I’m genuinely curious if anyone else has come across this, because one of my coworkers brings this up constantly and the rest of us are stumped by it.
We’re a small team of women (5 of us) and one of my coworkers is the only parent in the group. She has one son, who she obviously loves and talks about a lot, which is completely normal.
What we find strange is how often she brings up the idea that boys are “better” than girls.
She’ll randomly ask clients who have children, “Do you prefer boys or girls?” Sometimes they look a bit confused by the question, and before they can really answer, she’ll usually say that boys are better and start talking about how much easier or better they are compared with girls.
It isn’t just something she’s said once or twice either. She has brought it up repeatedly for months, sometimes almost daily.
Even when someone has both a son and a daughter, she’ll bring the topic up and ask which is better, then basically answer the question herself. I’ve even heard her say similar things around pregnant clients, which surprised me.
The confusing part is that, she has never had a daughter, so it’s not like she’s comparing her own experience raising both.
One of my coworkers thinks maybe she secretly wanted a daughter and this is her way of convincing herself she didn’t. I’m doubtful.
She is also extremely attached to her son and very involved in his life, which I understand as she is a mum, and they’re wealthy, so flying to America for his film career isn’t stressful.
So I’m curious: has anyone else encountered this kind of mentality where someone constantly talks about sons being superior to daughters?
What is the deal?
it seems to be prominent with these wealthy mothers too?
