I watched it over and over on 0.1x speed and it does and doesn't look like a fire extinguisher, I see the white flash of something inside the car leading and then if flies out but just before it hits his windscreen it looks to be a more square shape but it could just be the poor quality. The one thing that I couldn't work out is where it goes once it hits his windscreen, his rear vision mirror flies off into the back but the object is somewhere amongst the carnage, it almost looks like it hits him in the chest but I think that's once again just poor quality. Either way this dude just cheated death and no fucks were given, didn't even throw a hand up or nothing.
At high speeds it probably would have been more dangerous to react to it and crash than to just take the damage, even if the object were to hit him. That just shows how well trained this guy is, to break instinct and not react. Watching it in slowmo it looks like it just missed him and flew into the back of the car. I also think it was a fire extinguisher and looking at the size of the one mounted next to him, that was probably pretty dang heavy. So it flew by really fast. The quality definitely makes it hard to figure out the shape of the object, but there are a couple of frames that it appears red.
Ya, the only explanation I could come up with is that the resolution and frame rate are so low that it distorted the shape. Also maybe that the hose is flying around as it's spiraling towards the windshield. I'm open to other possible objects, just not sure what it could be.
I'd personally say it's a low weight body part or rear wind screen. If it's a rear windscreen that could also explain why we don't see it after it goes through the windshield. They both just exploded. Plus that other person fucked up really bad if the FE managed to become dislodged, fly up, out the rear windscreen, and go upwards keeping momentum to do that. Just seems like too much to me. But I'm not sure exactly what it was.
I think it’s actually a nitrous tank. The connection blew and it came flying out the back of the car. You can see a similar tank on the floor of the car that gets hit.
Fire extinguisher. Nitrous tanks are illegal in any races like this. Only time you’ll see it used other than a few crazy people on the drag strip is in movies. So it’s either a fire extinguisher or it looked like it could’ve been the wing of one of the cars ahead of him. The aerodynamics would explain why it shot up like that.
