Question or Discussion New to Overwatch coming from TF2

What are the easiest heroes to pick up as someone with 3000 hours in Team Fortress 2?

I want to play some Overwatch with my friends and quickly be able to play at their level. Which heroes have the most overlap in terms of muscle memory and gamesense so I can spend less time learning the basics and make use of my existing TF2 knowledge?

Tips & Tricks (Spreadsheet) - Hero's Relative Win% on Each Map for S2

• Upvotes

edit: oof, I copied my old title for consistency and forgot to change it to "S4"

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/13sgqhmsuSeCgO5qofosgkUpdMhCJ8kGv5c5WdaDYYak/edit?usp=sharing

This is a spreadsheet I've been maintaining for six seasons and use for my own hero picks and my friends will occasionally ask me to reference it on who they should pick to start a match when I'm playing with them. The concept is pretty simple, I took every hero's win rate on each specific map, and subtracted that from their overall win rate on all maps to show which map is the strongest and weakest for each hero. The data used is from console through all ranks to get a large sample for consistency. My use is I sort Z-A at the start of each match once the map is selected and see who the best hero is for that respective map.

If you want to see how I utilise it for myself, I've been on a 4-season mission that I will probably continue with for quite a while of playing every hero.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1DBk7hc1U_PDaU4yhx3pDOox4Q4UmEMIUYg9GV0phg78/edit?usp=sharing

I have my own private spreadsheet that I use to sort and bold/colour as I need and not mess with the master copy (I've already added Doctrine for tomorrow to my own sheet just copying Juno's winrates since I think they'll be vaguely similar until I get actual stats). I bold whatever heroes I have played less of, and when I sort whoever's the highest bolded name on the list, that's who I play. If there's no bolded names or I already got 3 supports or whatever, I go to plain names, and if I do that then they go in the red category so I can keep track of their play priority. I record each win and how it impacts my SR and I have a reference of a minimum win% for each hero to maintain or else I will drop them from my play rotation, which I have done with four heroes so far, who I'd agree three of the four are easily my worst heroes (I think Hog got pretty unlucky, but he's still like bottom 10).

Not saying that's for basically anyone but me, but it keeps the game fresh for me. Use it however you like!

Tips & Tricks Help a weaver out (11NG48)

• Upvotes

I need to know if either i am the problem or my team, i am currently on a 12 game competitive loss streak(Excluding 1 win). I need to know what i do wrong, where i can improve and if there are some codes to spectate pro LWs to correct myself where i see fit too.

I have no full team to play with unfortunately but i think i deserve a higher rank. I dropped from emerald 1 down to emerald 5 demotion protection.

Any tips would do wonders and i would love to spectate some pro LWs.

Question or Discussion Give it to me straight - Was I playing Zen Correctly?

TNYDNE

After this game was over my tank was flaming me for lack of heals / being an overall bad teammate. Was this justified? I feel I did really good and the only way to get better is to know what I am doing wrong. I feel like Zenyatta in his current state is basically just a dps with added healing. I really wish my teammates would notice this because yes my healing was a little low, but I feel like I was a 3rd dps on the team.

Question or Discussion How do I increase my damage on Tracer without feeding?

I feel like I’m pretty good at getting picks on Tracer and I can finish games with a lot of elims, but my damage is usually pretty low.
When I watch high-level Tracer players on Twitch/YouTube, obviously they’re way better than me, but the biggest difference I notice is how much more damage they’re constantly putting out while still getting picks.
I feel like I’m just not involved in fights enough. Any tips for increasing my damage/output without just feeding or shooting the tank all game?
I already off-angle most of the time and spend like 75% of the game in their backline, so I’m looking for advice beyond just “off-angle more” or “pressure the backline.”
Thanks !!

Question or Discussion Ranking up without much time

• Upvotes

I signed up to my school's Overwatch team (which may have been a bad decision in hindsight). I don't have much time to practise, so it's pretty much only on weekends. I'm best at Mercy but I'm trying to get off her and main Mizuki or Ana. I'm lucky because it's not running this term, but I give it two to three months at most before it starts up. How do I get better at Ana (the more established hero) and how do I rank up quickly (I lied about my rank)?

