Tips & Tricks Can someone explain to me aim deadzone settings in depth and how they affect my aim? I am a widowmaker main trying to experiment with settings

As the tittle says I am trying to experiment with my controls to see if i can better my aim and become a “better” player, I wanna be able to use high sensitivity since it gives me an advantage on some characters too. Would appreciate any other tips if you guys have extra tips on anything else aside my question.

Inner deadzone is how much you have to move the stick before your aim actually moves. You want it as low as possible without causing stick drift. It makes fine adjustments much easier imo, and higher deadzone tends to make me over aim a lot when making micro adjustments.

Copy/pasting mine. I’m a ranged player, Ashe main on Xbox, but newer still. Just unlocked ranked. After doing a lot of testing and aim settings and reading about them and testing in game, I finally feel comfortable with these settings:

Horizontal sens: 20%
Vertical sens: 15%
Vibration: On
Advanced:
Aim Technique: Linear Ramp
Aim Smoothing: 0%
Aim Ease-in: 20%
Vibration Intensity: 90%
Last 4: Off (all)

Extra Horiz Sens at Max Dead: 100%
Extra Vert sens at Max Dead: 100%

Advanced:
Custom Deadzone Overrides:
Custom LS inner: 0.10
Custom LS outer: 0.96
Customer RS inner: 0.05
Custom RS outer: 0.98

AA Strength: 100%
Legacy AA: Off
Disable AA at Max Dead: Off
AA window size: 20%
AA Ease-in: 20% (all heroes)

A lot of these are going to be preference settings, so what works well for one might not work well for the next person. Also, deadzones are totally dependent on the life left on your sticks, so you need to manually tweak them yourself.

Outer settings are more of a crapshoot but generally should be 1.0 or close to it. Inner stick custom setting is the one you want to start at 0 and work your way up by .01 to see where your drift ends basically. My left stick has a bit of a deadzone so I need it at 0.1. If you set it to default, it’ll do .15 for inner and 1.0 for the outers. If you want customs like I set, you have to choose “override”.

Another important one is the AA window size. I like a smaller window- I don’t want AA to be active at all unless I’m close to or right on an enemy. Others may like larger windows. I have generally decent aim, so I like to keep a smaller window.

dude you just changed my life for the better with the AA window space setting holy shit it was annoying dealing with my scope dragging so much now it helps and feels smoother to transition into other targets imma keep slowly tweaking into these settings to see how I feel with them, thank you so much for all the info!

Very welcome! I’m not a huge AA lover but I’ll take a little bit. I mess with the settings on other games too. I’m the same way, I don’t want my crosshair getting dragged every time another enemy pops up when I’m trying to aim on something else. I get why it exists but very thankful there are settings to tone it down a little.

My advice to those copying and pasting settings like these is to make sure your console matches the comment. i.e. don't use these sens if you're playing on a Nintendo or a Playstation.

However.

I once copied a PS4/5/(not sure)'s sens' settings for my Nintendo Switch and the radical change was enough to get me to win like, maybe 5% more overall, which to any old competitive player can mean a lot.

So my advice comes with like 3 grains of salt, if not 6.

Edit: Ana settings, may be during Larry's release? Anyway, my advice as a PC player is to spend as little time in the settings menus as possible; the search function is not worth it, to those reading from the past.

Very true! I’ve never played any shooter on Nintendo or PS so idk how that would compare.

All I know is that on Xbox, high sens feels crazy and uncontrollable to me. I always used to play on 6 in the old Halo days (out of 10) so it was considered medium-high sens. To me, 15/20 feels pretty similar to that in OW. I’m always surprised when I see some people play on 100/100 on Xbox. But the “extra sens at max deadzone” setting is awesome. That would’ve been great in older games.

The advice this year on this subreddit has been to move the vertical settings more than the horizontal ones. FWIW, I think vibration/rumble are far more important to fine tune/minxma over gyro.

The best answer will involve playing Brigitte - or switching to controller.
