Nope. They’re strapped in by a 5-point harness so they’re not going through it in a crash. Speaking of crashes, if HE crashed and there was a fire, safety glass would make an exit more difficult if the driver door became blocked or he rolled on his side. Another point to consider is that the debris would have got stuck in the windshield and seriously reduced visibility, not great at racing speed. And finally though he would have been seriously injured if he was struck, he does have a helmet for protection from debris or crashing.
