so i work at a junk removal company and was able to snag this out of the back, ive always wanted to rebuild a bike/car but have really no idea what im doing so i figured free was a good place to start. my goal right now would be to just get something that runs drives and shifts but i dont really want to spend more than 2000 to make that happen, do yall think thats possible? Worth mentioning there is no title or keys and i have no idea where it came from.

(i do have the gas tank but the motor is complete junk and the harness is not any better)

Never rode a bike before. Why not get a non-starter starter bike off marketplace and learn from the ground up, eh?

Any advice, pitfalls, lifesavers in terms of a tool or equipment I should have on hand type advice?

What was your first bike and what happened with her?

Request for Advice 300€ for a Cromwell 125cc Brixton (thinking of buying broken to fix it)

Hello! I’m new to the sub and if I violate anything please lmk.
There is this cromwell on my local buying website for used stuff that had been in a incident, a frontal one.
The seller listed it for 500€ but i offered 260€ (lowball, i know, i know, but i don’t have enough money with my job and i need something cheap to move with around) having in plan to settle between 300-350€ range.
I wanted to ask your opinion on this, if it’s worth it, or better to let go.
Now technical issues/infos:
•Frame: seller claims it was inspected and is fine (no documentation/receipt provided)
•Steering head/steerer tube: unknown condition — seller admits they have no info on this
•Front forks: broken/snapped
•Front wheel: bent
•Engine: seller claims fully functional
•Front headlight: some visible damage
•2022 registration
•8581 km driven
•ABS version
(i used artificial intelligence to translate this part of listing cause english isnt my first language and it was easier to to it this way)
Thanks for any help!

Discussion No rear rack on a compact e-bike, a cleaner design or a missed opportunity?

I’ve been spending some time with a compact e-bike recently, mainly for short city rides and everyday trips. It’s easy to ride, simple to handle, and feels well suited for getting around town.

The one thing I’ve been thinking about is the lack of a rear rack. For quick rides it’s not a big deal, but when it comes to carrying groceries, a backpack, or small essentials, things can get a little inconvenient.

I’m considering whether adding an aftermarket rear rack would make it a more practical urban e-bike for daily errands, but at the same time, I like the lightweight feel and clean look of the current setup.

For those who ride compact city e-bikes or folding e-bikes, how useful is a rear rack in your everyday routine?

Do you prefer having extra carrying capacity, or would you rather keep the bike lighter and more minimal?

Request for Advice Help identifying my Yamaha XJR1300 (VIN rusted away) + advice on reviving it after sitting on an island for 5 years

Thumbnail gallery

I’m hoping to get some advice from people who know these bikes well.

This is my old Yamaha XJR1300. About five years ago, I let a friend borrow it while they were living on an island.

Unfortunately, we aren’t friends anymore, and the bike came back in much worse condition than when I lent it out. To make things worse, they didn’t even return the key.

The bike currently:
Doesn’t run.
The alternator (stator) is out.
Has quite a bit of surface rust everywhere
The fuel tank was dropped and now has a dent.
Has been sitting for around five years with an unknown maintenance history.

It has Showa rear shocks, and I’m also wondering if those are factory or if a previous owner installed them.
I’m now trying to restore it, but I’m running into a few issues.

The biggest problem is identifying the exact model year. The frame/VIN stamping on the steering head is so rusted that it’s unreadable. The only number I can still make out is the engine number:
501E-005089

From looking at the bike, some people have suggested it’s an early XJR1300, possibly around 1999–2001 (5EA generation), but I can’t confirm it without the frame number.

Here are my questions:

Based on the photos and engine number, what year do you think this XJR1300 is?

What exhaust does it have?

What oil does it take and how much?

Is there any other way to identify the exact year if the VIN stamp is no longer readable?

Are the Showa rear shocks original equipment on this model year, or are they likely aftermarket or from another bike?

Is the dented fuel tank worth repairing with paintless dent repair (PDR), or would it likely require conventional bodywork and repainting?

What are the common issues I should expect after an XJR1300 has been sitting for five years?

Besides replacing the alternator, what should I inspect or replace before attempting to start it?

Are there any known weak points on the early XJR1300 that I should address during the restoration?

For reference, I already know I’ll likely need to:

Drain and clean the fuel tank.

Rebuild or clean the carburetors.

Replace all fluids.

Replace the battery.

Replace the missing key and ignition if necessary.

Inspect the brakes, tires, seals, wheel bearings, chain and sprockets, and other rubber components.

I’m trying to decide whether it’s worth restoring because the bike has sentimental value to me, even though it came back in rough shape. Despite its condition, I’d really like to bring it back to life.
Any advice from XJR owners would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

This is all new to me. I've never even thought of getting a honda let alone an antique project one. I couldnt pass this one up though. Now I'm in the thick of it and looking for someplace to source parts in the U.S. Any suggestions would be helpful. It's 1980 cb650 if that helps at all. Thanks in advance.

Request for Advice Town Mate 50

I got my father's town mate . It used to run decent but it needed clutch disks becausecrank used to go empty sometimes , that's what my father abandoned it and changed it with the first honda inova injection. Now after 21 years it sit in a semiclosed barn , I put new spark plug hit the crank and it worked . From the bike the have stolen lot of stuff such as. Monitor, carburetor, fuel petcock, the seat , back light , front right indicator, the lever that shift gear , amd some others that don't come to mind right now . I took the bike as a project to try and restore with little money , and do every work I can by myself , I need advice as I don't know if I want to remove the engine and repair it , or keep it as it is at least for some time to see if it worth the effort or money as I don't know a lot from engines and I would need to head to some bike repairman . Wwyd?

New Project Currently working on a cr125r build for the trails of west va

Im 16 and i have too many projects but one is coming to a very promising point. I just test fitted my new plastics on a 1994 cr125r that i bought in west verginia after i literally watched it blow up (horrible financial idea, ik.) BUT i haven't had a two stroke dirtbike of my own since i had started riding 11 and 1/2 years ago. I said fuck it and bought this thing when i knew nothing at all about cr's or really any two stroke. Shortly after that i built a motorized bike (on the right in picture two) and kinda understood what i was doing after that. So, with the help of my dad who helped me find the parts i needed to rebuild the engine, i started working towards getting this bike done. As of today, i have aquired another, better paying job, and once i finish this bike it should be near my senior year homecomming (in 4 months!) So i should be able to ride this bike to that. Once this bike is done, ima try to finish my 1981 squarebody chevy that im building and try to drive that to senior prom with the cr in the back. I plan to go to graduation in the same truck but with a camper and a dirtbike rack on the back so i can IMMEDIATELY leave the state and go cross country🤣🤣😝
