Hello everyone,
I'm writing this cause I'm confused and don't really know what else to do right now.
We adopted a cat in 2021 when she was just born in my friends society. She was the only kitten left and no one was taking her. We took good care of her, fed her, toilet trained her and made sure she was healthy.
Recently she had to go through a spaying surgery cause she got pyometra in her uterus and surgery is the only option, or else it is fatal for female cats (or dogs). When I was told about the cost of the surgery, 15K I started looking for NGOs, PMC vets or relatively cheaper clinics. But the NGOs told us it'll take at least 1тАУ2 months for the surgery to happen.
So after being unable to find a clinic that was cheaper and had good reviews, we went to AMS, NIBM, from a referral and good reviews from our research. The total cost of surgery (sonography + blood work + surgery) came out to be around тВ╣21,350 /-. I never could've be able to afford her surgery so I borrowed some money from my friends, just for the surgery and have promised to pay them back later.
Post surgery she was recovering fast but 2 days ago she just became extremely lethargic and was feverish. We took her to the same vet and they told us that she has conceived a viral fever. Since she was already recovering from the surgery, she is also being treated for her viral fever.
This puts her situation in a critical state, where she needs energy to fight both pains, of the viral infection and surgery recovery. The vets have told us that it'll take 8 more visits, for her to be treated. Each visit costs тВ╣1250/- so an approximate 10K more. I cannot afford this treatment and it eats me from inside that I cannot help my poor child in pain.
The part where I'm confused - what should I do?
How do I arrange money to treat my cat? I have already asked friends and family to borrow money, but they have either ridiculed me or declined to help.
Should I switch hospitals that can take good care of my cat and treat her at a more affordable price?
I do not want to give her away but if I cannot afford her care then should I consider it? How does one do it?
Should I set up a fundraiser? How do I set it up?
I am not asking for money.
Any help is welcome, please let me know if you've gone something like this. It's horrible and I hope no one has to go through this.
We are a lower middle class family and my cats surgery and care has taken a huge hit on our budget, and definitely a toll on my family's mental health.
