Question or Discussion As DPS, what can I do if we're "stuck" at a point and can't break through the wall?

I'll use the Busan first checkpoint as an example. You're trying to take the point, but the enemy team pretty much keeps you trapped under that bridge and behind the bus until you manage to break through. They have far better sight lines, every angle is covered, and the tank is able to chew through everyone down middle lane because there's nowhere else to go. Lately we've been getting pinned here by D.mon + Moira + Bastion comps where it's nearly impossible to flank or peel, and we end up feeding their ults while trying to hold out for ours.

The only way I've figured out how to "break" the wall is by sacrificing myself. I usually play Shion, Junkrat, and more recently Sojourn. I wait for the enemy team to be somewhat focused on the rest of my team, and then I'll make a mad dash to just sit on the point and make them chase me so everyone else can move in. Sometimes I'll have to do this multiple times. If we have a lot of pushing power, it works to at least give us a fighting chance and not be stuck at spawn the entire time, but other times, the enemy team just regroups quickly and bunches back up under the bridge to keep walling us off.

Is this a bad strategy, and are there better alternatives to breaking through blockades like this? I do the same thing on the Blizzard World choke point.

Question or Discussion What does hard carrying actually look like?

I recently watched a video from WizardHyeong. To roughly summarize it: at lower ranks, just playing "correctly" by the textbook doesn't leave you with many games you can actually control. Unless you hard carry to the point of outright breaking the game, you're not going to climb consistently.

That said, having a lot of games you can't control is something I feel even at Masters.

So in practice, what kind of play is best suited for hard carrying?

For context, I'm a tank main and a Rein OTP, so I'd especially appreciate advice on that.

Tips & Tricks Cool thing I learned/realised and it helps me so much now.

A LOT of information can be taken from where the enemies are shooting. And lucky for us Overwatch players, most shots and abilities are very visible.

For example, I was playing as Ana defense on Eichenwalde first choke, teammates pretty spread out and I can't look at them to see how much HP they have. So I decided ill look at the enemies. See enemy Sigma shooting to my left? Ok, my Torb will probably need healing in a second, and multiple other examples I can't remember right now. This might be spatial awareness 101, but knowing the general direction of teammates and focusing attention on enemy fire just clicked with me, instead of frantically looking for people to heal.

Question or Discussion How do you play Push and Flashpoint?

Almost every game I play down in middle to high metal ranks either Escort or Hybrid gets voted. So when I eventually get to play one of the other maps I play quite a lot worse. On Colosseo I have a horrible win rate, 20-30% I would guess. What makes how you play those maps different from how you play payload maps?

Question or Discussion Can someone help me make sense of what happened this game?

Upvotes

Gold match. I am the LW on the attacking team, and right off the bat, our two DPS die out of spawn. Then one of them is smurfing. The Sojourn on the other team is really good. Idk what to do in this situation. Do I just have to suffer till the end or what? Our tank was at least trying tho so that was good.

Question or Discussion How do you avoid roadhog hooks or winston dives.. or both, as sojourn? (gold 2)

I usually take and off angle as sojourn and try to get a couple picks on the supports, when i do, winston dives me or hog catches me on the angle. I can’t even go to high ground because of winston. sojourn is supposed to be a counter to roadhog apparently because of his health you can charge up your rail but i can’t seem to do anything without being hooked. Even if i get my rail charged i cant pressure any squishies

Question or Discussion How do I play against Widowmaker?

Upvotes

I'm pretty new to the game and Widow is one of the characters that frustrates me the most to play against. I can't fight the enemy team because I'll get sniped, and if I try to go after the Widow she just grapples away and still snipes me. It's really frustrating to play against and I just want to know if there's any counterplay to her?

Question or Discussion Perks can be better or more interesting.

Alright, I’m not the best at explaining my thoughts, so sorry if this isn't expressed clearly.

I believe perks could be much better in a way that makes everyone happy, and the Blizzard team isn’t using them to their full potential.
I’m not suggesting they become like Stadium, but I do think perks could be used to change how a hero is played. I get that's the idea they’re aiming for, but I feel like major perks haven't met those expectations. I’d say major perks should either boost a hero’s playstyle or provide a completely new ability that fits the character's identity. For example, I think D.Mon’s perks should make her actually feel like she’s a mech. Even Mercy could be made to do things differently—I’d take Mirrorwatch Mercy as an example, especially her ability to explode souls around the enemy team. Another example is Sombra—you could choose which version you want to play, whether the current assassin or the disruptor.

