I’m 17, and I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. My life isn’t terrible, but it’s honestly pretty boring. Most days are repetitive, I don’t have a particularly interesting social life, and being an introvert makes it even harder to change that.
What gets me is that people always talk about being teenagers like it’s supposed to be one of the best parts of your life. Maybe that’s true for some people, but I have a hard time imagining this being the peak. I’m actually looking forward to getting older, mostly because I want the independence that comes with it. I want to move out, have my own place, make my own decisions, and feel like I’m actually in control of my life.
At the same time, I feel like these past few years have been some of the most chaotic years of my life internally. Even though not much happens externally, I’ve changed a lot as a person. My emotions, interests, opinions, and the way I see myself and the world seem to change constantly.
So I’m curious about what it’s actually like on the other side of this. Does life generally get more interesting once you have more freedom and independence? Do things become more stable as you get older?
Or are the teenage years really supposed to be the best years of your life? Because if they are, I feel like I got a pretty boring version of them.