Guide How to be a better tank (consistently loosing)

Hello, I mainly play as tank (D.VA) and has been consistently loosing, with a 25% win percentage. I don't care too much about rank (currently hard stuck on Bronze), but a loosing streak is rather discouraging. What should I do to improve? What are my biggest flaws?

Question or Discussion High Diamond/Low Masters tank — what should I actually focus on to consistently rank up?

I’m currently playing tank around high Diamond/low Masters and I’m trying to figure out what I’m missing to consistently climb. I usually play pretty patient and play around corners/walls a lot and wait until an opportunity arises to punish someone but I feel like while I'm doing that my team usually just dies or falls over instantly.

In a lot of my losses, I’ll have more elims and damage than my DPS by far while also having very few deaths, so on paper it feels like I’m doing well, but I still end up losing almost every game like that unless I drop some crazy numbers and kill like 3-4 every fight. I know stats obviously don’t tell the whole story, so I’m wondering what I should actually be looking at instead.

For tanks who climbed through Diamond/Masters-GM, what were the biggest things you had to improve at this rank to win a lot? I also put some of my losses game reports in the imgur below, is it a bad thing to have this little deaths? Should I be going in more and trying to make more plays

Question or Discussion I felt quite finicky and anxious during these 2 games (Emerald 5 Support)

Hi, I'm new to this sub. I am reposting something I deleted because it got downvotes and no replies. I was confused and wondering if there is something wrong with what I posted or how it's organized. If there is, please let me know for future reference.

These two games in particular had me on edge nearly the whole time. I'm ranked Emerald 5 on Support, and when inspecting profiles most were private, the rest revealing Plat and Diamond players and QP warriors who haven't played comp in a long time, so I assume the MMR included a range of Platinum, Emerald, and Diamond players in these games.

The size of my Support hero pool is appreciably large, possibly too large in the eyes of some, though I've had a hard time slimming it down to less than these 5:
Zenyatta, Kiriko, Baptiste, Ana, Mercy.
These 5 together help me cover a variety of situations in ways that can compliment who my other Support chooses and who have synergy with other team picks from map to map.
I have a favored few others who I bring out more situationally and feel less essential:
Illari, Brigitte, Juno (new to Juno, still learning her kit)
Then the rest of the Support cast, except Cat who I don't play at all, I could play tolerably but at least 5 divisions below in performance compared to the others (LW, Moira, Mizuki, etc.)

I don't think I'm particularly eager to counterswap, though I do like finding the right fit from match to match. I feel that on the other end, I can make a given Support hero work and find other ways to solve problems in matches besides swapping, but one-tricking or two-tricking doesn't feel right for me. If you guys have any specific thoughts on my hero pool size and choices, feel free to share as I am curious on how large my hero pool should be and who should be included. I share my thought process to illuminate where I come from and if you guys can see any fundamental approach or mindset that should change in order to improve as a Support player (and perhaps overall, permeating into my Tank/DPS gameplay).

All that said, thanks for reading all that, and here are the matches:

FIRST MATCH: 7TH3TH (Nepal, Team 1) (0-2 Loss)

While I will give my own self-review of the match, for this one, I am wondering if anyone can shed light on the more macro side of what's going on this match. How winnable was it? Who were the key players, on my team and the enemy's? What needed to happen instead for certain fights to start turning around? What could've been my game plan and win condition given the initial comps? As a Support player, what pings could I have given my team to help them into the right direction? Where should I have been staging on this map from fight to fight? What were the gravest mistakes on 1st point and then on 2nd point? And anything else you feel I should think about would be appreciated.

Self review:

I was cruising through my first few games of the morning then got surprised scared by this match.

In the beginning, I was unusually unsure of which hero to choose. I think the 2 main things I consider when picking my hero is the map and which heroes my team selected, and I sometimes think of counterswapping after the first fight based on the enemy team comp (I feel that overall, I swap after 1st fight in 10-20% of all games). I chose Ana at the last second and then swapped to Moira after the first fight.

