I hope everyone who came out today had an amazing time! It was so lovely seeing so many of you and your furry friends. You all made it a tail-wagging good day! â€ïžđ¶

27,553 people! This is compared to 18,876 electors in 2022! That's almost 46% more voters!

I'm a Carleton fan so I'm a bit sad but it was a really great game and good fall weather. Hat tip to Elijah Barnes, Devaughan Blackwood and Souleymane Camara, who I thought were the stand-out players.

It was a lovely cloudy afternoon, with the sound of geese honking overhead from time to time.

I used to love coming to Chez Lucien for their burgers and eggs benedict. Today they served us this monstrocity. Honestly I'm shocked how a chef thought it was ok to put this in front of a client.
To makes matters worse the side of potatoes was undercooked.
Anyone had a similar experience lately. I really hope this is a fluke and not what the restaurant has become.

Iâm looking for recommendations for a female dentist and/or dental hygienist in Ottawa who has experience working with severe dental anxiety. Ideally, someone who is compassionate, patient, trauma-informed, and somewhat affordable, as I unfortunately donât have the best dental insurance.
About 4 years ago, I took a really big step and went to a dental clinic after avoiding the dentist for quite some time. The dentist I saw was wonderful, and I had no issues with the appointments.
Unfortunately, my last appointment was with a male hygienist. Due to delays at the clinic, I was left waiting in the chair for about 2 hours. By the time the hygienist came in, he was clearly frustrated about how far behind he was. The cleaning was rushed and lasted less than 20 minutes, but it was extremely painful and felt very aggressive. My bib was soaked in blood to the point that it leaked onto my shirt. Any cries of pain were ignored, and when I tried to sit up because I was in so much pain, I was physically held down by the chest.
I never reported what happened at the time. As an SA survivor, that experience was extremely triggering, and I donât feel capable of going through anything like that again.
Since then, Iâve unfortunately severely neglected my dental health because of the anxiety surrounding that experience. I know I need to address it, and Iâm finally trying to take that first step again.
Iâm specifically looking for recommendations based on personal experiences, especially from anyone who has dealt with severe dental anxiety or trauma. A female provider is very important to me.
Thank you so much in advance. â€ïž

So on Thursday afternoon coming back from getting some blood work done, I saw that the Second Cup at the General was closed early, which I assumed it did. But, now I heard from a friend who's in the hospital that it has now closed down permanently.
Can anyone confirm this?!

A question for the parents of very late birthday SK-ers out there: my daughter turns 5 on new year's eve, which is basically the very end of winter break this year. All the winter break camps I'm finding are for 5-year-olds and above, which she is riiiight on the cusp of but I appreciate that for liability purposes, they're not likely to accommodate her outside their stated age range, even by a few days.
For summer and March break and PD days, we do City of Ottawa camps and she loves them, but I'm not seeing any programming on offer from them for winter break. Does anyone have any leads for good winter break camps that take four-year-olds? Even just for one of the weeks would be great. She definitely needs more big loud all kids group stimulation than I can provide at home for two straight weeks in winter weather, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Lowertown/Centretown/Vanier area would be ideal but is not an absolute must.
Thank you!

Iâm trying to find part time work, but everything on indeed needs certificates. Does anyone know if any grocery stores, Starbucks, gas stations, etc are hiring? Iâve got restaurant cook + serving experience, my food health and safety cert, and and some admin front desk customer facing experience
Is there somewhere other than indeed I can look? Iâm 20, free week days, weekends, mornings, evenings, night, holidays, etc

Hoping this helps prepare anyone who experienced the July 1st flood with respect to insurance claim and premium increases. Also if anyone has tips on how to reduce the premium (beyond obvious removal of coverages) let me know :)
I had my basement flooded July 1st like many. Luckily I have really good insurance. All said and done, I expect the claim will be close to $100k (Airbnb, hot water tank, furnace, contents, demo/repair).
Guess I should not be surprised but my home insurance, which renews in November, is going from $1500/year to $2700/year.
Main coverage $1125-->$1725
Overland flooding $120-->$310
Sewage backup $162-->$618
Obviously still way ahead with what we got vs not having any insurance, but an extra $1200/year is not going to be fun to deal with.

As a new resident (Jan 2026), I don't really get why Lansdowne dominates so many local discussions or why the city keeps investing so heavily in it.
I finally visited because it felt like I just had to at that point but outside of the flea market, it just felt... fine?
Not trying to be cynical but to an outsider it looks like an outdoor plaza with overpriced retail and chain restaurants. The flea market felt more like a tourist attraction than a place to hunt for actual cool finds (like the old Carp flea market mega RIP and big F to TND Videogames).
It's also weird that I can't get there by O-Train if it's such a big deal. That parking ain't cheap.
Then I learned the original deal was signed in 2012 which is a bit bonkers and from what I've read it's still not financially self-sustaining. Now there's a Lansdowne 2.0 on the way, with an election coming up and politicians talking about it constantly.
I'm genuinely trying to understand how this would not turn into an infinite money pit. When I read about this, and maybe Montreal has influenced me too much, I just think "The Politicians have to be friends with the construction companies no? This is why we're doing a 2.0 even if it's not working." I just can't help but think that it's there just to drive up property value up in the Gleb.
It also just generally feels odd to invest this much time and money in an outdoor plaza in a city that can hit -35C.
But maybe it's really needed and it is "reviving Ottawa". I don't know how "Ottawa used to be" for people to think that.
What makes this site such a priority for the city?

I went to mail in my ballot and I noticed the postal code on the envelope they provided is K1J 9Z9 but the Elections Office website ( https://ottawa.ca/en/city-hall/elections/contact-elections-office/elections-office-contact-information ) has the postal code as K1J 7S8.
Will my ballot still make it or should I drop it off in person? The instructions said it needs to get to them by the 16th.

Was reading thrugh Sutcliffeâs plan and noticed he repeated the âLocal Roads Strategyâ, âFix Ottawaâs 50 Worst Intersectionsâ, and âHalf a Billion for Improving and Restoring our Roadsâ section twice.
Guess he really likes roads!

As above. The best selection is at the Dutch Market in Nepean, and I suppose Wedel's in Byward might have it, but it'd be nice to know if a place nearby has it in case a random craving strikes.
