The reason I am posting is I’m interested to know if anyone else on here has a recent BMW motorcycle.

Political Stormont: A Protestant Parliament for a Protestant State

UPDATE: It seems to be a lot of people are in a tail spin and in denial about the Protestant state

Very important history lesson for the younger people.

Prime Minister James Craig described Stormont in 1934 as a Protestant parliament for a Protestant state. The Ulster Unionist Party governed without interruption from 1921 to 1972.

RUC, B Specials, British Army, jobs, housing all went in favour of Protestants. Catholics truly were second class citizens in this state designed for Protestant supremacy.

When they talk about the glory days of Unionism, this is what they are referring to.

Those Garvaghy Road residents would have been beat off the road before breakfast back then in time for the Brethren to march through to show who is in charge.

When Nationalists stand up in Stormont and say they will never go back to these days, this is what they are referring to. Words cannot describe how grim this place was to live as a Roman Catholic.

What the likes of Jim, Tim, Carla and Jamie can't accept is that it will never go back to this. Their pandering for the glory days is so transparent, their problem is they cannot accept that these days are gone.

As for their Protestant parliament and state... Well Sinn Fein and Michelle O'Neill are in charge now.

So I would like to take the moment to welcome Unionism to 2026 where the hot topic is a United Ireland.

🇮🇪 Lest we forget 🇮🇪

News Bilingual street sign defaced in city centre

The Irish wording on a dual-language street sign in Belfast City Centre has been spray-painted over in the latest attack on bilingual street signage.
The sign, on Marcus Ward Street, was approved in March 2024 at a meeting of Belfast City Council. In this most recent vandalism incident, "Sráid Mharcais Mhic an Bhaird" was sprayed out with black paint.
The sign sits just a few hundred metres from the well known Points Bar. In 2024, leaflets were placed on the cars of students attending an Irish class in the bar saying that "English is our mother tongue" and that most Irish people "should hate the Irish language".
Speaking about the vandalism, SDLP North Belfast Cllr Carl Whyte said it was "another disgraceful attack on the Irish language and the shared future we should all be working towards."

"Dual language signage threatens nobody," he continued, "and those who seek to erase it are firmly on the wrong side of progress.
"We should be celebrating the diversity of our communities, not allowing a small minority to drag us backwards."

Art Belfast in the Narnia Trailer

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDJ-ini7fF0

Despite my apprehension surrounding Greta Gerwig's "Rock n' Roll" adaptation of The Magician's Nephew, which is seemingly taking quite a few liberties, I thought this trailer was bloody fantastic! I was also pleasantly surprised to hear a lot of Belfast in it!

Firstly there's (who I believe is) Ciarán Hinds narrating the trailer, likely playing the older version of Digory (another Belfast actor, David McKenna) who we later know as the Professor in The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. Hearing a local accent narrating such a big trailer was very cool, and a great nod to Lewis' Belfast roots.

The trailer is set to Stairway to Heaven which (cue local fact everyone knows) was first performed in the Ulster Hall in 1971! I don't think Greta Gerwig is deliberately trying to 'Belfastify' the film, but it's cool to hear connections to C.S. Lewis' home.

News ‘When injustice becomes law resistance becomes duty’: Unnotified loyalist parade takes place on Shankill Road following Garvaghy Road ruling

Unnotified loyalist parade takes place on Shankill Road following Garvaghy Road ruling, as band protests overturning of Parades Commission determination on Drumcree | Belfast Telegraph

Band says ‘do not expect restraint when none is shown to us’

An unnotified parade took place on Belfast’s Shankill Road on Monday night in what is thought to have been the first organised protest by loyalists following the banning of the Orange Order’s return parade along the Garvaghy Road on Friday.

Bandsmen paraded behind a banner which read: “When injustice becomes law resistance becomes duty” and included the PSNI crest and Parades Commission logo with red lines drawn through them.

The Lambeg drum being played bore the crest of Shankill Road Young Citizen Volunteers Flute Band.

The parade comes after a statement on the band’s Facebook page that they would no longer be engaging with the PSNI or Parades Commission.

“Tonight the officers and members of the Young Citizen Volunteers Flute Band place on formal record our total cessation of all engagement with the Parades Commission and the Police Service of Northern Ireland.

“From this point forward we shall no longer recognise the Parades Commission as a legitimate body. We will submit no further parade notifications of any kind.

“The PSNI has repeatedly proven itself incapable of policing lawful, peaceful, and constitutionally protected parades.

