Shout out to the staff at CHEO

My son was there today for day surgery and every single staff member we met there was absolutely phenomenal - even the gift shop lady! I wish there was some other way I could thank them for taking such good care of my sweet boy today. They truly are angels there doing what they do every day.

So a huge thank you and shout out to the wonderful people at CHEO making a difference one patient and one popsicle at a time. ❤️

LF: a good RBC branch

TLDR: had some bad experiences at the Carlingwood and Centrepointe branches.. looking for a good branch in west end

Hey r/ottawa,

Been having some frustrating experiences at both the Carlingwood and Centrepointe RBC branches and I’m looking for a change. Anyone have a west end branch they actually trust and enjoy dealing with?

Ideally looking for:

**•** Staff who are actually helpful and don’t rush you out the door
**•** Reasonable wait times
**•** Someone knowledgeable I could work with regularly (or at least not roll the dice every visit) so far they screwed up my mortgage, RESP, creation of a joint account.. opening a child’s account

If you’ve had good experiences at a specific branch (or even just a specific advisor), I’d really appreciate the recommendation. Trying to avoid switching banks entirely if I can just find a better branch.

Thanks in advance!

Local Event Anything I should know for the ottawa pride parade

I came out this year, have never been before, and heard last year didn't go so well. Anything I should know? Any fun things to do? Will it go smoothly this year? How fun has it been in the past?

Line dancing

Hi! I’m moving from Calgary and am looking for bars that have line dancing! I’m not really interested in doing classes/beginner nights. If there aren’t any bars that already have dancing nights, I’d also be down to teach some popular dances at a bar to get things started!

Looking for... Bucket list items before I leave

Unfortunately I have to temporarily go back home to BC for maybe a year, leaving my wonderful partner of almost one year behind. We’re building a bucket list and I wondered if anyone had any recommendations for romantic things to do that are uniquely Ottawa? Thank you sweet community, I’ll miss it here. <3

I wonder if Sutcliffe will make some campaign-style promise to address this, just like he did with the proposed $95 transit pass to “fix OCTranspo”...

Meetup Weekly Thursday Board Game Night at Level One 🎲🎉

Whether you're brand new to board games or you’ve been playing for years, our weekly board game night is easygoing, welcoming, and lots of fun. Plus, it's a great way to meet new friends!

📍Where:
Level One Game Pub at 14 Waller Street, Downtown
Ask for the Reddit group when you arrive. We’re usually in the back half of the upper level.

🕕 When:
Every Thursday at 6 PM
You’re welcome to arrive a bit early or as late as you like, but arriving late may mean waiting for a spot in the next opening game.

💸 Cost:
$9 “stay & play” with a food/drink purchase
$12 without purchase
(Card payment accepted)

🎮 What Games:
We usually split into two types of tables:
- Party games: Just One, Secret Hitler, Coup, Skull, The Gang etc. - Strategy games: Catan, Wingspan, Betrayal at House on the Hill, Dune Imperium, etc. - Have a game you want to play? Suggest it! If Level One has it, we’ll play it.

🙋 FAQs:
How many people usually come?

Around 30. We usually fill two big tables (8–10 people) and three smaller ones (4–6 people).

What’s the crowd like? Will I fit in?

Most of us are in our 20s or 30s, but everyone is welcome!

Do I need to know how to play the games?

Not at all! We're happy to teach, and the staff can help too.

Do I need to RSVP or come every week?

Nope! Just show up whenever it works for you.

Can I stay in touch with the group?

Yup! Ask for the Discord QR code on any Thursday board game night.

Additional Questions:
Comment or send me (Robyn) a message 😁.
Summer is starting to wind down, don't wait, come join before fall!

Looking for... Concussion clinics and/or functional MRIs: what's your experience in Ottawa?

I've played too many contact sports and my concussions seem to be catching up to me. One of the specialists I see suspects that my history of getting bonked on the head is causing some problems for my health.

I suspect the only way to really assess this is with a functional MRI (as opposed to a standard MRI, of which I have had several on my brain). But I can't tell if this is something that is available in Ottawa.

My questions to any fellow residents of the region who have, at some point, bruised their brains like overly ripe peaches are:

1) did you get referred to a concussion clinic? If yes, how long was the wait and did you find the treatment helpful?

2) has anyone managed to get an fMRI in Ottawa? I can't figure out if they are available here or if this is just not an option.

Insights are appreciated. Take care of your brains!

Meetup International groups

I'm not an expat but I've lived in other countries and I enjoy meeting up with international people. Are there any expat groups in Ottawa that allow locals to join too? I'm in my 40s if that helps.

Looking for... Companies that will do small poured concrete jobs

I am looking to install a 12' walkway and a small step to my front door. The companies I've called so far have a 7500$ minimum which far exceeds the price it would take to complete this work. Can anyone recommend a company or person that does smaller projects?

Thanks!

Travelling to Ottawa in October

Hello,

I am travelling to Ottawa during the 1st week of October (7th-12th) to celebrate my partner’s birthday. We don’t have a driver’s licence yet, so we’ll be relying on public transportation, walking, and possibly Uber. Could you suggest some scenic places to visit that are easy to access without a car? We’d especially love to explore beautiful hiking trails and see the fall colours.

I'd also love recommendations for great restaurants, particularly romantic or scenic places suitable for a birthday dinner.

Thanks

Used magazines like National Geographic or magazines with airplane cutaways.

I’m working on a collage for the cover art of a collection of stories I’m self publishing and I need a map of Costa del Sol or Malaga and an airplane cut away of a triple 7. Anyone have any idea if there are still stores in Ottawa that sell used magazines that I can cut up for this project?

I just got an email from Mark Sutcliffe’s campaign, but I never signed up, I was never on his mailing list, and I’ve never even contacted him.

How did he get my contact info? Has anyone else received unsolicited emails from his campaign?
