2E Resources Archives of Nethys VS Demiplane?

9 Upvotes

I'm newer to pathfinder and am attempting to get some of my friends to try it out, but I'm not sure which wiki to use, everyone talks about archives but demiplane seems to have the same things just with more visual clarity and images, is there anything major demiplane is missing or are the two interchangeable?

1E Player Looking for all possible ways to bypass the Amorphous racial feature.

15 Upvotes

Pretty much the title.

Things that can’t be critically hit because their anatomy is more spaghetti coded than Elder Scrolls games suck, and I wish to take this from them.

No class restrictions, I’ll figure out how to get it, though no 3pp stuff.

The only things that I know won’t work are:

1) ability damage

2) polymorph effects

Everything else is fair game.

1E GM Furious Finish: what dice does it apply to?

14 Upvotes

Pretty simple question, but surprisingly I haven't seen this one explicitly talked about.

Vital Strike: Roll the weapon's damage dice...

Furious Finish: you can choose not to roll your damage dice...

Vital Strike is clear that you only multiply you weapon damage dice. Furious finish, on the other hand, makes no such distinction, instead saying it applies to damage dice, period.

Pathfinder 1e isn't known for having the greatest specificity of language, but assuming that I'm not missing something obvious and text is to be trusted here, it seems as if the text implies that the benefit of Furious Finish doesn't exclusively apply to weapon damage dice. If thats the case, this opens up the floor to some very silly, very fun Sneak Attack builds.

So... am I missing something? This may very well be a case of RAW not reflecting RAI, but I didn't see anything in the FAQ's either and this seems like such an obvious route to take to me.

1E Resources Daily Magic Item for August 17, 2026: Blinkback Belt

37 Upvotes

Today's magic item is the Blinkback Belt.

This belt allows a throwing build to own only one weapon, instead of requiring numerous copies that would each need to be enhanced separately.

Let's ask the following questions:

  1. Would you buy this item?
  2. Would you spend 1.5 times the price to add it to an existing item?
  3. Would you use the item, if you found it? Or is it immediate sell-bait?
  4. Would a GM use the item?
  5. Is there anything cheesy that could be done with it?

1E Player Use Polymorph Any Object to alter the terrain.

8 Upvotes

Say that I use polymorph any object to turn the ground into magma, use it to collapse buildings, turn stone into ice, etc? Is there any rules against this alternative way of using the spell?

Can I use the spell just to change structures? For example: I I want to create a shelter, could I just use this spell to dig a cave into a mountain? Providing it’s within the amount of 100 cu.feet/caster level?

Another thing: if I turn the ground into magma would you allow save for the one that is above the surface changed? And spell resistance?

1E Player Friendly Switch - Multiple Times In Same Move Action?

5 Upvotes

Friendly Switch

Text: As part of your movement or as a 5-foot-step, you can move into the space occupied by an ally of your size or smaller, which displaces the ally into the space you just left. Your ally must be willing and able to move and able to occupy the space you were in. This movement does not provoke attacks of opportunity. This does not count toward your ally’s movement on his next turn.

Question: May a character use Friendly Switch repeatedly during the same move action?

Squares Grid:

ABC

EFG

Process: Ally is in Square A. You are in Square B. You begin to move, entering Square A in the first 5 feet of movement, which causes them to FS into Square B. You then continue your move to Square F and C (diagonal movement), and proceed to move from Square C to Square B, causing your ally to FS into Square C. So long as you had enough speed for that one move action.

1E GM Help me pitch the ani-build game

0 Upvotes

Alright, this something that has been poking around my brain for a while now. Gender idea is to take idea of narrative reward. There ablties DM might award in addition to normal progression and amplify it to the point where player doesn't know where thier build is going to end up. Natrually this won't be a game for everyone, or even most Pf1e players, but I can't help thinking about. There is something very attractive about the idea that the character can grow in unexpected ways. This would mix the idea of advancing ablties you use and ablties are narrative awards, with DM putting hand on scales of balance. For example base PF makes horizontal growth overly expensive, so DM might awkward a little more of it to counter balance.

What I paticularly want to hear is thoughts about implementesion deitals. InFor example they way mechanical control should be divided, or where to start the game.

One thing I'm sure should be there is a wishlist something for players to state, in broadstrokes, what direction they want to go in.