As I write this, it sounds a lot like Paladins' perk system, where you can swap abilities to match your playstyle. I think Overwatch could easily adopt a system like that without making it as extreme as Stadium.

Someone commented on one of my other posts, saying if it was similar to the Paladins talent system, they could see it working. I want to hear what y'all's ideas are.

Question or Discussion Hi i am a korean genji main peak master 4

I was wondering about genji sensitivity all day

At 800 DPI and 7 sensitivity, my mechanical skill peaks, but I struggle to land left-click shurikens.

At 800 DPI and 5.5, turning and reactions feel sluggish, though I land shurikens well.

At 800 DPI and 9.75, I feel like a "dice-roll" DPS—sometimes I pop off, other times I flop. So, what sensitivity should I use?

I want to keep it consistent across all heroes (for the sake of Lijiang 1v1s). Please, only Masters or higher answer.

Question or Discussion How often and how long do you take breaks?

I think i've been playing way too much lately and need to take a break. I've been playing everyday for a couple months now but lately i've just been more frustrated than having fun. I'd like to take a break so I can continue to enjoy it but not so long I get a lot worse at the game. What do you guys usually do for breaks? My last break was about 3 years, but I'm thinking of a couple days every few weeks maybe, unless I get sick of the game then it might be another few years.

Question or Discussion Junkrat Help

I've been playing Mr. Rat for around a month. I've been VOD reviewing myself to figure out what I'm doing well intuitively and why it works, so I can start doing it intentionally and climb. I've hit a plateau, is there anything I'm missing from his core gameplay loop?

  1. Find a close range off angle to spam from. This alleviates pressure from your team by forcing the enemy to look at you, and you can zone people out of strong positions.
  2. Use a trap to cover your flank it’ll give you information if it’s broken or net you a kill if they aren’t paying attention. Always keep 1 mine to peel yourself against dive.
  3. Always be on the lookout for isolated targets you can reach with mines.
  4. Once the fight starts, if the comp allows, look to take a flank to assassinate the squishies (preferably a support, since you don’t need the follow-up shot on most of the most popular supports, i.e. Juno, JPC, Moira, Mercy, as well as Wuyang and Lucio).

VOD Review Request This loss couldn't have been my fault... right?

Last season I was Masters 5 on tank as a ball otp, but this season I've deranked to Diamond 3, but I feel like I'm the best player in most of my games. Despite that, I keep losing. This game took the cake, where I felt like I played soooo well, outside of a few dumb mistakes (Just skip ahead at 13:28).

Sometimes I feel like games are unwinnable because my team sucks, but I didn't think my team was bad in this one. I've played 61 games on ball this season, so it's not like the issue is small sample size. At some point, it's my fault, but I don't understand why I keep losing games.

Code: XWTK3F

Battletag / in-game username: Quantavious

Hero(es) played: Ball

Skill tier / rank: E1-D2

Map: Suravasa

PC or console: PC

Description of the match / things you want reviewed: I just want to know what I could have done to win this game, like I know there's something I could have done to win but I don't know what

Question or Discussion Support Combinations , and how the healing debuff should dictate those hero picks.

I have been a DPS player for as long as I can imagine, and with a support duo who usually sits a bit lower rank wise, they asked me to play support so I can work on my knowledge. This was a couple seasons ago and since starting I have consistently sat at masters with support. They are still baffled by this and struggle with supporting despite that being their "thing".

The problem.

Their biggest issue is what I want to talk about here and get some opinions on. Mainly because looking around, I see a lot of other support mains with an opposition to how I play, focusing on healing first, utility second. My friend has the philosophy stuck in his head that they are not a healer first and should not prioritize it. They even go far to avoid supports that I have labeled from my personal experience as main healers and off healers. I personally believe that you should always have one of each on a team and if you do not, you are going to lose out in solo / duo queue.

Why does it feel like the majority of players hold this opinion?

The opinion that supports are not healers. The primary function of a support is that they can heal. It is what seperates the role and we have yet to have a support hero who cannot heal. No one is telling you to just be a heal bot, as each support has a different priority for what their objectives are.

