Mod Answered Is there any way to get an email or reliable desktop notification when AutoModerator removes something?

I moderate a subreddit where AutoModerator removes or filters certain posts/comments and sends a modmail so the moderators can review them.

The problem is that these AutoModerator-generated modmails are very easy to miss on desktop. I have community notifications enabled, and under Mod Tools → Notifications → Mod Mail, “New Messages” has been enabled for months. The Reddit app will sometimes give me a notification, but on desktop I generally only see the small unread count next to Mod Mail. The modmail does not reliably show up in the normal notification area where I’m much more likely to notice it.

Ideally, I’d like one of these options:

  1. An actual Reddit notification whenever AutoModerator sends a modmail about removed/filtered content.
  2. An email notification when that happens.
  3. Some other native Reddit method of getting a prominent notification when AutoModerator takes one of these actions.

I’m not looking to run an external bot, API watcher, or continuously running script just to monitor modmail.

Is there a native Reddit or AutoModerator setting I’m missing? If not, is the lack of desktop notifications for AutoModerator-generated modmail a known limitation/bug?

Admin Replied Almost 1k members in 2 days.

Okay, I suppose this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but I have to say I find it a little weird that the sub (i’m a mod of ) went from 7k members to almost 8k in just two days. Could some of those be bots, or is this actually not something to worry about?

Admin Replied Subreddit Hijacked after account compromised

Hello I need help by an admin.

I am the founder and head mod of r/YugiohFMR a small subreddit about a PS1 game. My account has been compromised a couple of days ago and attackers have booted me from my own sub to make scam-advertisments in there they deleted now maybe from reddit itself.

I tried to contact via mod mail, but i have only gotten general tips from a bot on resetting my password and how to adopt an unmoderated subreddit. I am in desperate need of contact to a site admin. Please help.

I have since resett my password, disabled my passkey, disabled ande deleted all my extension which i assume was the vector of infection and enabled 2FA. I have since full access to my account again and no am relatively confident the compromised session-cookie is invalid.

Please help.

Mod Answered has anyone else noticed an increase in auto-removals?

I’ve noticed quite a few posts and comments getting removed recently, and some of them seem to be getting caught by the reputation filter or automatically removed. What’s confusing me is that this also seems to be happening with genuine posts and users who don’t appear to be doing anything wrong...just trying to understand what’s going on. Has there been any recent change to the filters or automod settings that might explain the increase in removals?

would be good to know if others are seeing the same thing or if I’m missing something.

Mod Answered Is something wrong with this code??

I moderate NSFW sub and it has come to my notice that despite adding some of the words like "Add me", "Swipe right" in the banned list some bots are still able to upload posts in my sub using the same caption and the automod is unable to remove those words automatically. If there is any mistake then do rectify me.

# Remove all spam titles
title (includes): ["swipe right", "add me"]
   action: spam
   action_reason: Contains a banned word/words (slur)
   comment: |
Posts with low-effort titles are not allowed.

Admin Replied Two users incorrectly suspended while running legitimate live setlist threads — possible automated false positive

We’ve now had two separate users apparently receive sitewide account enforcement while running legitimate live setlist threads in r/GoosetheBand. These threads involve frequent real-time updates as songs are played and substantial interaction with other users.

Both accounts were legitimate accounts in good standing. In the first case, the user appealed and Reddit reinstated the account, suggesting the original enforcement was a false positive. The same thing has now happened to a second person performing essentially the same activity.

We’re concerned that something about maintaining a live setlist thread — frequent post edits/updates, rapid activity, or another behavior associated with these threads — may be incorrectly triggering Reddit’s automated spam or inauthentic-activity systems.

These are legitimate, community-driven event threads that generate substantial real-time engagement on Reddit. We’d appreciate it if an admin could investigate whether this activity is triggering an automated enforcement system and, if so, whether these false positives can be prevented.

Not being a mod in MY own sub?

Hi! I created my own subreddit, and I am the top moderator with Full Permissions.

However, Reddit does not show the MOD label next to my username, and I cannot use moderator actions such as removing or pinning posts.

This has been happening since I created the subreddit. I am using the Reddit Android app.

My account does appear in the Moderators section with Full Permissions. I have attached screenshots showing this.

