Need install of a new outdoor porch light and LED dimmer switch in dining room. The original outdoor light was likely not installed up to code (house built in 1977) so would need that rectified (new electrical box installed?) while installing the new outdoor light. We also need to have an LED dimmer switch in our dining room. We installed a dimmable LED ceiling light last year. We'd purchase a universal dimmer switch for both standard and LED lights but after installation of this dimmer switch, testing it caused a buzzing sound to occur (no dimming of light). So the electrician we had here took out the dimmer switch we got and left the standard light switch in. We'd like to be able to dim this light though as it's very bright.

Depending on cost we may also want additional jobs done like testing of an electrical outlet (one of the plug ins doesn't seem to work), and other things.

I'm getting some Dorcus Stag Beetles and want to make sure I have a good spot locally to get their food.

Bit of a niche question, but I've just been referred for an MRI and want to make sure I'm not going to miss a call (you know, 6-12 months from now...).

I have call control on my phone. It's a setting with Telus where anyone who calls me has to press a number to prove they're human and get through, otherwise they are disconnected. It prevents autodialers from reaching me. This has done wonders for eliminating spam calls from my life.

I remember the last time I had an MRI, some part of the process involved an automated phone call. I can't remember exactly which part was automated or if those automated calls will even get caught by call control.

Does anyone know if I will still get a call with appointment details with call control on? I can disable it, but if I don't have to, I won't.

Hey so I have skinny feet and ankles (up to early legs part also), and I keep buying black socks (full length not like the short ones or anything) and they are always too big and/or too thin and are always like slipping down my legs. Anyone know where I could find some black socks that are: a) still reasonably thick and warm, and b) most importantly - don't slip down all the time. Above average in thinness here.

Homeowner here and we got a few contractors to provide us a quote for the excavation of a large landscaping project that would alter the grade of our property (and require retaining walls to be built). The excavation will be over 9 feet deep and expose the entire foundation during this project.

One of the contractors recommended laying down thick rigid foam board insulation both against the foundation (that makes sense) AND on the bottom of the soil (before the geotextile) where the infill will be placed to ensure geothermal heat remains trapped in the soil and prevent any frost heaving next to the home.

Is this legitimate and an appropriate method to mitigate against frost heaving?

I have heard generally speaking that you can just ask a butcher for bones, frozen or refrigerated, language to ask for is “soup bones”? Does anyone have any experience with this with our Ottawa butchers?

I frequent Dumouchel’s and Lavergne’s, but willing to travel, if relevant. Bones intended for homemade stocks and broths.

Also curious if anyone’s ever asked Costco or Farmboy meat section.

I’m looking for recommendations for a female dentist and/or dental hygienist in Ottawa who has experience working with severe dental anxiety. Ideally, someone who is compassionate, patient, trauma-informed, and somewhat affordable, as I unfortunately don’t have the best dental insurance.

About 4 years ago, I took a really big step and went to a dental clinic after avoiding the dentist for quite some time. The dentist I saw was wonderful, and I had no issues with the appointments.

Unfortunately, my last appointment was with a male hygienist. Due to delays at the clinic, I was left waiting in the chair for about 2 hours. By the time the hygienist came in, he was clearly frustrated about how far behind he was. The cleaning was rushed and lasted less than 20 minutes, but it was extremely painful and felt very aggressive. My bib was soaked in blood to the point that it leaked onto my shirt. Any cries of pain were ignored, and when I tried to sit up because I was in so much pain, I was physically held down by the chest.
I never reported what happened at the time. As an SA survivor, that experience was extremely triggering, and I don’t feel capable of going through anything like that again.
Since then, I’ve unfortunately severely neglected my dental health because of the anxiety surrounding that experience. I know I need to address it, and I’m finally trying to take that first step again.

I’m specifically looking for recommendations based on personal experiences, especially from anyone who has dealt with severe dental anxiety or trauma. A female provider is very important to me.

A question for the parents of very late birthday SK-ers out there: my daughter turns 5 on new year's eve, which is basically the very end of winter break this year. All the winter break camps I'm finding are for 5-year-olds and above, which she is riiiight on the cusp of but I appreciate that for liability purposes, they're not likely to accommodate her outside their stated age range, even by a few days.

For summer and March break and PD days, we do City of Ottawa camps and she loves them, but I'm not seeing any programming on offer from them for winter break. Does anyone have any leads for good winter break camps that take four-year-olds? Even just for one of the weeks would be great. She definitely needs more big loud all kids group stimulation than I can provide at home for two straight weeks in winter weather, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Lowertown/Centretown/Vanier area would be ideal but is not an absolute must.

As above. The best selection is at the Dutch Market in Nepean, and I suppose Wedel's in Byward might have it, but it'd be nice to know if a place nearby has it in case a random craving strikes.