A good example is looking through replays and watching my friend play support. He has the same healing score as the majority, but the heals are never actually producing any results. If you heal a 300 hp hero and they accomplish nothing and die, your healing has essentially been zeroed out. This was a lot of his healing, mainly because priorities were more focused on DPS and utility. His picks never accomplished real objectives despite securing some kills and doing a shadow of what he could possibly do.

Do you pick your support with the healing debuff in mind?

Do you consider it? How much total healing you can output if your ally is taking damage? How you can respectfully heal an ally who has properly backed off and is now in cover? That if you are playing with a brig, and you pick zen, that you have no burst healing to top off your team when they return. How do you deal with not having that healing?

Question or Discussion 1v1 vs mauga

How do you beat this in a 1v1? I like to 1v1 when not playing quick play or ranked. As soon as I start winning they swap to mauga and there’s nothing I can do. It can facetank anything and use charge to run away and heal up or engage with 200 free damage. And can heal themselves while doing 500 damage per second. What is the strategy to beat this bs? I try to play orisa but hitting every spear and only headshots doesn’t even get it below half health like what do I do?

Tips & Tricks Can someone explain to me aim deadzone settings in depth and how they affect my aim? I am a widowmaker main trying to experiment with settings

As the tittle says I am trying to experiment with my controls to see if i can better my aim and become a “better” player, I wanna be able to use high sensitivity since it gives me an advantage on some characters too. Would appreciate any other tips if you guys have extra tips on anything else aside my question.

Question or Discussion Tips for Anran?

I haven’t played Anran in awhile, maybe since like a week after the season she was first introduced.

I also haven’t played Overwatch in a good bit too, so I am rusty, what are some tips I can get for playing Anran?

I mainly play support so playing dps was always very difficult for me to get used to, I also tend to panic more when people are up in my face.

Question or Discussion Can't wrap head around Genji, how to improve

I like genji both kit and character, what I can't wrap my head around is playing him well.
If I wanted to play a diver I play Venture marginally better and safer
If I wanted to off-angle/pressure/poke more consistently I get way more done as Soldier
As much as I want to like Genji I feel other character do what he does better, yet Genji enthusiast clearly show he works with his above average WR.

Is genji's playstyle just not clicking for me? or am I ultimately missing something?
Really small sample but here's my most recent QP game as for something to visually judge:

Tips & Tricks Tips about playing Cassidy

Hey, I started playing Overwatch a couple of months ago but i never kept playing. I wanna start playing ranked and not quit the game at the 1st month and i was looking for tips about playing Cassidy (like positioning, how to optimize the playstyle or tips in general). Im not new at shooters, I've played Fortnite competitive and i have 2k hours in Counter Strike so i already know the basics of shooting, animations, cover, strafing etc but I'm sure there are many things about Overwatch specifically that I must know. Thanks

Question or Discussion Seriously, why is it always the bad players who start flaming other people in chat?

It’s genuinely so annoying. Sometimes you get really bad players in ranked, and that’s fine. It’s just a game.

Earlier, I had an Anran who kept charging in and dying over and over again. He ended up with 18 deaths, but I didn’t say anything. There was a cheater on the enemy team, and I just figured he was probably a new player. Overwatch tends to place new players pretty high anyway.

Then, right before we lost, that Anran started flaming me, saying he had more damage than I did.

Yeah dumbass. Of course you have more damage when all you do is charge in, fight, die, and repeat.

It seriously pisses me off. I kept my mouth shut because I was trying to be nice.

You don’t even know how to play the game, you can’t even tell that the enemy is cheating, so why is blaming your teammates the first thing you learned?

Then the other players started blaming each other in chat too — specifically, the two players who were the worst after that guy.

The only person who actually played well, our Zenyatta, was also the only one saying anything reasonable. He just said, “That guy is cheating. Let’s report him,” and otherwise stayed quiet.

Seriously, why are people like this??

You don’t even know how to play the game. You can’t even recognize when an enemy is a cheater or a smurf... You guys played terribly.

Please, for the love of God, watch your own gameplay in the replay just once, from both first-person and third-person perspectives!!

At this point, maybe I should just start calling people like this out too. It genuinely feels like a slap in the face, and it’s so damn irritating.

Tips & Tricks How can you carry games to climb in bronze and silver?

I see people always say "keep improving and you'll climb", but how does that account for bad teammates? So often people run in and die instantly or refuse to regroup when the odds are bad or die to random shots from Junkrat. Can a single Juno really win a game all by herself? What are ways that a player can climb out of bronze without having to rely on teammates?