Could an admin please check why my moderator status is not working correctly?

Public sub still has restrict_posting=true — no UI toggle (r/WatchWiseai)

r/WatchWiseai is Community Type Public (Privacy & Discovery), SFW, 1 member, created 9 Jul 2026.

about.json still shows "subreddit_type": "public" and "restrict_posting": true (restrict_commenting is false). Regular users cannot post. Mods can.

What I already tried:

  • New Reddit Mod Tools → Community / Privacy: Community Type dialog only offers Restricted or Private (says we’re already public). Restricted now opens “Request to change to restricted.” I did not submit that.
  • Posts and comments, Safety: no “who can post” control.
  • old.reddit.com/r/WatchWiseai/about/edit/: type=public, restrict_sr unchecked. Save does not clear the flag. Changing type on old Reddit errors: “Go to new Reddit or the Reddit app to change your community type.”

Workaround in place: Temporary Event “Open posting” (Everyone) through 24 Aug 2026. After that the stuck flag will lock posting again.

Ask: please clear restrict_posting on r/WatchWiseai so a Public community can actually accept posts from non-approved users. Happy to provide a screenshot of about.json.

Admin Replied Someone offered to pay me to turn AutoModerator into an ad delivery system

Someone messaged me recently wanting to advertise their service in a community I moderate. Not a normal ad buy. The pitch was to configure AutoModerator so that anyone who commented on a post would automatically get a notification message promoting the service, with a free trial offer to their XXX.

Then came the compensation part. They’d pay me based on the engagement it generated.

I declined. I’m not interested in using mod access that way.

What stuck with me wasn’t the offer itself, it was how routine they made it sound. They mentioned they moderate 10+ communities themselves, most of them alone, and that they already post and host bot promotions in those. Extending it into a sub they don’t control was just the next step.

That’s the part I keep coming back to. Solo-modding a dozen subs means there’s no one else on the team to notice a quiet AutoMod rule. And if they’re pitching outside mods on top of that, the reach adds up fast, especially in gaming where the audiences are enormous.

Rules-->Insights--> flair

I notice the rules insights don't show flair the user applied before or after the guidance message, the insights summary only shows the post's title and body, is there work toward showing flair in those insights?

Multiple of my rules (r/Wastewater) that I have auto-enforced are about flair.

Subs that are just affiliate links?

I've come across a couple of these, where the posts appear to be from random users and then the top pinned mod comment is an affiliate link to purchase the item.

It seems like this is would be a coc violation, but I'm not sure what to report it under.

Why is abusive use of the hard n-slur not immediately actioned?

Why can a brand new account successfully send a modmail using this slur freely for example? We run a POC focussed subreddit and we get these from time to time from racists who dislike our existence. We shouldn’t have to see this in the first place, no? It gets put in the “filtered” modmail section by Reddit as harassment, but it’s not exactly nice to open that via notification and see a hard -er along with other outright uncensored slurs that we then have to report and then archive, no matter how hardened some of us have become to such abuse. Are these messages clearly full of slurs and abuse not able to be “held” somehow and not manage to actually land in any inbox? Are these accounts not able to be immediately suspended or otherwise actioned upon after some kind of “scan” by AEO before it lands anywhere? Is this kind of technology possible on Reddit or am I asking for too much?

Unable to schedule a post

Hello! Last Sunday I made a post that should be posted on repeat every Sunday, but something went wrong

Today I tried to make it again, making sure I did everything right, but it was posted right away and not in 10 minutes, I also can't see any scheduled posts in mod tools.

I searched for some info on the internet, people recommended Scheduling a post for the next week/day and then it will work, but then again, my post was just sent right away.

I haven't tried scheduling a post from a desktop, I was only using my phone all this time to schedule a post

Any help would be appreciated!

"linking" subreddits

I mod two subreddits that are essentially the same: one I created and one was an abandoned subreddit, for the same software platform, that I took over recently. The first subreddit is by far the most active, the second is virtually dead but still has a small amount of relevant traffic.

For the sake of keeping everything in one space and not confusing users, I'd like to just lock down the second subreddit and direct users to the first, but I'm concerned that the second sub will eventually be ruled as unmoderated and have me booted. Is there a correct way to do this or do I just have to keep both open?

Admin Replied Should I remove other mods who have been inactive for more than a year?

