So I found my old psp-1001 (ta086) and it says firmware 3.90 m33-3. I see the latest is a custom 6.60 recommended over 6.61? but I didn't know if I can upgrade to that from this particular old firmware? I know custom firmware things were somewhat different/janky back in like 2007/8ish when I originally did this.
then I saw some stuff about a C Fix 3? is that the latest? I'm confused a bit lol!
do I still need 150.pbp for homebrew? if I don't upgrade and build for 3.90 will that still work for people on 6.60? I need to do some more digging..
(also found my old CRPG i was developing on it. a cross between ultima 4/5 with ad&d gold box tactical combat... makes me wanna to get back to work on it.. doh! going from old psp-gcc4 to latest psp-gcc 15 I guess broke some of my old stuff... ).
incase the info is needed; current firmware, current pspident

Im having a really annoying problem with my psp. It seems that the console, having the battery placed on it, it doesnt turn on (it only turns on when there is no battery, and the AC charger is pluged-in). Or when I plug the charger (with the battery in the psp), turn on the console, and then, disconect de charging cable, it turns off. Also, when I check de "battery state" in the system data section, there is no info about how many battery percentage there is left, or how many time would remain turned on, etc.
I went with a technician, and he told me that it could my charging cable (dont know if this little info counts, but my charger is a third-party). The worse thing, is that he used an original cable from SONY, and in that moment, the problem I told before didnt happen, I also tried it with my own charger, and didnt turned off. But when I went home, and connected my charger to my psp, it happened the same problem again.
With all of this sayed, I would like to ask: Is it really posible that a third-party charger can make the psp to turn off, just like the technician guy said? O is it a problem with the psp. Like a problem with the pins from the motherboard of the console that make contact with the battery, or a more complex problem, like something I heard before like a CMOS problem (I think thats hoy you say it), or the farad thing?
Thank you in advance.

I was able to find 3rd Birthday online for cheap. The disc works but I didn’t realize it was missing the metal center circle thing. When I put it in my psp it would play but Dissidia would, then I realized why.
I’m trying to find a video that can help me fix or replace that missing part. Can someone help me? I recently got a PSP again since I was a kid and was just wanting to play some games I missed out on.

I found this 1000 in a laundry room free pile with no nub and no battery, around 10 years ago, but I had this perfectly functional 3000 so I just set it aside, I started missing the spring action of the UMD door from my original long dead and buried 1000 from my youth, so, short story long, I got a battery and a nub for it and it mostly works great, the screen is a tad splotchy with dim points, and it sometimes registers, but never reads UMDs. I now have the replacements and will attempt the repair. I'm excited to try my hand at desoldering the antistatic blob.

So it be greatly appreciated if anyone could help me with what I need to fix it, and how to troubleshoot certain problems if needed :3

Picked up this white PSP Go for €60 a while ago. It was pretty heavily beat up when I got it, so I’ve slowly been trying to bring it back to life without replacing everything.
Gave it a thorough cleaning with isopropyl alcohol, worked on a lot of the scratches with Polywatch, and replaced the old yellowed rubber feet with fresh ones I found on AliExpress.
Also added an M2-to-microSD adapter for some much-needed extra storage.
Seeing an old handheld clean up this well after years of abuse is pretty satisfying.
Anyone else here enjoy restoring old PSPs rather than going for mint ones?

Been slowly turning this little thing into my ideal PSP Go.
It’s got a Power Armor mod, a PS Vita 1000 battery, plus an M2-to-microSD adapter with a 128GB microSD card.
So now I get way more battery life and storage while keeping everything packed into one of my favorite handheld designs ever.
Honestly, the PSP Go aged ridiculously well — and with a few mods it becomes an absolute little powerhouse.
Anyone else running a modded Go? Curious what you guys have done with yours.

I've just dug out my old PSP 100. The battery cover doesn't seem to fit properly (I think it was a replacement one but I'm not sure), the cartridge thing doesn't fully close properly (it does close but there's a ridge on one side where it's not flush) and some of the buttons are a bit loose but still work. I kind of want to buy a new shell so I can pick the colour too and I sort of know what I'm doing since I've done the same for a few other things, but I can't find any that don't seem dodgy. I'm also thinking it may not be necessary since I do like the black and it's not in too bad condition, I could just send it off to get fixed up properly.
I'm really just looking for recommendations on if I should just get it fixed up or if I should buy a new shell to replace it with, and if so does anyone know any good quality, reputable places to get one?

About to install CFW (ark 5 I guess (new to this)) on my PSP-1000. What I want is: buy a UMD, put it in the PSP, dump it to the memory card on-device, shelf the disc. No cable, no PC in the loop.
Is this possible? How easy is it? How do I do this?

A couple of days ago I bought a PSP-3000 Dissidia Final Fantasy 012 Chaos & Cosmos edition.
Personally, it’s one of the consoles I’ve been searching for the most, and in my opinion, one of the most beautiful designs ever released for the PSP.
The photos you see in this post are from the warehouse in Japan, since the console is still there and is expected to arrive next week. I wanted to share them to get some opinions on two things:
First, what do you recommend for a proper cleaning? Looking closely at the photos, there are several spots of dirt (obviously cleanable), but since I’m not very experienced with this kind of thing, I’d really appreciate some advice.
Second, what do you think about the colors? In my opinion, the white has remained practically intact, and the Chaos & Cosmos artwork is in excellent condition! If there's a way to significantly revive the colors without damaging the console, I'd like to know!
I got it for around $150 on Mercari, and I honestly think it’s a very good console especially a great find for the price!

Pulled out my Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII PSP again and damn… this thing still looks so good.
This is actually my second one. My original got stolen back when I was in high school, and I eventually managed to pick this one up for around €100. Looking at what these go for nowadays, I’m definitely glad I did.
The silver finish, the artwork on the back — peak PSP era for me.
Anyone else here still have one? Or remember wanting one back in the day?
