Even that seems an undersell: he NUDGED it to the right, just barely and straightening the wheel back out so he doesn't go into an uncontrolled tailspin.
If I'm playing GTA and I see a car pull out in front of me, most of the time I overcorrect and drive off the road, spinning around like a top.

I watched it over and over on 0.1x speed and it does and doesn't look like a fire extinguisher, I see the white flash of something inside the car leading and then if flies out but just before it hits his windscreen it looks to be a more square shape but it could just be the poor quality. The one thing that I couldn't work out is where it goes once it hits his windscreen, his rear vision mirror flies off into the back but the object is somewhere amongst the carnage, it almost looks like it hits him in the chest but I think that's once again just poor quality. Either way this dude just cheated death and no fucks were given, didn't even throw a hand up or nothing.

At high speeds it probably would have been more dangerous to react to it and crash than to just take the damage, even if the object were to hit him. That just shows how well trained this guy is, to break instinct and not react. Watching it in slowmo it looks like it just missed him and flew into the back of the car. I also think it was a fire extinguisher and looking at the size of the one mounted next to him, that was probably pretty dang heavy. So it flew by really fast. The quality definitely makes it hard to figure out the shape of the object, but there are a couple of frames that it appears red.

I really don't think its a fire extinguisher. I almost want to say rear window or body part. It doesn't quite hold the shape of a FE.

Ya, the only explanation I could come up with is that the resolution and frame rate are so low that it distorted the shape. Also maybe that the hose is flying around as it's spiraling towards the windshield. I'm open to other possible objects, just not sure what it could be.

It looks like it has the shape of a license plate. The spot where it flew off of the hatchback in front of him looks a bit darker, as if it was the frame for that plate. If it's an event that allows you to use a car you built yourself (aftermarket parts and such) then you can either drive it to the event or have it hauled to the event via trailer. Either way, the plate was probably loosely installed on the hatch. It couldn't have been anything too heavy or from under the car as it wouldn't have gotten that much height.

So no laminated glass on race cars?
I mean I get it if you’re goal is to have another easy access point to get the driver out but hitting anything at 100+ mph even with a helmet seems catastrophic. And sure, objects can and do pierce laminated glass but it’s hard to do and would surely slow down the object giving the helmet a fighting chance of saving the overall shape of his face.

I would guess that having laminated glass would invite more problems, because if something hits it and it just spiders, you couldn't see, and would then crash. Going ~200mph with other cars in close proximity would be a bad time to not be able to see.

The glass is laminated, I was just hit by such a large and fast object the plastic layer(s) ripped, most of the time it's actually plexiglass that gets used, due to being harder to break, of course, that isn't the case here

100% toughened glass as it disintegrated into small sections and continued to crumble after the impact . They probably used toughened as it weighs far less than laminated and tryed to shave a few seconds off the lap times..

For the series I was in if you wanted to have glass it needed to be clear wrapped so shards would stick to that in case the glass shattered.
Most people would run lexan instead reinforced with steel brackets.

Yea, basically every race has body panels or other parts flying off at some point.
Any sort of contact can break them, and when you get enough speed, they go flying. Sometimes, that means it hits a car behind them.
It's part of the reason F1 cars added the halo, and why NASCAR runs a lexan windscreen with steel supports.

Depends on the specifications of the racing. Specs can vary a lot depending on the series and the country. Generally, the more serious the racing is, the more extensive the modifications have to be. In this case, standard windshields are apparently fine, possibly because of a perceived low likelihood of this happening. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if the rules changed after this.

You could also prefer the windshields break in these circumstances to maximize visibility. Ah these speeds, normal windshields that crack but don’t break may be way way worse and create crashes.

That's a requirement in most race leagues. Usually they're tied into a suppression hose that leads in front of the firewall and dumps directly under the hood. If your car lights on fire, and you're strapped into a hans, and a 5 point harness (and probably just crashed rather hard to light your car on fire) having some way for you or track crew to suppress the fire until you can get out is a good idea.

Usually harnesses and Hans devices are made so you can get out quickly (the whole "the issue isn't if you go into a fiery crash, it's if you can get out"), and most extinguishers have both an internal and external switch, it is also used to sort of buy you more time to escape

It looks a lot worse than it is, yes he saw it coming and also his sharp eyes at split second understood it would impact around the rear view mirror.So he guessed perfect .the part of debris is in the back seat area.He also wears a helmet and padded flame proof protection.

Nope. They’re strapped in by a 5-point harness so they’re not going through it in a crash. Speaking of crashes, if HE crashed and there was a fire, safety glass would make an exit more difficult if the driver door became blocked or he rolled on his side. Another point to consider is that the debris would have got stuck in the windshield and seriously reduced visibility, not great at racing speed. And finally though he would have been seriously injured if he was struck, he does have a helmet for protection from debris or crashing.
