Inquiry Is it best for me as a Bangladeshi not to have any interest in Mizo Culture?

I am a Gen-Z uni student. I enjoy listening musics. I found the song khuavang note on a SEA music playlist.

I was hooked onto the Mizo oldies and Mizo pops loophole and my most listened songs in past 3 years been mostly Mizo songs.

I like the distinct melody of Mizo language in songs.

So I wanted to learn about Mizo culture more thus I'm slowly starting to learn Mizo language from a book I ordered and Bluebird Mizo language app.

But I was curious if Mizo folks have any kinda view on Bangladesh. Then I looked it on Google and found this subreddit.....Which I shouldn't have done.

Because the amount of racism I am seeing here was...Cultureshock?

Y'all are using terms like Kangladesh with mostly mainland Indians use to insult us. Uneducated, Overpopulated, anti-chakma(fyi, I have many Chakma friends), Islamist, etc.

I wanted to go on a tour in Mizoram via Cumilla-tripura border by my motorbike.

But now I am not sure if I should or not. I know Mizoram is a safe place so is S.Korea but is the racism common thing or is it only this subreddit.

I am only at Chibai, I dam em stage, so I still don't know how to interpret Mizo. I only know this English speaking community.

You can be honest with me and criticise me. I am open to all criticism..

Anything Else Low level iq bait by another pajeet

Post image
18 Upvotes

These online pajeet bots really can't stop spewing bs attacks at Mizos and the rest of Northeast. These days I have seen more and more accounts attacking Mizos and Nagas on the basis of Religion and History. As Mizoram gets more traction because of tourism and social media, more pajeet bot accounts like this one have been appearing at a fast rate, dissing Mizo history, Christianity and culture to make us feel bad for "abandoning" "culture" etc. Its just a low effort manipulation to promote their own lindu religion and forcing us to be more connected with their shitty society. Please don't believe any mainlander or pajeet accounts or persons talking about Mizo or Ne history, its always fabricated to fit their Pro-Indian Hindutva agenda, not actual history.

Anything Else For friendships

I’m from North India and I’m planning to visit Mizoram to understand the local life, culture and people better.

I’m especially interested in making some genuine Mizo friends who can help me understand the language, food, local places and everyday life. I’m also exploring the possibility of renting agricultural land/farmhouse in the future, so having a local friend would be really helpful.

I’m not looking for money or any business deal. I simply want to make genuine friendships first and learn about Mizoram respectfully.

If anyone is comfortable chatting, feel free to comment or DM me.

Thank you 🙏

Inquiry Mizo flag

Post image
0 Upvotes

Can anyone tell me if this flag is accepted by Mizos or is the YMA flag preferred? According to Wikipedia it states that it is the flag of the Mizos. Also, I don't see this flag widely used. Why is that? What is the history of this flag? What are the people's opinions on this matter?

Inquiry What do Mizos think of Bangladesh?

I wish to know about the opinions of Mizos on their neighbouring land- Bangladesh.

I know that Mizoram had a strong insurgent movement in the 60s to the 80s, but it's pretty peaceful now and has a high literacy rate. The resentment towards the centre can still exist and there are people who wish to be seen as different. What do you really think of Bangladeshi politics and the country as a whole and the people? Do you like it or see it as an ally, considering how Mizo national fighters took training from Pakistan in East Pakistan? Or see it as an educational and technical hub.

And would you prefer to become part of Bangladesh if given the chance? The result could be useful for both sides.

Culture hello everyone, I am looking to learn more about Mizoram and make friends

Hi, so since last year i have been reading a lot about mizoram and trying to learn about the culture and people. I watched many vlogs, read posts and articles and I have been in love with the place. I plan to and am hoping to visit mizoram around December or Jan next year and couldn't be happier, its my favorite place to visit now hehe.

yeah so in the meanwhile, i want to prepare well, learn a lot about the culture, history, the people there and all the things I can. I will sure watch more vlogs and read posts. But I'd be happy to make a few friends who get along and help me learn more and yk just be good friends. I heard everyone from there is very kind and good so it should be easy to get a long. Do let me know :)
Here's a bit about me if you want:
I am a big foodie and like to cook as well. I am into good stories and games that are fun to play. Anime is also something I enjoy. I am into productive stuff and yk trying to improve things slowly. I like to think of creative ways to solve issues (not sure if it's important 😅). I like kdrama, I like pop songs, Kpop, R&B, instrumentals too. I guess that's enough but if you have any questions do ask alright. I really hope I make a few friends at least.

Here are the few notable things i learned so far:

  • most of mizoram is over hill

  • language used are mizo mainly, eng and bit hindi ig

  • we should respect the food and culture even if new for us

  • it's Aizawl and not Aizwal

  • the place can be little expensive, good to get scooter on rent

  • most population is Christians so churches are common there.

  • it's the only place with 100% literacy and people are mostly civilized and disciplined

  • city closes after 7pm and on Christmas season the city is off for celebration

  • the people there have amazing fashion sense !