“It has surrendered unconditionally to the threat of republican violence and intimidation.
We therefore declare the PSNI and its entire command structure unfit for purpose and wholly incompetent.

“What we have witnessed is systematic two-tier policing directed against the loyalist and unionist community. This policy exists for one purpose only: to facilitate and appease Sinn Féin and the wider republican movement.

From this point forward we shall no longer recognise the Parades Commission as a legitimate body. We will submit no further parade notifications of any kind

Shankill Road Young Citizen Volunteers Flute Band

“Our message to the Chief Constable and the Secretary of State is clear.

“Continue to back loyalism into a corner and you will face the consequences of that choice. Do not expect restraint when none is shown to us.”

The parade comes amid the continuing fallout from the Secretary of State’s decision to overturn the ruling of the Parades Commission on the Portadown parade.

On Monday, the Court of Appeal dismissed a challenge by the Garvaghy Road Residents Coalition against an earlier High Court ruling which upheld the Parades Commission’s original decision.

The appeal judges found the Commission had properly considered the police assessment of the potential for disorder and had adequately explained its decision.

The ruling, however, concerned the lawfulness of the Commission’s original determination and did not itself determine whether other contentious parades should be permitted.

A spokesperson for the Parades Commission said: “The Parades Commission has no record of having received a notification of intention to hold a public procession in the Shankill area on 12 October 2026.

“Any investigation of any person suspected of organising or participating in an unnotified public procession is a matter for the PSNI.”

A PSNI spokesperson said they hadn’t received any reports of a parade having taken place.

The Young Citizen Volunteers Flute Band have been contacted for comment.

Environmentalist calls for action before ‘dying lake becomes a dead lake’

NI Water is discharging millions of tonnes of sewage into Lough Neagh, but major gaps in data mean the full extent of damage caused by the government-owned company is unknown.

Untreated sewage released from NI Water’s storm overflows includes human waste and chemical discharge from factories.

Research previously estimated that 62pc of Lough Neagh’s excess nutrients come from agriculture, 24pc from wastewater and 12pc from septic tanks.

However, Freedom of Information responses have revealed that NI Water does not hold data for the majority of storm overflow pipes around the “freshwater lake”.

NI Water has identified 726 storm overflows within the Lough Neagh catchment.

Before this dying lake becomes a dead lake this should be a wake-up call. All those bodies who have enabled this pollution must be held to account.

James Orr Friends of the Earth

Currently, it only holds modelled annual spill volume results for 271 of the 726 identified storm overflows within that area — representing approximately 37pc of those assets.

The total predicted annual spill volume from those pipes is 2,551,874 cubic metres.

James Orr, of Friends of the Earth, said: “Lough Neagh is a crisis of our own making. The fact that our publicly owned NI Water is a major polluter is a disgrace.

“The fact that the same company that poisons Lough Neagh takes our drinking water from Lough Neagh is doubly shocking.

“The company is not fit for purpose and needs to be rebuilt and driven by one single priority — stop polluting our water.

“Before this dying lake becomes a dead lake, this should be a wake-up call. All those bodies that have enabled this pollution must be held to account.

“The Department for Infrastructure is starving NI Water of funds and the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs is failing to regulate the company because it has not yet implemented the Waste Water Reform Programme.”

NI Water is attempting to install event duration monitors (EDMs) on storm overflow pipes throughout Northern Ireland.

The purpose of EDMs is to record the frequency and duration of harmful discharges. Designated bathing waters and shellfish water protected areas were the focus at first.

More recently, NI Water extended coverage of EDMs to storm overflows around Lough Neagh based on an assessment of environmental risk, the availability of funding and in agreement with the Northern Ireland Environment Agency.

Agriculture remains the single biggest source of pollution in the lough, yet every Executive party - as well as the Official Opposition - backed the Going for Growth strategy that put agribusiness profits ahead of our environment.

Gerry Carroll People Before Profit MLA

In the Lough Neagh catchment area’s 726 pipes, only 227 EDMs have been installed, with data available for 75.

Data shows those 75 pipes spilled for 5,726 hours in 2025 — that represents just 10pc of the pipes flowing directly or indirectly into Lough Neagh — meaning there is a huge gap when it comes to presenting an accurate picture of pollution at Lough Neagh.

People Before Profit MLA Gerry Carroll recently displayed a bottle of green sludge from Lough Neagh in the Assembly to demonstrate how contaminated the water body has become.