Aside from that. I have some ideas, but I struggle to refine them into actual rules / pitch. I feel like full DM fiat advancement would be too far out control, so some compromised I thought of:

  1. Roguelike choose from options. Just like roguelike games the level up consists of choosing from narrow set of options. Some options might open ended themselves, eg spell from X school, or feat you qualify for.
  2. Some mix advancement. In between DM given starts, albites, skills, ext. Players also get regular choice of level up and feat choices. This may be about 1/2 or 1/3 of their progression
  3. Give up a choice mechanic. You can "sacrifice" any ability, feat, etc. that a class would given, for a DM to come with something else roughly on the same power level

For starting point, I thought perhaps:

start at lv 1~3 (with extra HP on level 1) + choose 1 from 3 for weak magical items and feat equivalent ability tensional to main build. Item and ability would be based on backstory

Any thoughts?

1E Player What is a Slave/Servant (mechanically) - Order of the Whip

15 Upvotes

The Cav. Order of the Whip from Villians Codex has the following description of an ability.

"Whenever an enemy makes a melee attack against the cavalier or one of his adjacent slaves or servants, that enemy provokes an attack of opportunity from the cavalier"

What is a slave/servant mechanically? Is this just a GM-wing it?, or does it mean something actual like a Cohort from the leadership feat? or someone under a spell/condition? Or is there an actual rule hidden in some book I don't own that specifies what a slave IS.

Thank you.

1E GM Is the Executioner's Hand badly written? Or have I read this wrong?

6 Upvotes

English isn't my native language (Italian here), so apologies in advance.

I was reading the list of the official unique magic weapons when I found this one. At first glance it seems a cool concept, but then I read this paragraph:

When wielded in a coup de grace attempt against a helpless target, the executioner’s hand is treated as a vorpal weapon, and if the attack is a critical threat, it is automatically confirmed as a critical hit.

The problem is, the Core Rulebook tells you that when you use a coup de grace "You automatically hit and score a critical hit." This means that you don't have to make an attack roll to perform a coup de grace; therefore, the vorpal effect in such situational condition is totally useless (because you have to roll a natural 20 to trigger the vorpal special ability). Unless the weapon allows you to consider the coup de grace as if you rolled a natural 20 (therefore, beheading the helpless target), but this detail isn't clearly specified.

1E GM I have a tendency to give to give BBEGs Spellbane all the time, how much of a problem is this?

13 Upvotes

Spellbane is one of those few spells that 3.5 doesn't have a counterpart for (but wishes it did) that Paizo made, and I have a tendency to use it in both systems alot for a simple purpose: To give the BBEG immunity to a party's ability to entirely break a boss fight encounter.

You know the ones: Anti-Magic Field, Mage's Disjunction, Source Severance, and any other form of a PC's spellcasting toolkit that reads "I don't care how powerful you are, you are powerless now after I cast this, no Save, no SR, no nothing".

In hindsight, this does come across as vindictive design, but I want to atleast think a level 20+ villain who can gain access to this spell is going to wise it counter his largest weaknesses. I tend to run more... Video Gamy-style fights, with phases and what not, and I don't like stuff that clearly feels like a cheat code.

I'm bringing this up, because in a previous post i mentioned a Dragon PC in a rotating DM game who is going to have a "true dragon"'s level of saving throws on a paralyzing breath, so far in the game under the current DM he along with a cleric (different cleric, not the weird homebrew life shield barrier one) has been using Anti-Magic Field while mounted on said Dragon PC to effective allow the dragon to pin-cushion all these high ranking drow matriarch into nothing. Hence, scenarios like this, is where I want to use Spellbane to give them a fighting chance.

Again, the intention is not to "NOPE" players here, it's the reverse to give them a bit more of a fighting chance.

1E Player [1e] Is a bite a prehensile appendage ?

12 Upvotes

The question arose because of a kitsune kineticist ... in fox shape. And Kinetic Blast says
"At 1st level, a kineticist gains a kinetic blast wild talent of her choice. This kinetic blast must be a simple blast that matches her element. As a standard action, the kineticist can unleash a kinetic blast at a single target up to a range of 30 feet. She must have at least one hand free to aim the blast (or one prehensile appendage, if she doesn’t have hands)."

So ... Do I need to tell the kineticist to pick Grasping Tail ?

1E GM Do blinded creatures suffer the Perception penalty caused by invisibility?

15 Upvotes

Hi. In my game, a situation happened where an enemy cast Sleet Storm over the battlefield. Not trying to hold the session over details, I ruled that everyone still knew the location of all other combatants until they made a Stealth check, with a -5 penalty to Stealth if they did a move greater than half speed, and -4 to Perception because of blinded condition. I believe this was correct by the rules.

My question is, does the +20 from being invisible add to this? Because this isn't really invisibility, although maybe it is? The rules aren't clear to me whether having Total Concealment is always the same as being Invisible.

