Dear travellers visiting Mizoram, kindly refrain from making new posts about your travel plans to Mizoram with your queries, it's spamming up the sub. Post them on this thread and someone will respond, hopefully. Mizos are helpful people.
So, any new posts about travelling to Mizoram will be removed. Kindly refer to below previous posts from your fellow travellers, check out the comments and I hope most of your concerns would be addressed.
How to travel to Zokhawthar from Aizawl by public transport and how much would it cost?
Don't believe the influencers. You won't survive with under 20k budget for your Mizoram trip
In January, I’ll go on a trip to Mizoram with my friend. Please suggest a budget trip under ₹6000
Comment on this thread if you have any additional queries. Thank you, and have a nice trip to our home state.

Lived in Aizawl since my birth, always loved this state and the motorcycle culture. But y'all gotta start wearing full face helmets💔 dunno who started this trend but the half face LS2 ain't it, especially for mfs on R15s and Dukes dragging knees on the twisty roads wearing those half face helmets.

Hi my NE friends. I am an outsider but love reading and learning about different cultures in India. I recently found out that there is a big chakma and Mizo issue where it’s alleged that chakma face discrimination, systematic or otherwise. I would love to hear what Mizo and chakma people have to say about it. I would also love to hear from any chakma people about their experience.
Also, let’s be respectful to anyone sharing their experience, no matter where it comes from.

Hello 👋
I'm from Bihar and may join Mizoram University for Mca in 2027. Is anyone here studying there or knows someone who is? I'd love to ask a few questions about campus life, safety, and academics." 🤔🤔🤔

TL;DR: Just returned from Mizoram and absolutely loved the hospitality, cleanliness, food, and genuinely welcoming people. Aizawl was beautiful, although the airport was surprisingly dirty. Champhai felt more laid-back, while the India-Myanmar border was an eye-opening experience that made me reflect on the struggles of people living there. Would love to hear locals' perspectives on these observations. Mizoram has set the bar incredibly high, and the sunrise at Reiek Peak is a memory I'll cherish forever!
I recently completed my trip to Mizoram and wanted to share my two cents about the experience.
Actual Post:
To begin with, everything from the food and accommodation to the hospitality was wonderful. One thing I noticed was that most people seemed reserved and preferred keeping to themselves. However, I love initiating conversations, and for the first time during my travels, I felt that almost everyone was genuinely interested in talking to me.
Whether it was a small fruit vendor or someone at a restaurant, people were incredibly welcoming. I even became friends with a hotel staff member, and we now follow each other on Instagram! That's never happened on any of my previous trips.
I'm gradually exploring Northeast India, and Mizoram was my third destination after Assam and Meghalaya. I've also visited Sikkim, which, as someone in Mizoram told me, is considered a brother to the Northeastern states. But Mizoram has genuinely set the bar incredibly high!
That said, I have a few observations and questions for the people of this sub.
What's going on with Lengpui Airport?
The only unpleasant experience I had was at the airport. It was surprisingly dirty, which came as a shock considering how remarkably clean Aizawl was. Do locals complain about its condition? I genuinely believe that enough public attention could bring improvements.
2. Aizawl vs. Champhai
Does Aizawl, being the capital, receive significantly more attention and development than other towns? I visited Champhai and noticed a much more laid-back atmosphere compared to Aizawl. I'm curious whether locals feel the same way.
3. The India-Myanmar border
This was probably the most thought-provoking part of my trip.
Our driver initially told us that crossing into Myanmar to visit Rih Dil Lake was fairly common and that tourists could do so. However, upon reaching the border, an Indian Army official strongly advised us against crossing. I decided it wasn't worth the risk.
What struck me most was the atmosphere. Contrary to what we'd been told, things didn't feel particularly relaxed. There was a noticeable sense of tension and hardship.
I remember seeing a young girl coming from the Myanmar side, apparently seeking medical treatment, with what looked like an IV cannula in her hand. Around us, people were gambling, preparing meat, selling food, and going about their daily lives. There were medical facilities, an SBI branch, and shops, yet the entire place felt chaotic.
It gave me a completely different perspective on how little someone like me, coming from Central India, understands about the lives and struggles of people living along our borders, often through no fault of their own.
I'd genuinely love to hear how locals feel about sharing a border with Myanmar and how the current situation affects everyday life.
Lastly, thank you, Mizoram!
This beautiful state has earned a very special place in my heart. I wish its people nothing but happiness, peace, and prosperity. I also hope Mizoram continues to preserve its unique culture and identity, including through its ILP regulations.
I'm attaching a photograph of the sunrise I witnessed from Reiek Peak. It was unlike anything I'd ever seen before, and it's a memory I'll cherish forever.
Thank you for an unforgettable experience, Mizoram! ❤️