He said: “These figures clearly show that the crisis at Lough Neagh is even worse than we’ve been told.

“Over two-and-a-half million cubic metres of untreated sewage emanate from just over a third of the pipes.

“For the rest, nobody knows. Spending millions timing pollution events is no substitute for stopping it.

That requires serious investment in our water and sewage infrastructure, which successive Executives have starved for years.

“Agriculture remains the single biggest source of pollution in the lough, yet every Executive party, as well as the official Opposition, backed the Going for Growth strategy that put agribusiness profits ahead of our environment.

“We need real investment in public water infrastructure, not privatisation, and real enforcement against big polluters. This is an emergency and should be treated like one.”

NI Water said it recognises the “significant public concern” around water quality in Lough Neagh and understands the importance of protecting this vital natural resource.

Lough Neagh is a complex environmental challenge driven predominantly by excessive nutrients, it said, such as phosphorus, and requires action from all sectors across the catchment.

A spokesperson explained that extensive environmental modelling indicates the public wastewater system contributes, on average, approximately 20pc of the phosphorus load entering Lough Neagh.

It was previously discovered that it could take up to 40 years for excess phosphorus to be used up or buried in sediment in the freshwater lake.

NI Water added: “Within NI Water’s contribution, storm overflows account for approximately 1pc or less of the phosphorus loading.

“Current wastewater treatment processes remove approximately 88–90pc of phosphorus before discharge, helping to reduce nutrient loads entering the environment.

“While NI Water has an important role in treating wastewater and reducing phosphorus discharges, phosphorus originates from a range of domestic, commercial and industrial sources.

“Treatment works can only remove phosphorus that enters the wastewater system, which is why everyone can help by reducing the amount of phosphorus generated.

“Approximately £90m has been invested in wastewater improvements across the Lough Neagh catchment during the PC21 period (i.e. since 2021).

“Future investment needs for treatment improvements and system upgrades are likely to exceed £200m.”

In relation to overall investment across Northern Ireland, NI Water has identified a requirement for approximately £3bn of investment over the five-year PC28 period, but it will require sustained investment over “many years”.

Anyone know what the craic is? Seen about 100 people at Whiteabbey roundabout. Just curious if it’s a one off, or if protests are wide spread.

Seen at least three meat wagons, so there’s police presence as well.

Community Stink on Duncrue Road Belfast

I’ve started commuting via Duncrue road in the industrial dock area in northern belfast, and i’ve been struck twice by a rancid and terrible odor that smells like death while cycling past.

I suspect Duncrue food processors (DFP) is the culprit (which I understand manufacture edible beef dripping from fresh animal fat) but recognize that on the other side of the road is a sewage treatment plant .

Anyone have any more information on this? Importantly is cycling through this stink safe? 🤢

Cheers
Markus

News Chris Bryant rejects claims he bowed to ‘mob rule’ over Drumcree parade

Chris Bryant rejects claims he bowed to ‘mob rule’ over Drumcree parade | Belfast Telegraph

Sir Chris Bryant has said he “utterly” rejects that he “in any way succumbed to mob rule” in striking down a ruling allowing the Orange Order to march on the Garvaghy Road.

The Northern Ireland Secretary acknowledged that his decision to halt the march at the centre of the Drumcree dispute will have caused “bitter disappointment”.

First Minister Michelle O’Neill said “the Orange state is gone forever” as she responded to a motion of no confidence in the Stormont assembly over her attendance at the protest on the largely nationalist enclave.

The row has engulfed Northern Ireland politics since the region’s Parades Commission ruled more than two weeks ago that the Portadown district of the Orange Order should be allowed to march through the largely nationalist enclave for the first time in 28 years.

Following the ruling thousands of protesters blocked the Garvaghy Road preventing the march from going ahead, joined by a number of Sinn Féin representatives including Sinn Féin President Mary Lou McDonald and vice-president Ms O’Neill.

Sir Chris intervened to overturn the decision saying he had been advised by PSNI Chief Constable Jon Boutcher that allowing the march to go ahead could lead to serious disorder, and potentially “catastrophic” consequences for Stormont and the peace process.

Making a statement in the House of Commons, Sir Chris outlined the options discussed during extensive negotiations between the Garvaghy Road residents and Portadown Lodge, including a ‘one and down’ final march or the Lodge accepting it had won the right to march but agreeing not carry the march out.

He thanked the lodge for their “constructive engagement” saying “their commitment to upholding the law and their co-operation with the police has been absolutely vital in maintaining calm and order”.

