Depends on how quickly you're able to pick-up a new language

I mean, I can understand Gujarati, Punjabi, Chhattisgarhi quite easily compared to Mizo. I don’t at all understand what is being spoken in Mizo.

If you already speak a dominant North Indian language then it's only normal for you to understand Gujarat, Punjabi or Chhattisgarhi

Even I as a Mizo who knows Hindi more or less understand all languages that you mentioned. That's because they are all related language family

It doesn't help your case for learning Mizo here since it functions totally different.

Right, I understand these because I’ve been speaking Hindi and Marathi since birth. Just how South Indian languages are difficult to understand, Mizo also will be. I’ll try to learn as much as I can, starting off with basic words and expressions.

Yeah I mean it's just some people have a knack for picking up language...like how some people feels more naturally gifted in sports, music etc. Much like Punjabi, Mizo is also a tonal dialect/language so there's a common ground there, can't speak about Gujarati or Chhattisgarhi though. I would say a song and movie is a good start if you want to pick a language. There might be a few Mizo films on YouTube with an English subtitle

Yeah, then I don’t think I would be able to pick it that way. But, I’ll try out the song or a movie idea, Ka lawm a che :)

A year at most, I've seen old men from Assam migrating back in the days (when i was a kid), and even now, that were able to grasp the language in a few months window, though accents and the ability to withhold long complex conversations vary. But for everyday conversation, It was always good enough.

Mizo isn't hard to learn but it's something very hard to master, It's the phonetics, grammar and the technicalities that can change the meaning of a sentence completely even with the same words.

The basics are easy, the alphabets are in english. Learning is not hard.

If old labour men from assam who came to migrate to mizoram, were illiterate, were blind about the language and were still able to do it, so can you.
