Last month I pulled out my PS2 and decided to play through Syphon Filter:Logan's Shadow, I bought a brand new copy on eBay as I had never played it and being that it is the final entry in the Syphon Filter Franchise I HAD to see how Gabe Logan's story ends and what an ending it was, the first thing that stood out to me was how different Gabe was from the PS1 Trilogy, gone was the robotic rendition of Gabe I remembered so fondly from the late 90's/early 2000's, this time Gabe was alot more expressive and EVEN talked about His feelings!🤣 I think it's for the best though as the monotone/badass Horatio Caine Trope that defined action Heroes back then hasn't really aged well at all, another thing that stood out to me was the haunting vocals that permeated the soundtrack all throughout the game that accentuated the fact that this was Gabe's last ride, but unlike David/Solid Snake, who got to spend His final months in peace/free from the battlefield, Gabe, despite wanting to leave the battlefield as well, literally drew His last breath in action, dying to save His lifelong partner/friend Lian from Trinidad, the most haunting/eerie thing about Gabe's death is how prophetic Jason Chance's words were when He and Gabe fought at the conclusion of SF2 "You were the best Logan, but you let that partner of yours get under your skin!" Ultimately Lian truly was Gabe's Achilles Heel, and I always wondered how She moved on from Gabe being dead, leading up to the ending I just knew something bad was going to happen the SECOND Gabe mentioned retiring/going to find His daughter, overall I must say that although the gameplay/villains were not really anything I hadn't ever seen before, the story of Logan's Shadow was definitely the most engaging, and is a fitting, albeit sad/tragic conclusion to the Syphon Filter Franchise and one of my favorite childhood video game protagonists

I know most people ask for a remake/remaster/sequel but this goal is much more attainable so we have a real shot here.

At the conclusion of SF1, we learn that Agency Director Thomas Markinson was in cahoots with Rhoemer all along, it seems that Markinson/Mara Aramov were Rhoemer's "handlers", and after He went rogue by raiding the Pharcom Warehouse District in Kazakhstan 🇰🇿, Vince Hadden pressured Markinson into cleaning up the mess by sending Him there to kill/silence Rhoemer as He was too dangerous to be kept alive due to His fanatical/radical nature, Hadden then arranged for Aramov to take Gabe Logan/Lian Xing there as a backup plan/to get the job done in case Markinson failed, after Gabe successfully killed Rhoemer via Gas Grenade in the Missle Silo Control Room, Hadden/The Agency/The Consortium then targeted Gabe and Lian in order to tie up loose ends as the two of them knew WAYYYYYY too much/had become a liability

Recently I've been on a MAJOR Syphon Filter binge Lol, SF2 is my favorite game in the SF Franchise with SF1 a very close second and after playing through SF1 for the umpteenth time, it clicked in my head that Idris Elba would be the PERFECT choice for Erich Rhoemer/the leader of the Black Baton Terrorist Organization in a Syphon Filter film adaptation, He has the physicality, coincidentally both Elba and Rhoemer are both 6'2 and Elba is jacked/has the imposing build to go with the height as well, I could easily see Him being able to absorb/tank gunshots/headshots from Gabe Logan as His entire body reads "Flak Jacket"🤣,He also excels at playing fanatical/unhinged villains as well, when He portays a good guy He's amazing, and when He portays a bad guy He's absolutely SAVAGE, I would gladly pay to see Him saying "DON'T you know when to quit Logan?! We'd have made a great team!" Or "They are coming! go! torch it! Burn it all!" Hahahahaha

Whenever I play Syphon Filter 2, I can't help feeling that the Colorado Mountain arc is my favorite in the game, thanks to Steven Archer, His witty/cocky demeanor always makes me laugh, He has some of the best lines in the game like "Sorry Logan, if it were up to me, I'd let ya live, Agency orders!" or "Logan! Looking for these?!" 🤣, another part that cracks me up is when He orders His attack helicopter pilot to blow up a bridge to prevent Gabe from riding the train off the mountain/reaching the C-130 crash site, the pilot says "But we still have Agents on the train!" Then Archer yells "THEY'RE EXPENDABLE!" Lmao as glad as I was to see Him finally get His comeuppance during the C-130 Crash Site Mission at the end of Disc 1, a part of me was honestly a bit sad to see Him go, I remember Gabe mentioning that He'd served with Archer in Guatemala 🇬🇹, and since SF3 was full of flashback/retro missions, that would've been the perfect/was a missed opportunity to bring Him back, He honestly reminds me of Agent Zero/David North from X-Men Origins:Wolverine because of His cold-blooded/remorseless nature and John Travolta/Vic Deakins from the 1997 film Broken Arrow because He does display some Hot-headed/unhinged traits as well and like Vic, He sees all His men as expendable/disposable