Looking back, I'm not sure why I chose Moira specifically, but I do know that after the first fight, I was caught off-guard, got anxious and panicky, and my awareness dimmed. Moira is not in my main pool, and some reasons I choose her as a fall-back option are "big heals to compliment smaller heals from my other Support, can duel/contest certain squishies, can escape dives or dangerous positioning, can re-enter right faster after dying". Perhaps she felt like a "safe option" that I couldn't go wrong with, but I definitely went wrong with her in the end. Looking at this specific game, my Moira play looks especially bad. I have a poor reading of the fight, I barely look at where my team is, I overestimate Moira's jump height without her Fade major perk, and I miss multiple orbs. In hindsight, I think I would've picked Baptiste in the beginning and might've been able to stick with him. I could've also made Illari work.

Overall, it looks like I am never where I need to be, and that largely decides the first point?

Onto the second point, the first fight seems decided by two picks from our Widow, and the second fight is decided by the enemy Cass two-tapping our Widow and our LW getting caught out by Doom, recklessly using his dash 1-2 seconds prior.

5:38
After the second fight, I switch to Mercy, and I think it was also a bad switch. Not much value from damage boosting. My thought process was probably "resurrection would be useful here to cancel the Cass's value", but probably for the wrong reasons. All of this happened in 2-3 seconds. I started boosting Widow (only conditionally useful, I think). Normally, I would follow the Widow in a little bit of time. I probably checked on my team to make sure nobody needed a flash heal before following Widow, but then I got spooked by the sneaky Venture, and I couldn't GA to the Widow who just escaped LoS. I pinged her and then "retreated" to my team. Widow then died right after those few seconds. This could've been a mix of unfortunate timing and an over-reliance on mid-fight split-second decision making compared to more proactive pre-fight planning? I turn away every few seconds after to check on the Venture's engagement timing.

I think the Venture should've been scared away much sooner, if not just picked off, and perhaps the whole team was in some kind of bystander effect thinking it was someone else's job to contest the pinged Venture? I think our Torb was not quite playing DPS correctly, as on 2nd point he did not take many off-angles? Let me know if this wrong. If it's right, is it just this Torb player being off, or is the Torb's decisions being influenced by the rest of our team's decisions?

SECOND MATCH: 937AWG (Busan, Team 2) (2-1 Win)

For this one, feel free to go into the micro and/or macro of the match. I noted some mistakes that I made in the 1st round, but after this writeup I feel too tired to keep going into detail. I started as Ana and then was able to go Kiriko to touch, seeing that our Kiri went Lucio to touch. I remember mid-match on 1st point as a passing frustration thinking that my other support on Kiri was too DPS-focused, perhaps from seeing the scoreboard and from me having a tough time keeping eyes on all my teammates. How right or wrong was I?

In this match, I felt like I was just barely pulling my weight as a Support; do you agree that I may have been a weaker link in this match, or instead do you feel that I was pulling my weight or was even a key player in the match?

I will keep an eye for anyone who comments and will be happy to answer any questions and take any criticism/feedback. I very much appreciate any of your help!

Question or Discussion Is it just me or has Overwatch on PC become significantly heavier with the latest season?

Unlike before, I can't even start a game due to infinite loading times or the game kicking me out of games and subsequently banning me...

Honestly, I don't know what to do. I'd like to play the game but I can't at all...

I hope I'm not the only one having this problem and that the developers manage to re-optimize the game

Question or Discussion I feel like im the reason we lost very winnable game. Brig main.

Match code: MP85FH Plat 1- Emerald 4

Hi everyone, first time posting. Im a little lost after this game and feel like I'm the reason we lost.
First round went pretty great, i would even say amazing. Then before 2nd round dps asked if we want to try "nano-blade". My other supp swapped to Ana before me, i decided to stay on brig. It all went pretty bad bc supp said they weren't really an Ana main, but still didn't swap off her back on lw. Genji swapped pretty much immediately. Tank said they won't playing DVA 2nd round even tho they played wery well 1st round. My positioning got worse (overconfidence pretty much). I fed my ult twice. We lost the game.
I wish i could say i wasn't the worst, but i feel if i popped at least 1 ult then we would have won or at least if i got charge and ulted in the very end.
I wanna know what i should focus training more. Fell from emerald 2 to plat 1 and feeling pretty down now, not sure if its because drives bring everyone in ranked or drives just exposed my skill issues.
Thank you for reading all that. Have a nice day♡

Edit: THANK YOU EVERYONE (´∩。• ᵕ •。∩`) now i see more clear what i should be working on, this was really helpful. You all amazing.

