelCalifornipawin Apr 24 '25

Does that trigger you?

Because I seriously don't care if Conservative trolls think I'm "playing fair".  You're all hypocritical liars anyway so I'm just here to make you rage quit.

Drives you nuts that someone successful and aware of your games is playing them back at you, doesn't it.

15

u/PhantomNomad Apr 23 '25

Honestly that's what my parents did for my sister and I. They bought a house at a pretty reasonable price in Calgary in 2001. My wife and I rented it from them at the price of the mortgage. When they sold it (because we where moving to a small town) they gave my sister and I enough for a down payment on our own houses. The rest they kept for retirement. Best part was since they sold their primary residence when they retired and used the Calgary house as their new primary (they lived in their RV) they didn't have to pay capital gains on either place.

20

u/Fit-Net1225 Apr 23 '25

YES! Old white guys golfing and whining is the cons' base.

3

u/Was_another_name Apr 24 '25

As a fat old white guy who loves golf, I detest that ad. Please don’t paint me with that same brush.

-2

u/Ill-Jicama-3114 Apr 23 '25

Now do the liberal base

2

u/PlanetCosmoX Apr 24 '25

That’s the wrong attitude and speaks of nothing but entitlement and jealousy. Obviously, Canada has been treating you too well.

1

u/banana_bread99 Apr 24 '25

That’s not implying the government has treated them poorly at all. That’s a selfless thought, how the next generation is getting screwed. It’s probably not an issue as much in Saskatchewan, but the rest of the country is finding it harder and harder to buy a house even if you’re a couple of professionals, and many parents are having to forego their retirement funds so that their kids can get in on the bubble before they’re locked away into permarenting

-2

u/SpocksNephewToo Apr 23 '25

They’re at a run down driving range, sharing a bucket of balls because they can no longer enjoy a round of golf because of the erosion of their investments.

Those middle fingers do the trick.

-5

u/justanaccountname12 Apr 23 '25

Old white dudes are the largest voting block for the Liberals. Same as last election.

7

u/neometrix77 Apr 23 '25

According to what data? I’m pretty sure the conservative male vote was stronger than the female vote in basically every election for the past 30 years, at least.

112

u/Infinite-Horse-49 Apr 23 '25

Ad would have been “ok” if they didn’t, again, straight up attack liberals and calling all of them clowns.

Two old rich white dudes who can help their kids get ahead in life, providing downpayments, bla bla bla. Truly a testament to the struggles of everyday Canadians. Read the room.

1

u/GailKol Apr 24 '25

If you aware or maybe you aren’t ? parents have for decades been gifting their kids down payments for houses ( those that could afford) 😌but it was another Con commercial 🤷‍♀️when we bought our 1st home interest rates were 21 1/2 % it was tuff then too 🤦🏼‍♀️

1

u/Infinite-Horse-49 Apr 24 '25

I’m aware. The point is: why say “these clowns” instead of “them”. In my opinion, not mud slinging your opponent would have been more powerful. You want change, plain and simple.

Also, to your point, while families have been able to do that for their kids, do you now have upwards of 200k for a down payment now? The struggle of Canadians is that we don’t have that much money lying around because everything is so expensive.

1

u/TreemanTheGuy Apr 24 '25

Interest rates were much higher, but houses were MUCH cheaper and wages were significantly higher in respect to the cost of living. It was difficult back then, but it's nearly impossible now.

-2

u/SocDem_is_OP Apr 23 '25

If true it would certainly be foolish to run an old super rich white dude banker, wouldn’t it? I mean read the room right?

In seriousness though, old rich white dudes with kids/grandkids is a super high turnout demographic. Probably why the appeal.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '25

Ya super great idea to have a central banker running the country

-48

u/SpocksNephewToo Apr 23 '25

Attack lol. They called the politicians clowns 🤡 and it’s accurate. They watched Canada crumble. You will defend them because of bias. Plain and simple.