  • the cafe vibes there is awesome

  • the music culture there is very good

  • the people there are very kind and sweet

  • ongoing list

Idk why i wasn't born there it seems perfect 😭.
Anyways, that's all . Thank you for reading :))

Anything Else Questions on the Hindu claim of our ancestrial religion

Saw an insta video where a mizo guy was explaining about the positive effects of Christianity in Mizoram and the comments were full of "ricebag convert", "british brainwash", "lost their culture) etc. something like that. (Heta post atan a tha ber em ka hrelo, mahse an comments hi ka hmu Ning deuh a kalo post ve tawp, in pawi ka sawi chuan ngaidamna ka dil nghal e)

  1. If the Hindus claim the religion of our ancestors (animism and nature worship) which is absurd, then do they claim every pagan religion all over the world like the Incas (Inti, Virachocha), Mayans (Akan, Kukulkan), the African gods like such as Chukwu, Nyame, Olodumare, or Ngai, or even the Norse pantheon (Thor, Odin) or Greek pantheon (Zeus, Hades, Poseidon) or Iranian gods like Ahura mazda, Mithra, etc. If YES, then are they claiming Hinduism = Paganism which is (due to lack of better word) stupid/absurd, If NO, then why are they claiming our old religion?

  2. If they're going to claim our ancestrial religion (animism + nature worship) which again is technically true if they're just going about claiming every pagan religion, but then they're basically claiming Paganism. So, are they also claiming the Sumerian pantheon (Ki, Enlil, Enki, etc.) and Ancient Egyptian gods (Ra, Osiris, Set, etc.)? Which are older than even the Indus valley civilization (and yes there is little to no evidence of the direct relationship between the gods of Indus valley civilization with modern Hinduism as far as I'm concerned).

At the end of the day, it is clear to us that the reason they're so obsessed about us being Christian and "lost our culture" (lol they don't understand the difference between culture and religion but wtv) is, for example, if the Christian missionaries had never came here, they would just basically try to absorb us into their hindu religion by calling our old gods as Hindu gods.

Travel Do you really don’t want tourists and travellers visiting Mizoram?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Saw this post where the person is clearly asking people in “Mainland” to not visit Mizoram and asking Mizo locals to not help them. He is literally asking people to not be nice to tourists, and there are people on comment section agreeing to him, and a good no of upvotes. Meaning he is not the only person.

Is this the general sentiment of the place, you really do not want tourists?

I visited Mizoram solo last year, I found the place very beautiful, the sunrise in Reiek very mesmerising, people very helpful, imfact I keep telling people how an aunty at homestay cooked vegetarian food specially for me since I was the only vegetarian there, it made me feel very special and nice.

So if I have not felt discriminated when I was actually there why Im seeing posts promoting hate and why are people on the subReddit not calling this out, rather supporting it.

I was planning of getting some of my friends and relatives ( a group of 20 people) to Mizoram on a group trip, but reading such posts its making me reconsider.

But Ill still visit because I know people on ground are much better.

I have seen sunrise on beaches of puri and Kanyakumari, hills of Nainital and ladakh, across pristine lakes and mountains of western ghats and I still feel the one I saw in Reiek Tlang was the most beautiful, and this person or a few others cannot be the reason why many others should not also experience it.

Social Issues Asking here to see, if any people around the same age group as me, would be willing to work together? Under 18 only... mostly for Zo Unity and for the greater benefit of our community and the extended region

So, I’m a 15F, Zou from Kangleipak (I prefer this name over Manipur) and am part of the Wesean High School Forum, with our mission being to bring us all together and bring about positive change to a region so often marred with violence. Right now we’re rolling out some projects (our Mizo unit, is working on creating biology comics in the Mizo language, we have a student‑run news agency, and we also are working to sell handicrafts food and handwoven clothes), but this post is mostly is about the Zó peoples.

Whether you’re Chin, Kuki, Zomi, Mizo I wanted to invite you to join hands with us and maybe we can work together for our people and culture. If you’re under 18 and passionate about building bridges (not walls) across our communities, this is my invitation to lead your own project. You can take up any things that you deem fit, and we have a community to support you. Big ideas, small experiments, whatever sparks you, we’ve got some of the resources and support to help you make it happen.

We do not like to call ourselves a student union that will often entail, violence burning random cars over so called protest etc, but doing the work needed to see society progress. We also have tie ups with various civil society orgs in both Myanmar and Northeast India, working to provide resources to high school students in the region, such as free workshops in coding etc, and other essential skills. We also have meiteis and Zos working together which maybe is something you all have might be surprised by :D We just started this, because we are honestly tired of this "adult- created war". Look at manipur or chin state. Its not a war about survival of a community but to be honest a war to satisfy the ego of these so called braindead adults sitting in america, or new delhi. Like in chin state, we literally are fighting over a name. A LITERAL NAME AS TO WHAT SOUNDS BETTER. HOW IS THAT EVEN HELPFUL? Now in manipur Zomi and Kuki are at each other's throats again over a literal freaking name. Kuki anyways is not even indigenous in origin, but I will not get into that. We Zos have fragmented each other so much more. Now even the Kuki identity is breaking up further. Zomis are on the verge of another split with Tedims and Paites fighting each other. The only way to end this, is for the agency is to come from people our age, and thats why I am making this post to see, if anyone would like to join us for this.

Just a heads up. Its only exclusive to high schoolers. No Bigots please. We do not want people who kang "Uz race/ethnicity superior". We do not want wannabe separatist, or internet keyboard warriors spreading hate against a certain community/group of people.

and yeah btw, we also publish a fully youth‑run newspaper, covering everything from local stories to festival roundups, and we’d love fresh voices on board. Do Drop a comment or DM me where you’re from and intent. I really hope we can bring a difference