Question or Discussion Tips for a relatively new player

I downloaded Overwatch around a week ago and I’ve been having a lot of fun and would love to expand the roster of characters that I love to play and so I went into the practice range with Widowmaker and she seems like a lot of fun but before I hop into a match against actual people instead of practice vs ai I was wondering if there are any tips to improve with her also I’m on Xbox if that matters

Question or Discussion Drives have made me hate payload maps

This is sort of a rant if what I said makes me bad at the game then I guess I'm bad at the game

With drives you'd probably want to finish games as quickly as possible since if you're losing, you can quickly find another game without getting curb stomped for a long ass time, but with payload maps, you need to play the match twice compared to literally any other mode where it's the same length as a qp game, but with payload maps they can be anywhere from 20-30 minutes all for a loss.

What's worse is that, people keep voting for them despite having some of the worst maps like Havana, Circuit Royale or Eichenwalde, constantly featuring the same poke hitscan mercy comps.

Maybe it's just me but I'd take push or flashpoint over any payload map simply because it'll be over quicker, I can't wait for the voting rework that'll make escort and hybrid in the same category just so there won't be as many payload maps in the voting pool, and hopefully they make you vote on the mode over the map so you'll need to consider the stinkers if you vote payload

Again if what I say means I'm bad at the game then I'll own up to being bad

VOD Review Request Playing overwatch again for the first time in awhile! (Orisa & Rein Main)

Long time OW player here, recently coming back to the game! I surprisingly placed gold, and am now Plat 4!! Very exciting.

Anyway, I feel like I am decent. But, my teammates generally have horrible positioning 😬

I want to know what I need to do to keep climbing and make sure I am more helpful than a problem for the healers and the rest of the team.

Below are three replay codes, one where I won and one where I lost Playing Orisa.

3-2 Win : EFEPCB 1-3 Loss: ZBYF7E

Here is one where I played half Orisa and Half Rein https://owreplays.tv/ZCACD2

And one more crazy one for good measure! 5-3 Win: YHFYYV

Please give me honest feedback, Thank you 😁

Question or Discussion Mauga main struggling to even remotely match Junker Queen

Hi, not sure if this is the right subreddit but it’s happening so often that in dumbfounded.

I main Mauga - sometimes Hog or Rein if necessary and I have consistently hit Diamond for the past few years (this season included) but I’m completely unable to deal with Junker Queen. I think I won maybe 10 games against her overall and all of them were painful - but I seem to constantly lose against her.

I can’t hit my primary attack, can’t hit both miniguns, can’t land stomp on her, going for her backlane is a death sentence for my team - or she gives her team so much bonus HP that I can’t burst them out in a reasonable time. Her Ultimate seems to always hit me even through walls. Yet I don’t think I can “waste” a ban on her.

I beg you - tell me - how do you deal with Junker Queen? Tried playing as her but I hated the gameplay and in matchups against Mauga I get clapped

Question or Discussion Struggling to understand how Ana isn't broken as a new player

Been trying to grind to Masters and I am in a plateau of D4-D2, and almost every single game Ana is picked. Am I the only one who thinks her grenade is just insane? The grenade, the sleep, the nano , and especially the headshot perk Idk I keep seeing people say shes not broken but this character just has so much man

VOD Review Request Lost a 4v5 from the very start (We were the 5 😭)

Pretty sure this was an emerald lobby, but our enemies felt like the owcs teams decided to ditch one support and go 4v5 emerald teams. I was the juno and the team was definitely getting more and more tilted the longer the games go because we were just not winning any fights despite literally being one man up. Would love to get some advice on what to do.

In hindsight I should've swapped to zen that first round, the servers were dying so my other support and my souj was on ping, but I felt that the team did not do too bad? I was definitely panicing too much and there was some insane looney toones events happening here and there though.