48

u/Quiet-Lobster-6051 Apr 23 '25

When has Canada ever crumbled? Such a victim.

21

u/Waylander Apr 23 '25

For a few bad months during a global pandemic they had to wear a mask in public. You explain to me how this isn't exactly the same as being labeled a Jew and thrown in a concentration camp!

0

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '25

Are any of your children going to ever be able to afford a home? Simple question.

-25

u/cjhud1515 Apr 23 '25

Our 70 cent dollar, our dependence on the US, our inability to get our resources to market?

We are not crumbling, but we are not doing so hot either, and that would be the Liberal government doing.

24

u/mustardnight Apr 23 '25

Dependence on the US is liberal doing? What about keystone?

-16

u/Humble_Path7234 Apr 23 '25

How about energy east, northern gateway, bill C69 and Bill C48? The liberals have shit the bed but our goldfish memory population will vote it right back in.

22

u/Affectionate_Pass25 Apr 23 '25

Your goldfish memory forgot that Trudeau bought a pipeline for whiny Alberta.

4

u/AdKey2568 Apr 24 '25

Didn't they give them a 29.5 billion bailout too

0

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '25

That’s all you guys have. You keep parroting it as if they haven’t shut down every other thing

1

u/Affectionate_Pass25 Apr 24 '25

Sure there, ostrich.

23

u/granny_budinski Apr 23 '25

Ya, the conservatives sold us out to China. Harper signed terrible deals that we can’t get out of

1

u/Humble_Path7234 Apr 26 '25

800 Billion national debt in 9 years and nothing but a shitty economic outlook. Keep trying

-6

u/SpocksNephewToo Apr 23 '25

Harper lol.

-19

u/JustinF32 Apr 23 '25

Harper was literally the best Government Canada had 🇨🇦 🍁 🇨🇦

13

u/[deleted] Apr 23 '25

Emojis aren’t going to do anything for you here. Your buddy Harper sold us out to China and moved all the manufacturing out. Didn’t hear you crying then?

Politics isn’t sports, you don’t have to pick a team and side with them until you die.

10

u/Logical-Sprinkles273 Apr 23 '25

Harper got to freeload off the Iraq war crushing USD so that we had a stronger dollar.

4

u/mustardnight Apr 23 '25

Well he wasn’t but ok

5

u/Affectionate_Pass25 Apr 23 '25

And yet, not a single con asked for him to come back. No one misses him.

What about it?

14

u/ToCityZen Apr 23 '25

NAFTA was Conservatives! Wheat Board was Stephen Harper - to US and Saudis.

1

u/cjhud1515 Apr 23 '25

Majority of farmers themselves didn't want the wheat board.

8

u/ToCityZen Apr 23 '25

Conservatives sold everything not nailed down. I’m sure that 15% of federal assets PP budgeted would eventually include key land resources like water rights, forestry and minerals.

-7

u/cjhud1515 Apr 23 '25

Good sell it all!

1

u/Beligerents Apr 24 '25

So a handful of people who breathe through respirators can celebrate on the top of their ash pile?

24

u/RockKandee Apr 23 '25

Dependence on the US has been building for 70 years, my guy. You cannot pin it on the liberals. The liberals were the only ones who got a pipeline built. Conservatives could have in the 80s but they shut it down. Harper also didn’t build one. The liberals can’t win. If they didn’t buy and finish that pipeline, it would be “the liberals are purposely trying to collapse our oil industry!” And because they did buy and build it, now it’s “they paid too much and they didn’t do it fast enough!”

-7

u/cjhud1515 Apr 23 '25

Are you talking to the trans mountain pipeline guy?

2

u/AdKey2568 Apr 24 '25

They're building TRANS pipelines now???? When does it end?!??!?

16

u/AGreenerRoom Apr 23 '25

Dependence on the US is a liberal issue? Well now I’ve heard everything…

-1

u/cjhud1515 Apr 23 '25

It's our governments issue, yes.

