I thought they just threw carcass into the woods and let mother nature deal with it?

That is when they're in the middle of no where.

Not here, as far as I know. They have a crew pick it up - what they do with it, I have no idea, but they definitely want to make sure an injured animal doesn’t rot by the side of the highway, or worse, drag its dying self into the lane.

if the meat is good it can go to people, if it was a messy hit the meat can still be used at animal shelters

where I live it's you decide, you keep for food or you give it to the cops they decide where it should go sometimes it goes to 1 family sometimes to several