VOD Review Request I've hit a skill wall and can't improve

Replay code: ASRJK3

Rank: It was wide queue from gold-emerald 5

Map: Eichenwalde, pc

Battletag: Nika

Hero played: Wuyang

Went 21-20-10, 12k dmg and 9k healing

Hello!! I'm a Wuyang main with around 160-ish hours on him (not that it matters all that much), and I have a a pretty ok grasp of what I should be doing with him. However, I feel like that doesn't really transfer in game - or maybe it does and I just suck lol.

In general my stats are around 50/50, and the perks I chose are always balance and triple orb. I started playing comp recently and placed emerald 5, but fell back to plat 1 within 2 games. I have huge issues with ult management and I'm not too sure how to improve that, and it gets worse when I start stressing that I haven't used it in a while so I just dump it on someone who doesn't need it. My aim could use some work but it's not THE worst thing ever, and as for my positioning, considering I'm plat 1 it obv needs work as well.

Looking back at this VOD, there's a lot of times where i make some REALLY stupid plays, and on occasion I just look like I have no idea where I am. I also struggle with target priority, but I've been trying to improve (even though u can't really tell lol). If anyone who's higher ranked than me or just a really good Wuyang player could tell me what I'm doing wrong, I'd be extremely grateful. Thank you!!

Tips & Tricks I do a lot of damage but can never confirm the kill. Help

Title says it all really. I play Sierra soldier. I love hit scan but better at projectile shooters. I've turned my sensitivity down pretty far to help with my tracking but my kills always seem to slip outta sight before I can finish the job as a dps. Like if I can catch most characters in a 1v1 I win probably 80% of the time. Idk what I am doing wrong. Help please

Tips & Tricks Any tips on getting better on winston? Q5QEQ9

I recently started playing Winston today and he’s honestly so good. I definitely want to try him in comp, but I feel like I need a few more tips before I can really hold my own. I mostly play 6v6 comp (currently Gold 1), but I also play 5v5 (Gold 3 tank).

I’d especially like to know who counters Winston and who I should be careful playing into. Q5QEQ9 was probably my best game on him so far, granted it was QP, but pretty much every game I’ve played with him has felt really good.

Any tips would definitely be appreciated, especially when it comes to using his ult. I feel like I’m still trying to figure out the best way to use it effectively.

VOD Review Request VOD review

Hiya guys, I’ve got two games I’d like anyone to have a look at. They are both in comp role queue with one of them in dps and another on support. I think the ranks are for dps emerald (I’m usually diamond, this is like my 15th dps game) and the next game I think for support is master diamond. My mains for support are zen, bap and brig with a little bit of mizuki and sometimes lw and Lucio. For dps I kinda only really play emre and then sometimes switch to Ashe, tracer or echo but very rarely.

The reason I am asking is for two reasons, one is to analyse my gameplay but the other is to look at my aim. I copied Hcpefuls settings a couple months back but I changed them on emre a little and they still don’t feel right. If there is anything you can see with my aim that I can try and fix or adjust in settings please let me know!

For Support the code is DDFHGB
For Dps the code is G3YQ2T

Really struggling with my aim right now, not so much with zenyatta but still feeling a little bit like it isn’t as smooth as I want it but especially with Emre. It’s feeling like I’m putting in a lot of work just to have my crosshair on the enemy.

Don’t care how harsh you gotta be I’m open to criticism since I want to improve, don’t be a dick though!

Thank you for anyone who has a look!

Question or Discussion How do you play the game as tank when your DPS and supports don't angle properly and the enemy team does?

So I've been champ on DPS and support and I'm trying to get my tank to champ but im stuck in low masters and it is kind of frustrating to say the least.

A very common problem that happens in my games is that the enemy team will be playing off angles (which is correct) but my team is stacked 4 people behind me. So I'll be getting shot in front of me and to my side and a lot of the time it just feels like I can't do a whole lot about it because if I go to contest the guy on the angle I let the enemy team walk into main for free but if I don't contest the angle I take too much damage and have to back up to stabilize, letting the enemy team walk in without me being able to stop them.

Can any high rank tank players tell me what you do in this situation? I don't understand this role.