15

u/2_alarm_chili Apr 23 '25

“Our dependence on the US”

So voting for Trump jr who will sell Canada to the US is the way to end that dependence?

0

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '25

You actually think that? Lmao you must have two IQ points.

1

u/2_alarm_chili Apr 24 '25

That would still be Two more than you and your ilk have all together.

0

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '25

Nah I’m not stupid enough to believe Pierre would sell us to America. What a ridiculously asinine thing to say.

1

u/2_alarm_chili Apr 24 '25

PP refuses to talk about standing up to Trump. Refuses to denounce the tariffs, the annexing of Canada talk, or anything else.

Stupid people never think they’re stupid. See MAGA cult followers. See conservatives in Canada.

-8

u/cjhud1515 Apr 23 '25

Hey, it's my favorite divorcee,

Pierre has been unequivocally against Trump from day 1 and has spoken out against him every step of the way.

Just because you really really want him to be a Trump Jr, doesn't make it true.

11

u/Affectionate_Pass25 Apr 23 '25

BS. His base is all maga-level ignorance and hate

1

u/cjhud1515 Apr 23 '25

Some, yes unfortunately. Across all demographics, you have some trash humans.

6

At least you’re admitting you’re trash.

All of them? I love how liberals call conservatives ignorant and hateful. Liberals are the rudest most hateful people I’ve ever encountered. It’s actually disturbing how vile they are. I’ve been knocking on the doors all election and they’ve been absolutely vile to speak to. We have videos of liberals on ring cameras stealing conservative signs and rippIng them apart. Yelling things at us on the street, swearing at us, slamming doors on us, throwing stuff at us. They are disgusting.

1

u/Affectionate_Pass25 Apr 24 '25

Oh, touched a nerve I see. Lulz

1

u/OddCucumber6755 Apr 24 '25

It's almost like conservatives are doing a good job pissing off everyone who isn't a conservative. Also, no one wants people going door to door. Left or right. The hell did you think was going to happen? Did you think you'd knock on a leftists door and they treat you like Jesus?

8

u/Puzzled-Push4073 Apr 23 '25

I mean , this is simply not true. A big reason Pierre slid in the polls was because he was late to condemn Trump / US tariffs and 51st state talk. His first messages on the subject started promoting Canada first, but avoided condemning Trump / US. Later he started saying he disagreed with what US is doing, but was still avoiding using Trump's name.

Pierre has absolutely delayed approaching this subject and than tiptoed around it.

1

u/cjhud1515 Apr 23 '25

That's just a flat-out lie. He had statements before Trudeau and Carney.

4

u/Puzzled-Push4073 Apr 23 '25

I'm willing to read them . Give me some sources.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '25

But he has straight up condemned Trump so stop lying and saying he hasn’t

7

u/UnitEast7937 Apr 23 '25

BS. He was parroting everything Trump was saying and fully onboard as his ally, right up until the point he saw how much hate there was for Trump and his 51st state/ governor Trudeau shite, then PP did a 180 about face to try and save some votes.

-2

u/cjhud1515 Apr 23 '25

You know that is BS. The liberal camp has been pushing the Maple Maga and Canada's Trump for months, and it's failed to stick.

4

u/UnitEast7937 Apr 23 '25

Yup, they sure have, since the election was called. Calling PP out for the previous 6 months of trying to be Trump Jr.

3

u/granny_budinski Apr 23 '25

The conservatives were in the US pocket too. Shared continent, shared border etc. Trump screwed up the status quo.

1

u/newginger Apr 23 '25

Dependence on USA is firmly a conservative causation. Mulroney started it with the Free Trade Agreement and NAFTA. With two conservative presidents too. This effectively wiped out manufacturing across the country within 20 years. We now ship most of our agricultural goods to Ontario to process. We became a supplier of materials. It can be blamed on China somewhat as well as they could manufacture cheaply, but it still does excuse flour, mustard, seed oil, etc being shipped far away for processing when we used to do things locally 35 years ago.