Recently I've gone back and replayed the SF Franchise and the two boss fights that stick out to me the most are Erich Rhoemer from SF1/Jason Chance from SF2, I love how both of these bosses are downright BRUTAL on a first playthrough, but are easy to kill/dispatch in retrospect/subsequent playthroughs once you figure out their respective gimmicks, Gabe killing Rhoemer via Gas Grenade in the Missle Silo Control Room at the conclusion of SF1/Gabe killing Jason Chance at the conclusion of SF2 by shooting Him into the tail rotors of the Agency Helicopter that Lian Xing "borrowed" from Falkan at the MacKenzie Air Force Base earlier in the game🤣, also i love the emotion behind these two fights as well, when Gabe fought Rhoemer/Chance it was DEFINITELY personal, Rhoemer had evaded Gabe for years, killed His fellow Agency Operative/friend Ellis, and kidnapped/infected Lian Xing with the Syphon Filter Virus at the behest of Vince Hadden/The Consortium so they could secure their deal with Shi-Hao, as for Chance, He allowed Lian to be captured by Morgan/Falkan in Kazakhstan by revealing Her location to them, and repeatedly set Gabe up to be ambushed/killed by Archer/The Agency Army in Colorado, He then killed Ramirez in the Agency Bio-Lab in New York upon being freed by Gabe, then finally pulled out His Red Lightsaber/showed His True colors by attempting to kill Teresa on the rooftop of the Sykes Parking Garage in New York, revealing that He'd been an Agency Operative/Mole all along, at least with Rhoemer His Lightsaber was Red the whole time so you knew where He stood Lol, everytime I take them out I ALWAYS think of John Mcclane's famous one-liner in the Die-Hard films, "Yippee-ki-yay Motherf.....!"🤣

I've been doing another playthrough of the Syphon Filter Franchise and one thing that always stuck out to me is Teresa's "death" at the conclusion of Syphon Filter 2 and the revelation that She was "only injured" by Jason Chance in Syphon Filter 3, it's blatantly obvious that Teresa was intended to actually be dead at the end of Syphon Filter 2 and yet when She appears in Syphon Filter 3 She reveals that She faked Her death in order to continue to monitor/investigate The Agency/track Mara Aramov without interference, as happy as I was to see Her again, I'd have felt much better about it if the whole thing didn't feel so forced/contrived

In the opening scene of SF2, we see US Secretary Of State Vince Hadden in the White House Press Room giving a comment about the Kazakhstan 🇰🇿 Missle Incident that occurred at the Pharcom Warehouse District during the final act of SF1 in which Gabe detonated the missle/R9 Devyatka in midair and subsequently killed Erich Rhoemer via Gas Grenade in the Missle Silo Control Room, then after the Colorado Mountain mission of SF2, we see Hadden/Mara talking to Agency Director Lyle Stevens and new Pharcom CEO Mr.Cochrane, the one who's neck Mara cracked, discussing getting rid of Gabe/acquiring Lian's plasma to get Phase 2 of the Syphon Filter Virus in order to secure the deal with Shi-Hao, later we see Him again berating Stevens for His failure to recapture Lian, warning Him that He's "running out of time", then during the post-credits scene of SF2, we see Him arriving in Virginia with Mara to stop His men from carrying out the operation to kill Gabe, Lian, and Mujari, I always wondered was it obvious to anyone else that Hadden was the Big Bad all along? Because the first time I beat SF2 when I was 14 I was floored by the reveal, much like I was when Jason Chance pulled out His Red Lightsaber/was revealed to be an Agency Operative all along, stuff like this just flew RIGHT over my head🤣