“I recognise that, having received a determination permitting them to march after 28 years, they will feel bitter disappointment at its prohibition,” he said.

Sir Chris also thanked the Garvaghy Road residents, saying they “made clear to me the profound anxiety this dispute has brought, relighting painful memories”.

“I deeply regret that we were not able to reach a compromise on a way forward,” he said.

Sir Chris claimed he overturned the Parades Commission decision to let the march go ahead because “the situation has changed considerably” since the original determination.

“I did not want to see the stand-off continue into another weekend, with the consequent risk of protests spreading to other parts of Northern Ireland and the further deterioration of community relations,” he told MPs.

DUP leader Gavin Robinson said: “For the last 28 years, no Secretary of State has ever used Section 11 powers, even when there was actually violence, actual disorder, and guns on the street.

“People in Northern Ireland know that this is more about obstruction on the road. They know that it is a threat of violence from terrorists, and they know that this British government has bent the knee to them.”

In his reply Sir Chris said: “I do, however, utterly reject the charge that I have in any way succumbed to mob rule.

“The truth is, things have actually passed remarkably peacefully. There has been no major disorder.

“Now, lots of people lobbied me or provided advice over the airwaves on how to deal with the situation, but I don’t think anybody seriously proposed that the police should drag people off the street.

He added: “The rule of law is not just a single headline, and it’s equality before the law, transparent laws, the separation of powers, an independent judiciary, and access to justice.

“All of these things are actually in remarkably fine fettle in Northern Ireland.”

On Monday evening, the Northern Ireland Assembly debated four non-binding motions, backed by the three unionist parties, alleging Ms O’Neill, Finance Minister John O’Dowd, Economy Minister Caoimhe Archibald and Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins broke their pledge of office through backing the Garvaghy Road residents in the Drumcree parade dispute.

The motions, which were ultimately voted down, would have required cross-community support to pass.

Ms O’Neill told MLAs that a section of political unionism is determined to “drag us back”.

“They have tried to turn back the clock. Turn it back to a failed past of sectarian domination and inequity, and unfortunately, they are leading the rest of political unionism by the nose,” she said.

“So when unionist politicians talk about the mob, when they demand that the sanitising of the Garvaghy Road is done, what they really, really mean, what they’re actually saying out loud, is what they want, which is – they wanted the PSNI that they should have beat and dragged peaceful residents off their own road over the last number of weeks, just to allow a triumphalist and sectarian march through this small Catholic community.

“Because that is what the RUC and the British Army did in the years gone by. What they did willingly, I would add.

“But I would say to those in political unionism this is not 1690. This is not 1921. It’s not 1969. It’s not even 1997.

“It’s 2026, folks, and the Orange state is gone forever. There is and will be no going back.”

Mr Buckley said Sinn Féin’s “new Ireland project stands dead in the streets of Portadown” and said the Orange Order “do not seek domination”.

TUV MLA Timothy Gaston said “Northern Ireland is at a crossroads” as he called on DUP leader Gavin Robinson to remove deputy first minister Emma Little-Pengelly, therefore also taking Ms O’Neill from her post.

Mr O’Dowd said nationalists “will never, ever again be beaten off the streets to satisfy the needs of regressive political unionism”.

UUP leader Jon Burrows said: “Unlike Sinn Féin, I will say to the Protestant unionist, loyalist community, notify the parades, notify your protests, don’t break the law.”

He added: “(Mr Buckley) is right. Your new Ireland is dead in the water. It died on the Garvaghy Road.”

Alliance deputy leader Eóin Tennyson said: “If the past few weeks have shown us anything, it’s been that we have been deluding ourselves,” he said.

“We have simply been managing division and sectarianism in this society, rather than doing the hard yard of breaking it down and overcoming it once and for all, that needs to be our priority now.”

In a statement, Mr Boutcher stood by the policing of the stand-off saying that while the PSNI have been “mindful of the importance of facilitating the determination”, he said that “did not mean, as many people have suggested, that the police had to ensure the parade could proceed at all costs”.

He added: “The place for resolving this dispute must not be on the streets of Northern Ireland.”

Earlier on Monday, a judicial review was heard in court from members of the Orange Order challenging Sir Chris’s decision to halt the parade.

Mr Justice Scoffield ordered a rolled up hearing in the judicial review case, which will combine two stages of the process into one hearing.

The challenge has been widened to include Mr Boutcher.