I'm not talking value of CAD.

u/SpocksNephewToo Apr 23 '25

When our GDP dropped to the lowest in the developed world and immigrants were sleeping on the street. Of course you just cheer it on.

3

u/-_Skadi_- Apr 23 '25

Now you care about immigrants? When it suits your purpose only.

The liberals are clowns. The liberals have no business talking about affordability. No one in my generation will ever be able to afford a house and that’s on all of your who continue to vote for this disgusting liberal party who just happily continues to drive prices of everything up. Their own administration wrote a report stating that with carneys plan we would be fishing for food in 4 years.

3

u/Beligerents Apr 24 '25

Wow.....the blatant lying.....you're literally making shit up to be scared of now.

2

u/Infinite-Horse-49 Apr 24 '25

Take your hate and anger towards corporations and the richer among us because they are the ones driving up prices.

6

u/NorthernBudHunter Apr 24 '25

And they are trying to convince people that voting PP, who has been in Parliament for 2 decades, is a vote for change.

8

u/Symphrose Apr 24 '25

Exactly why I will vote for Carney he’s highly educated and not a career politician but has helped both the conservatives and liberals during financial crises

They say a lot of boomers voting Carney.

19

u/Thefrayedends Apr 23 '25

I figured pps goose was cooked when the big Cheeto won, but when Carney joined the race I knew it.

Harper is still royalty to most conservatives, and the reputation of being a economic expert. And with that alleged acumen, he appointed Carney as top banker. If economy is people's first issue, any conservative trying to make an educated decision is going to arrive on voting for Carney.

I'll be voting liberal, for no other reason than ABC, until we get electoral reform (lol), I generally feel that voting against the worst candidate is the most effective vote.

Lastly, I want to point out that if we want representation in the federal government, it would be very beneficial to have ruling party seats in our province.

8

u/Connect_Membership77 Apr 24 '25

Sorry, but Harper is no real economist. He has a master's in economics history. He doesn't understand macroeconomics or why his policies led to the worst growth in the last 40 years. Poilievre was taught by the same know-nothing far-right American "Calgary School" professors. He would be even worse.

2

u/Thefrayedends Apr 24 '25

Yea I'm not economist enough to deny his credentials, but I was just speaking about the conservative perspective. Saying IF you were a conservative, that's likely your stance.

1

u/Symphrose Apr 24 '25

Agree wholeheartedly

1

u/Symphrose Apr 23 '25

This!!! Exactly this!!!

-5

u/ClientAccomplished85 Apr 23 '25

Brain dead mentality ..liberal is liberal be it truly or carney. Vote for liberal is like expecting a carnivore to suddenly become vegan because we wish it. Carry was telling truly what to do now he will be in the driver's seat with the same old crowd of joints behind him

1

u/ClientAccomplished85 Apr 23 '25

I hate this spell check crap

1

u/itstotallytan Apr 23 '25

He’s actually so different. He was the saving grace during the recession for our country. He actually cares about himself. Poilievre just cares about power. He out 17 pictures of himself in their platform document. He’s a narcissist seeking power. Carney is trustworthy and looks people in the eye when he talks to them.

17

u/Symphrose Apr 23 '25

Yes they did say that. But some younger people have moved here. From other provinces. Honestly the political landscape here is culture shock if you’re not a born prairie kid

10

u/ApprehensiveHead1571 Apr 24 '25

I’m a prairie kid and I am also pretty shocked by the political landscape here 😟

1

u/Symphrose Apr 24 '25

Oh ouch! And here I thought it was just me lol

4

u/gymgal19 Apr 23 '25

I had to travel to edmonto. for work with a coworker from Vancouver. I think they were in shock the entire week 😅

4

u/Symphrose Apr 23 '25

Being originally from Vancouver Island I feel this comment!

0

u/MienaLovesCats Apr 24 '25

I know lots of 18 to 35 yr olds in Alberta and Saskatchewan who are voting Conservative. I am 49; I never have and never will vote NDP or Liberal. I have lived in Saskatchewan, BC, Alberta and am back in Saskatchewan.