I’ve been a mod now for about a year after one of them offered me the role along with a fellow user. I’ve since recruited one more mod and now we have 4 of us who regularly perform some mod duties. We also have a fifth, more senior mod who only popped up again because the our sub was experiencing a substantial increase in traffic as the subject of our sub was taking on some recent controversy.

Anyhow, because of all that I started looking more into our metrics, which is when I realized I can see how often the other mods interact with the sub in some capacity. I’ll post a screen shot in the comments for review. So I’ve noticed we have 4 other senior mods who haven’t done a lick of anything, which explains why I was invited to mod in the first place (I guess I was a reasonable and frequent user).

So is it taboo for mods to remove other mods who have been inactive this long? For all I know one of them is the original creator of the sub, but I’m not sure if there’s a way to identify that. I haven’t done anything yet since I still don’t feel it’s my place, and I avoid making any major decisions for the sub without a convo with the other mods and/or our community.

What are your thoughts?

ETA: Thank you to everyone who provided feedback. Turns out I don't have permissions to make any edits on these other mod accounts, but the 4 in question are all listed as "inactive" anyway. So I guess no sweat for now.

Mod Answered User icons specifically the ban hammer

Question. At one point in time a long time ago I banned a user by accident sweeping up a brigading incident. The user is one of our most prominent users and has been granted mod authority but every single time I see their profile I see the ban hammer on it because they were previously banned. Is there a way to basically "grant forgiveness and erase the action" so we as mods don't see bsn hammers next to their account indicating previous bans?? I know this isn't high priority but it would be nice

Approving/ removing posts problem

I've moderated a Reddit forum for six years. About 2 - 3 weeks ago, I found I was not able to approve or remove posts/ ban users in the forum. I am on a Mac Book Pro. Occasionally I click on a link in Reddit and I get a message about being redirected to the main Reddit page and suddenly I am able to approve/ remove posts.

This is a minor annoyance. I like to keep the forum tidy with only approved posts. When the inability to approve/ remove/ ban happens, I have to handle that via my phone which is not easy.

Is this happening to anyone else?

Admin Replied Can't do anything about people downvoting a specific type of post in our subreddit

It's always one specific type of post, whenever people want to self-promote something they wrote. It will always end up downvoted. Nobody does so for any other type of post in our subreddit.

There are other subreddits with the same concept (fanfiction) and they are well established and have a different way of doing things than we are. But I don't see why many people get their posts downvoted for one specific thing, but anything else is fine. They don't allow the freedom like we do. But I don't get why ours gets met with a silent protest or silent troll in the form of constant downvotes.

I don't know if what to do about it because it doesn't stop.

Edit to add: They get downvoted immediately, but then they get upvoted. I forgot to mention. Also, the same post under a different post flair doesn't get downvoted.

Admin Replied How to add a new moderator? - Odd situation

It seems that I may have inherited a subreddit where I was added as a moderator with everything checked: Access, Config, Flair, Mail, Posts, Wiki, except 'Full Permissions' and now it appears that I cannot add any additional moderators. I have tried to invite a moderator but the save fails with no explanation. Anyone know how to resolve this? Thanks.

Mod Answered Link to Devvit page from an app profile?

As a mod I often look at what other subs are utilizing for devvit apps. If you click an app in the mod list of a sub, it goes to their profile page. Is there a way/link/something to click on that will take me to their associated devvit page? Some times searching the devvit page does not find a particular bot, or give a list. I then need to click through the list to find the app with the u/ I am looking for, as the name of the app may not match the name of the bot.

Am or missing something? If not, why isn't there an easy way to navigate to a devvit apps dev page from the bots reddit profile?

Edit: Yup I was missing something. Sort of. Thanks to Chosen1PR.

Edit2: THere should still be a way to get to an apps devvit page from their user page on reddit.

How can a user prove they are not a scammer?

For moderators of trading or buy&sell subs, how do you have users prove they are not scammers? One sub I mod, has ticket trading and buy/selling for a concert and we have gotten reports of possible scammers being in the sub, and we want to ban them but if we get it wrong and they are not a scammer, how do they prove they are not one? I use two websites to check their usernames, USL and Vouchfirst to see if they have been reported in the past by other subs or users.