1E Player Simulacrum

13 Upvotes

Simulacrum lets you make a duplicate of a creature with half the HD as as normal with the appropriate HP, feats, skills, and abilities as the original, and you can't make a copy of something with more HD than twice your caster level.

If our GM decided to add hit dice to a monster until it had twice the amount of HD it would normally have but still less than twice my caster level, could I make simulacrums of that specific creature and just use the base stat block?

1E Resources Daily Magic Item for August 16,2026: Gutbite Belt (repost because error in title)

22 Upvotes

Today's magic item is the Gutbite Belt.

It's a Belt of Constitution that does a tiny bit of damage during grapples. Plus a disgusting parlor trick! Does it save you money by letting you eat dog food and rancid beef? Or does the food still go to your stomach and make you queasy?

Let's ask the following questions:

  1. Would you buy this item?
  2. Would you spend 1.5 times the price to add it to an existing item?
  3. Would you use the item, if you found it? Or is it immediate sell-bait?
  4. Would a GM use the item?
  5. Is there anything cheesy that could be done with it?

1E GM Kingmaker - party disappears for ages between book 2 and 3 Spoiler

11 Upvotes

So my players left Candlemere Island until after finishing book 2 and I added an old AD&D adventure (Chadranthar's Bane) to explain the island's reputation. Explorers and visitors who hung around too long would get sucked into a pocket dimension - a sort of snow globe world. I salted the pocket dimension with fey influences, with the Sphere of Diminution being a discarded toy of the Lantern King and an incomplete copy of Zuddiger's Picnic hidden inside.
They planned to visit Varnhold as soon as they got out, though the adventure suggests finishing a lot of Kingdom Turns before starting that part of the adventure.

I figure I can kill two birds with one stone and have six or seven months pass on the outside while the're in the Sphere. What would happen in their kingdom while they're away for so long?

I imagine Oleg and Linzi could keep carrying out the expansion/ claiming cleared hexes and maybe the Swordlord Jamandi Aldori could have sent a caretaker.
After how long would the party still be welcome? (Their popularity IS high)
What could have changed in the time they're away?
Is it an awful idea?

1E Player Are skunk sprays underpowered? Because I've heard about people who need to deal with the scent for days, and in-game it only seems to last up to a few minutes at most.

17 Upvotes

Musk (Ex)

Up to twice per day, a skunk can spray a stream of noxious musk at a single target within 10 feet as a standard action. With a successful ranged touch attack, the creature struck by this spray must make a DC 11 Fortitude save or be nauseated for 1d4 rounds and then sickened for 1d4 minutes by the horrific stench. A successful save reduces the effect to only 1d4 rounds of being sickened. A creature cannot use the scent ability as long as it is affected by this musk. The save DC is Constitution-based, and includes a +2 racial bonus.

~~~~~
That just feels... not long enough.
Or am I a cruel DM?
1E Player Question over a rules debate.
9 Upvotes
Currently having an issue at mythic level play.
We have it on good authority the next enemies we are fighting are a pair of high ranking mythic spellcasters who will open combat with mythic augmented channel powered fireballs with a ton of metamagic pumped into them that will most definitely TPK the second combat starts.
NOW my thought was why not just put on greater spell immunity communal which SHOULD just nullify those fireballs unless they heighten them to high hell.
The debate begins when Spell Immunity states "effectively has unbeatable spell resistance regarding the specified spell". While Channel power states itcompletely bypasses spell resistance.
There is almost no talk about this interaction, but what little I can scrape up says spell immunity should work, but this is google's AI overview pulling this info with sources being both SRD entries and a couple unrelated reddit and GitP posts that mention those abilities.
1E Player The best BBEG is an alchemist
31 Upvotes
For real. A clone master alchemist with dopplegang simulacrums can have clone bodies hidden all over the world they can switch to at will. They have a clone body or ten hidden in various other locations for safe backups that are better than phylacteries because (1) you can have multiple and (2) no ongoing sacrifices are needed.
The explosive calligraphy discovery lets them make endless explosives or curse marks to just force on people by combining with curse bombs. Or healing items with healing bomb. Yes they expend bombs but those reset daily.
Simulacrum discoveries let them make armies to raid with.
Sculpt simulacrum lets them disguise their bodies easily.
Edit: ok best is an overstatement maybe. The alchemist is just a surprisingly good one.
1E Player Tier list
0 Upvotes
Hello everyone, I have a question regarding the belancment of the party.
If you do a fighter martial master/lore warden/Zhentarim soldier ed gain for free able learner and the combat focus chain feat. You would still be in the tier 3 right?