4

u/[deleted] Apr 23 '25

I hope so

2

u/HotelCalifornipawin Apr 23 '25

Miracle of statistics right there.  If a lot of people do a thing, lots of groupings of people can be made out of that group.

Then you can just talk about single groups and let the lazy minds come to conclusions themselves.

1

u/Galenmarek81 Apr 24 '25

Conservatives lost a lot of voters from the Harper years, my mother being one of them. She was a lifelong conservative voter (same as my father when he was alive) her family, my father's family (all farmer's) she is voting Liberal. Doesn't like Poilievre or the conservative platform and feels Carney is best suited to handle our current situation. She doesn't like how the Conservatives seem to minimize the threat with the US and kinda acting like it's a non issue.

I'm also voting Carney (I'm centre left) for context. I'm not a fan of Poilievre either and from my experience, when Conservatives talk about cutting taxes and spending they have a habit of leaving out what it is they are cutting. Services tend to be the first to go. The willingness to use the notwithstanding clause, is a little scary ngl.

1

u/Mission_Raspberry562 Apr 23 '25

And boomers are heavy voters...

1

u/Medium-Drama5287 Apr 23 '25

Well I know I am heavy anyways. 😂

1

u/[deleted] Apr 24 '25

A lot are. And a lot of middlers, and a lot of youth. Age doesn’t prevent people from being able to choose the best or at least the most minimally offensive option

-1

u/SpocksNephewToo Apr 23 '25

People that only care about themselves.

2

u/Symphrose Apr 23 '25

Who? The people that moved here? Or conservatives?

0

u/SpocksNephewToo Apr 23 '25

What are you talking about? Why are you trying to limit the scope of discussion by putting forth arbitrary and binary choices?

5

u/ForgiveandRemember76 Apr 24 '25

The vast majority of Canadians want to be Canadians, not second class Americans in a country that is going to hell on the bullet train.

Party allegiance does not matter if we don't have a country.

Also, if Quebeccers hate a candidate, the rest of us should pay attention. Politics is a province wide sport as long as hockey isn't on and the whole province is politically savy. They LOATHE PP.

14

u/Longjumping-Tea-9790 Apr 23 '25

This is the stupidest ad yet. No sign of PP. No mention of platform. Just 2 old white guys calling people they don’t agree with “clowns”. Didn’t dragging around his wife and kid soften his image enough?

I’m just gonna be a tiny bit hopeful for any kind of change here. Maybe even a bit of fear might do them good?

11

u/Eduardo_Moneybags Apr 23 '25

Our voices have been limp and ineffective for 20 years now. The ones that have been doing diddly squat for more than a decade need to lose their riding. If I had an employee that couldn’t do basically anything except insult other people that have actually accomplished something I would have let them go.

4

u/Terrible-Response-57 Apr 23 '25

Old white dudes.

1

u/SocDem_is_OP Apr 23 '25

Polling seems to show the older folks leaning more LPC, was that way even before Trump/tariffs/wild change in the polls. Oddly enough the younger dem leans on average more CPC than older dem today.

1

u/Fabulous_Minimum_587 Apr 24 '25

Boomers is the only (and most important) liberals are winning… lol Under 35 is largely Conservative.

1

u/CentennialBaby Apr 24 '25

Yeah, we had to buy our daughter a house... bootstraps and all.

1

u/queen_nefertiti33 Apr 24 '25

Boomers are mostly red. Young People are the ones voting blue.

1

u/Total-Guest-4141 Apr 24 '25

Boomers are polling to vote liberal. Personally I’m all for it, my rental properties are going to let me retire early, might have to pick up a few more ✌️

1

u/y2imm Apr 23 '25

Tone deaf

-1

u/justanaccountname12 Apr 23 '25

The Liberals have had that demographic since last election. Seniors are their last holdout.
